New guy with a few P90x questions

Just not enough in the tank. I finish level one drill every time, but barely and jump back in for the in and out ab jumps after the 30 second mini-break. If it was a standing or jumping move, I'd be able to go thru the motions and get it done, but facing the ground jumping back and forth is not something you can do part way.

Never heard of this. Can you explain? I see on wikipedia it says consuming nothing but water for 48 hours?

Read the Paleo eating topic. And OneBuckeye, big time congrats to you! I am seeing the light as I enter my last week of Insanity. Good luck in your next round of whatever you and your fasting.

Speaking of fasting, how do you guys do it? I love my yogurt w/ granola, cottage cheese, eggs, nuts, etc. wayyy too much just to stop eating lol.

What did you guys do after you were finished with Insanity? I feel like the workouts from the 1st month will be a cake walk after finishing the 2nd month. I think I might do two months of month two workouts.
  • birddog23
    Im doing Asylum...looks pretty badass
  • Sonofanump
Crap, your all badass. I am still on the first level of insanity and can not progress to the max portion yet. Of course Insanity makes P90X plyo look like a nice evening jog and P90X plyo makes P90X kenpo look like a nice summers walk in the park.

I have been doing BR's hybrid p90x/insanity work out he posted. I am only doing the max insanity work outs. Birdog said he is doing aslyum, but it just seems more geared toward performance, than getting fit. It would be great if i was still competing at a high level, but I don't need to worry about performance as much as I used to. I will wait to see what people say about aslyum before i look into that. For now, BR's hybrid schedule works out great. I sometimes throw in a job/treadmill run in there just to keep confusing my body.

Just keep trying to push through it, you will get there. Once you get that mental toughness, you will be able to do it.

Look under "most popular" in the link below. I can only do the 16/8 on weekends. Otherwise, throughout the week, I will eat at 4:30am and then fast through the day only drinking green tea (iced). I get home from work at 5:30pm, drink some Purple Wraath (BCAA's), Yohimbine HCL & Jack3D. I train on this and eat at about 7pm. Not ideal but sufficient...

Mixed in a P90X based chest abck and legs tonight, maybe it will help with completing the ski abs.

Ok BR, got some questions for you. What does your normal day look like with when and what eat, your workout time, and how long you fast for? Im interested in this and may give it a go when I start Asylum.

I eat Paleo (higher fat content) so this may be a little different.

I eat breakfast at about 4:30am which usually consists of 3 whole eggs cooked in coconut oil with 4 strips of bacon (bought a half a pig from a local farmer) and a Jay Robb whey shake (2 scoops) with a cup of coconut milk, 3 tsps unsweetened shredded coconut & ice. I then fast.

I get home at 5:15pm, drink glasses of Purple Wraath (BCAA's) & Jack3D with Yohimbine HCL. This is to prevent muscle wasting while working out in the fasted state.

After the workout I eat usually a pound of chicken, grassfed beef, salmon, turkey or some kind of pork along with a salad of kale, lettuce, various peppers, EVOO & red wine vinegar. For "dessert" with this meal I make a casein dessert made of 2 scoops ON's peanut butter/chocolate casein with a cup of coconut milk, shredded coconut & some water. Why I say "dessert" is that this was supposed to be a shake but it's actually a pudding. So think you have to eat it with a spoon. This meal usually occurs around 7-7:30pm. After that I'm done until morning.

The problem I've had with this is calories. The first meal is about 700 cals while the second is usually 1000-1100. So I'm not taking in nearly enough. If you read the LeanGains site, the "6 small meals, every 2-3 hours" mode of thinking has kind of been debunked. Three meals in an 8 hour window is sufficient. Unfortunately, with my work schedule, it doesn't work out where I can get that 3rd meal. My carbs are usually under 50g's per day.

Say if I worked out at 7am, what would my schedule look like? Can you fast during different periods?

You would have to quit eating at roughly 4-5pm the day before.

You can do various fasts. Some people split up the fast with a small protein shake (20g's) while others will just fast from lunch until their workout. If you finished eating at 7pm and didn't eat until about 8:30am, after your 7am workout, that would be a decent (13.5 hour) fast.

I-Power: still no moving pushups or one leg tris. I'll try to work in a P90X shoulder and arms tonight.

I think this is one of the worst exercises in the program.

Not a fan, at all, of where they position it (sequence) with the other exercises.

Overall i wasn't a big fan of the tricep workouts in the program

I actually like the tri sequence except for the flip grips which I feel does nothing for me. I've always been a fan of chair dips and the lying tri extensions.

the problem with chair dips is you need to do a shit ton of them to feel it. I don't think the flip grip and kick backs are that effective. I think the skull crushers and two handed over head extensions are the best for triceps, that and diamond push ups. But overall i think the tricep workouts are a little weak

Not if you put a couple hundred pounds of plates in your lap and do them between benches. ;)

Well yeah ha I have the boflex weights, i'm not about to put those on my lap and have them fall and break. But definitely need to add weight for chair dips.

Get a regular 45 lb Olympic plate, lay it in your lap, and then put a Bowflex DB on that. It shouldn't slip off. I was doing that with my Power Blocks.
