New guy with a few P90x questions
-
pinstriperAny tips for a new guy starting P90x?
I played baseball in college, that was 10 years ago. I've gone on and off working out for the last ten years, it's been 2 now since I've really done anything, so this is great...I'm almost done with week 2.
Right now I'm 5'10" and 165. I'd like to maintain that weight through 1 round until I can get my Body Fat % down under 12% (it's around 19% right now)....obviously slight lovehandles and a little "loose in the cage" as they like to say. I just want to get fit again, and these workouts are very challenging, but doable. I plan on going through a round 2, modified to gain mass though.
Any tips for knocking down the body fat %??? The diet is no problem for me, i am following the portion plan. My day usually goes as follows:
Eggs white and fuit for breakfast
Protein shake w/skim milk and some carrots for a snack
Chicken breast or something similar with carb and veggies for lunch
Workout arnd 2/3pm with protein shake afterwards
Salad w/chicken or tuna or something for dinner and glass a skim milk
Any suggestions? -

Just stick with it. It will work if you keep at it. -
SonofanumpInsanity Cardio Power & Resistance attempted. The warmup is harder than P90X Plyo. I skipped one leg tris, second set of moving pushups and then the whole third set of the second routine from 7:15 to the final 8/8 squat pushups. Pretty happy with that and looking forward to doing better next time.
Karen, BR, LT: Tomorrow I am Tri training (swim 1m, bike 16m, run 2m). I will be able to fit a workout in Saturday morning. From being able to do about ¾ of the first two workouts, should I do Cardio Recovery or Pure Cardio? Also is Cardio Core & balance yoga based? Love this new challenge. -
like_thatGot done with Max Cardio for insanity. As Shaun T says, "that shit is bananas yo!"

karen lotzI would probably go with the Cardio Recovery instead of Pure Cardio. I think someone already mentioned it but its basically the Cardio workout on steraroids meaning there aren't the 30 second breaks. Maybe after you get into it a few weeks you can try the Pure Cardio, but I'd try to ease into it a little bit.
-
karen lotzAlso, from what I remember the Cardio Core and Balance isn't yoga based really. There might be a few moves mixed in but its mostly things like planks where you "crawl" side to side and then different kinds of leg lifts/jumps where you really engage the core.

I never did P90X cardio, always did Plyo. I was going to follow your excel sheet for the first two weeks until I complete the workouts in full then add P90x weight training, then progress into the max workouts. I had a visa gift card to sent you for the dvds & shipping, hope to find it and sent it to you in a week. Thanks. -
SonofanumpInsanity Cardio Recovery done. Kinda a core/ab based yoga stretch.
I previewed Pure Cardio, it does not look much different than Plyo. -

WRONG! It's a slight difference yet a BIG difference. That 30 second water break in Plyo means A LOT.
Speaking of which, I finished up Insanity Pure Cardio this morning. Yesterday was an intense Crossfit-type chest/back workout with ARX.
Hit Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and a Border's yesterday up in Cleveland. Got some nice grassfed beef, bacon, pastured Irish butter, coconut oil/milk/flour, some macadamia nuts along with Pavel' kettelbell book. My Power Block adjustable kettelbell should arrive, hopefully, by the end of this week. I'll be doing kettlebell work for my third weight workout of the week. -
KR1245Insanity arrived yesterday. Fit test tomorrow and then the fun begins on Tuesday
-
justincredibleI finished up week 1 of Insanity yesterday. I'm actually going to put in the effort to finish the entire program this time.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I am going stay on insanity but I need my swim and yoga. I think Power is enough weight bearing for my goals.
SUN-Fit Test or Treadmill Run
MON-Plyo
TUE-Power
WED-Cardio
THR-Yoga then Recovery
FRI-Triathalon swim, bike & run
SAT-Rest, Pilates or P90X Core -

My wife and I think Shaun T is a gay because he says things like that. Not that there's anything wrong with that. -

I thought I was the only one thinking that. His voice kinda does sound gay. It seems like he is trying really hard to sound masculine. -
BR1986FBShaun T was actually in Columbus over the weekend (I believe) for some kind of Beachbody group thing.
-
like_thatI wonder if the beachbody crew will show up to the arnold classic at the beginning of march.

Not sure. I know my coach (Swarm) attends meetings with Tony Horton, Shaun T & Chalene Johnson all of the time. He's also done a few of the QVC TV spots with Tony. They seem to usually have their own yearly summit. Have never gone. Not really interested in it either. -
SonofanumpSecond attempt at Insantiy Plyo; This time made it to 8:40 left skipping two sets of ski abs before stopping to walk around to get my heart rate back to reasonable. Jumped back in at 5:40 for the final cardio. Very happy with the improvement. I use the 2x2 x half inch form mats that are connected, during the 4 pushup level one, I kept ripping them apart with my jumping forward. Gotta figure that out.
Also, thanks guys for the Shaun T comments earlier, I thought about that when he does the power squats and shows the form from the rear. And I heard his lisp more frequently this time around. -

Does Swarm still live in Ohio? -

Pretty sure he's still in Bellevue. He still coaches football to my knowledge. -

I've been shopping around and the ideal, if you can find it, is a piece of HS wrestling mat. That thick foam would be perfect for jumping on (knee impact) and should stay in place. Shaun T uses it in the Fast & Furious dvd. Finding it cheap is the issue.
Burned 720 calories doing 43 minutes of "Crossfit circuit (cleans, squat, deadlift, lunge) w/P90X Abs/Core+"
Much rather burn 500+ calories in 25 minutes lifting heavy than doing cardio....NICE! -
SonofanumpSecond attempt at Insanity Cardio Power & Resistance. I did half of one leg tris both times and skipped both sets of moving pushups. Satisfied with the improvement from the first time. Torn the hell out of my mats again doing plank runs and 8/8 squat to pushups. Looked up wrestling mats on line, they want $315 for a 10x10 section, I’ll figure something out. Peace out yo. Still need to get a heart rate monitor and pay the shipping on the purchase.

I'm telling ya, try Ebay or Amazon. You'll get it cheaper and likely with no shipping.
I did Insanity Fast & Furious at 4:15am this morning burning 333 calories in 23 minutes.
Hamstrings hurt like a mofo after last nights heavy lunges. -
OneBuckeyeI burned 950 in an hour in p90x plyo on sunday night. Also did biceps and back for the first time yesterday. My biceps were shot by the end of the workout. I am not looking forward to doing more pull ups tomorrow.

Not sure how many forums you post on, but try posting on the wrestling forum here, and any other websites. A lot of people are willing to sell pieces of old mats. I got 2 10X10 mats $20 a piece by purchasing it off somebody on a forum.
