We had about 250 guests, had the reception at the church that we got married in, had family make the food, etc.

TiernanNobody has asked whether the wedding will have a Cleveland feel to it...fat polish bridesmaids & Strohs beer?

What don't you understand about some people will spend more on weddings than you would like?MontyBrunswick;1743876 wrote:It's not extravagant, but it's money that could be pulled into something else/saved/invested/etc.
I mean seriously, fuck directly off on this thread. You sound like a poor grandpa. Stop. -

It's you who is "mad" that other people have more money to spend on things than you. And your anger is making you sound pathetic.MontyBrunswick;1743920 wrote:lol, someone's mad.

I was reinforcing the point that someone else had made. I'm not sure how you articulated that as anger.SportsAndLady;1743921 wrote:It's you who is "mad" that other people have more money to spend on things than you. And your anger is making you sound pathetic.

friendfromlowryPerhaps it's because I'm a guy and I don't give a shit about weddings, but I'd theorize that guests ultimately won't care whether you spend $5,000 or $50,000 as long as there's free alcohol and you minimize the waiting/driving they have to do.
Actually, you could make the wedding a hit or a dud solely based on food and drink. I don't care if every bridesmaid gives a speech recalling their lame stories from high school, if it was during dinner. I wouldn't care if there was a two hour window inbetween the ceremony and reception, if there were finger foods and the bar was open. When you make hungry/sober guests wait, that's what will ruin a wedding. -
sleeperWould anyone here honestly hang out with OSH? He sounds boring and lame.
No kids at weddings is the best way to handle it. Infants are about the only "Okay" wedding guests because they will probably just sleep the whole time. -

OSH would not be a fun guy to hang out with. Probably drinks 2 michelob ultras and calls a cab.sleeper;1743970 wrote:Would anyone here honestly hang out with OSH? He sounds boring and lame.

This. My biggest complaint on weddings is where the service is compared to the reception, as well as time in between. Have been to numerous weddings where the ceremony was at 2, then reception at 6. What are you supposed to do for 4 hours. And if it is 30 minutes from your hometown or you are from out of town, do you go home, go to a bar? It is dumb.friendfromlowry;1743933 wrote:I wouldn't care if there was a two hour window inbetween the ceremony and reception, if there were finger foods and the bar was open. We had our wedding and reception at the same place, and had cocktails and food in between while we were taking pictures. I get that some people want to get married at a church, but get married at 5 then, and have cocktail hour at the location so guests can drive straight there. Catholics probably are the worst at this since they have mass on Saturday afternoons so it forces them to get married early in the day. -
Fab4RunnerI agree with the waiting thing. Our ceremony and reception are at the same place, and there will be a cocktail hour with plenty of food, plus yard games to keep people entertained.

Is your wedding NASCAR themed?Fab4Runner;1744014 wrote:plus yard games to keep people entertained.
What will you do if it rains? -

It is not. We will move it inside, and there will be no yard games.MontyBrunswick;1744019 wrote:Is your wedding NASCAR themed?

Fab4RunnerBtw, it is not uncommon to have lawn games at an outdoor wedding. Not sure what seems NASCAR about it, tbh. I know this pic is huge, but I fail to see an issue with these games.

Yeah, Catholic here. It might seem like a pain in the ass, and to some degree, it is. But it is easily handled. Most casual guests go to the marraige ceremony or the reception, but not necessarly both. For those coming from a long distance, some accomodation is made for the "in between hours." Usually it is very close friends or family, so often there is an informal get together at someone's house, or a hospitality room is setup at a location in or near the reception site.iclfan2;1744002 wrote:This. It just doesn't feel appropriate for a wedding, but it is *your* wedding.Fab4Runner;1744033 wrote: I fail to see an issue with these games.

TiernanJust have plenty of booze because every Catoleigh I ever went to CCD with likes to knock em back. Have some unescorted teenage boys there for the priest to pass the time with.

I bet you think a photo booth at a wedding reception is dumb idea/not appropriate as well.MontyBrunswick;1744052 wrote:It just doesn't feel appropriate for a wedding, but it is *your* wedding.

No, that seems like it'd be more appropriate since you'd get a memento to take home with you/remind you of the wedding.Iliketurtles;1744057 wrote:I bet you think a photo booth at a wedding reception is dumb idea/not appropriate as well. -
HitsRusHad a photo booth at my daughter's wedding...I was skeptical, but it turned out to be quite popular.
I think there are a million ways/styles you can do a wedding or a reception. The key is treating your guests right....make sure the food is good and plentiful, the drinks are good and plentiful, and the entertainment is good and plentiful. -

Who the fuck wants that? I've never gone to a wedding and been like "gee, I hope they have something there that I can take home with me so I can remember this wedding!"MontyBrunswick;1744061 wrote:No, that seems like it'd be more appropriate since you'd get a memento to take home with you/remind you of the wedding.
You're stuck in a delusional world where there is a giant stick stuck directly up your ass. -
