Married Folk

Where was your wedding, and how much did you pay for it?

My fiancé and I are in the midst of planning, and let me just say that it fucking sucks.

Myrtle Beach, paid less than $200 for license, and preacher to marry us on the beach! Spent nearly a grand however on the reception when we got home!

My wedding was at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell, Ohio. The reception was at Knights of Columbus hall 4617 in Churchtown. Overall price of the wedding/reception was like $6500. We had an open bar that cost me like $1500. so if you include that it was like $8000.

I went to a wedding last year that was every bit of 80k.

    LOL

    Had fun though.

I went to one in NOLA last march (actually it was a cousin of mantooth), that thing had to be in the $175,000 range.

This was one was rather small too, but a lavish setup.

It blows my mind. All that coin for one fucking day.

Yeah, but you gotta look at it like this. I was married in BFE Ohio. My buddy did it in the French Quarter, your friend's I assume was in NYC somewhere. Part of the price is you just can't do cheap in those zip codes.
  • Automatik
West Virginia. NYC and the surrounding area is even more ridiculous.

    The Oaks, Chippewa Lake. 2013.

Wedding and reception all there. Had 100 in attendance, and we had about $14k wrapped in all of it (venue, food, open bar, cake/cupcakes, officiant, DJ, flowers/decorations, photographer, etc.)

Technically about $10k of that was her parents, but $14k was total cost.

Sneaky (but shrewd) way to let everyone know you're getting married. Chicks love to let everyone know that & guys could gaf

Lol. False. First of all, this is not the first time I have mentioned it on here. One time in particular, I said that I hate calling him my fiancé, which is true. I hate it.

Similar to jcrazy.. wedding at St Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton. Reception at K of C in Massillon. Less than 10 grand. Food was simple... Chicken, sausage and peppers, ham, rigatoni, green beans, cheesy potatoes.. Open bar.

40 plus years ago... Wife dad paid for the wedding (big wedding) sit down dinner, open bar, band everything.....
As a guy it was a pain in the ass and frustration for my wife to be. We almost called it off because of the wedding planing a few times... one of the worst parts of being married. He then I think he dropped over $6000.00

The wife and I have great memories of that day but it could have been simple, less costly .... anf the meaning just the same.
Looking back on it now if her dad would have just given us the money to go to buying our first house would have been money better spent...

To me, $8000-$10,000 is a reasonable amount. My fiancé thinks we should spend $5k on a wedding for 175ish people (huge families, can't really be helped). I think he is fairly crazy.

    We eloped.
    Best decision we have made.

Went down to New Orleans in October 2014. Went to a courthouse across the river, paid $130 and got hitched by the Judge on a balcony overlooking the city.
Told all of our friends and family afterward. We hinted we would do that (as we have been together 10 years beforehand).

We held 3 parties for each our families and friends. One in my hometown, one in her's and one for our friends here in DC.
All told, costs for the trip to NOLA, costs of the parties, and fees, about $2K, which we have already paid off.. And....no family drama!

5 would be pretty tough.. a photographer alone is a couple grand for a cheap one.

We had $1,400 for our photographer (and she did a very good job), and everyone she talked to thought that was very cheap. But you'll put down half of $5k in an officiant (unless you use a family member through the Universal Life Church), DJ, and photographer guaranteed.

Got Married at the Athletic Club of Columbus. We probably paid close to $1000 while my wife's parents spent around 40k. We invited about 120 and had around 100 guests. We went expensive in some areas ie. Cigar bar wedding Cake and flowers top shelf open bar and cheap on others no videographer cheap photography

...Got married 34 years ago. I paid for the booze & both my wife's parents & mine split the wedding costs.

If you can find a cheap photographer or family friend you can save a ton. Our officiant was only like $250-$300 and was really good and I think the second highest rated guy in Columbus. Our DJ was like $500-600 and was also good. Book early though because the people who are good and cheap go very fast.

You have to book now to get one worth a damn for next year

Photographer is our biggest issue right now. Cheapest I can find that isn't shitty is about $2,000. I would have absolutely no problem spending way less as long as they are good. I am trying to get info on the photography programs at nearby colleges so I can contact students there. I do not want to spend a fortune, but I refuse to settle for someone sub-par. Wedding pics are one of my top priorities.

The whole timeline thing is another issue. Fiancé thinks I am being a bit crazy because I want to do things now (wedding is 9/24/16), but a lot of vendors are already booked. I make him sound like an ass, when truthfully he is the best person I know. He is just pretty clueless when it comes to shit like this.

Got married in Charleston, SC last year. I'd say it cost between 15 - 20k not including dress. This includes save the dates through bnb the night of wedding. We "splurged" on some dumb things like a string duo for th ceremony ($700). Food n boos alone was $4,500 for 100 people, and that was lower priced companies. Venue cost $3k too. Photographer $2k. Shit adds up quick. Probly would have been a lot cheaper in Ohio though, but not by a whole lot compared to my cousins experiences.

Edit to add, we got engaged in December and married in July, and planned most of it from Ohio.

Our photographer was a college student, definitely good bang for the buck

Scranton, PA in August 2012. No idea on the cost, her parents paid.
