all things Airlines...cheap fares, fees etc.

I try and fly Jet Blue or Virgin if not significantly more. PWN airlines. Best seats, TVs with movies /live tv on every seat. If they're sigficantly more, I'll try Delta, then Southwest.

I've flown from DC to SF for $230 on Jetblue, thought that was a steal.

You guys ever try to search flights on skipped lagged? I have saved from 50-100 bucks using that site.

No, what's that site? So many travel sites hard to keep them all straight.

I've looked into it, but no real savings. I'm usually taking rather short flights. I'm assuming it's good for flights where it's common to have a layover, or a route with few direct flights.

Yup, I.e DC to Denver. Usually Denver is a layover for those trying to fly to LAX.

You guys that are flying/liking Delta...where airport are you flying from? It always seems to be so expensive out of CLE.

    LGA

In my experience, flights in and out of Ohio in general are expensive. I've yet to found a decent price from NYC to Cincy or Cbus. I've heard you can sometimes get deals from NYC to Cleveland but I don't ever go there. I frequent Cincy for work and I'm always tracking Cbus flights to go visit friends.

    Raleigh/Durham.

Before that it was Detroit, which is obviosuly a huge hub along with Atlanta for Delta. So flights were always super easy.

Out of Cleveland, not sure what is use.

As for this...while it sucks, and you had a bad experience, you have to look at it realistically. The company made up for it (at least somewhat) with the voutures. ANY airline could have been delayed 5 hours, you just caught the wrong airline on the wrong day. Any other airline might not (and from my experience...wouldn't have) done anything for you except say sorry. Maybe a bump to 1st Class when you eventually got on another flight.

I've only ever flown Delta and it's only been 4 times. Detroit to Huntsville (twice), Huntsville to Milwaukee, And Columbus to Charleston with a connecting flight in Atlanta. I've never had a problem with them and the only time I had to actually pay for the flight the Delta flight was cheaper and fit my time schedule better then any other airline.

I don't hate flying (actually really like it) but I'd rather just drive somewhere if time permits just because it's cheaper and I normally will need my car anyway.

Cincinnati. I've had two flights in which the second leg got cancelled and both times they gave me vouchers for anywhere in the country one way flights.

The capital one venture card gives you 1.5 miles per the dollar you spend. If you spend 3k in the first 3 months you get 50k miles as well. I have enough miles that will essentially make my roundtrip flight to turkey "free" this summer.

They have a roundtrip feature. If the return trip doesn't really have any layover to save you money, it just gives you a regular search. I use skip lagged as a supplement site to my regular booking site. If I find layover that will save my money through skip lagged, i will book it on another booking website, and then just book a one way flight back.

It sounds like a lot of people like Delta, but not necessarily out of CLE. United out of Cleveland seemed to be much more reasonable price wise, although that might change as it no longer is a hub.
  • slingshot4ever
Detroit is the closest Delta hub

Most likely those flights are during the week days. Gotta have a flexible schedule.

Although it's improved some the past couple years, Delta out of CVG is still pretty damn expensive.

Too bad skybus isnt around any longer! Scored many deals from them!

That's exactly what my wife and I are doing next month. We have a direct flight on Frontier to an all-inclusive in Punta Cana and I was just about to go on and figure out all the fees that we are looking at. Since it's an all-inclusive, I'm thinking we can get away with just one checked back, her purse, and my messenger bag. Might be a stretch, but I know I'm hardly packing a lot for a week at an all-inclusive. I could probably fit all of my clothes in the messenger bag which would qualify as a personal item and not a carry-on.

But I'm trying to get on there before I forget and get the seat assignment figured out. Saw that it "starts at $4" prior to travel. So I guess I need to try to figure that out so that we can make sure we're sitting together for the flight.

Had my 6am Delta flight out of Houston last week cancelled (but delayed at first), and there were no other flights that were not sold out leaving the airport that day (any airline).

I opted to fly standby hoping Platinum would be enough to get on a flight if someone missed theirs. At around 1pm, I am about to board when our original flight is now good to go. Gate agent said I needed to board that one since I was still booked on it, and give my standby to someone else who wasnt booked. I was pretty upset (as it was an hour from taking off), but didnt really make a fuss. Well, then the original flight gets cancelled.

I did make it out on the 3:30 flight to Atlanta and then on to Raleigh, but I was still very displeased with the gate agent not allowing me to board...but everyone else that day was tremendous.

I wrote an email detailing everything in a cordial manner. I initially got 10k Bonus Miles yesterday morning for the cancelled flight and no other options, and then later last night they gave me an additional 10k for the gate agents decision. 20k is something I wont be complaining about.

Just an admittedly shameless plug for Delta Airlines lol

What do you guys use for airline miles, rewards, etc.

Credit card? Or members of airline's reward points systems?

I don't know how that works but I want to start accumulating miles/rewards.

Does United still give you a free checked bag on international flights.

I have a discover more card that I use for the 5% that changes evry three months. We use that card for those categories. My wife has a American Express blue either sky or blue card. I think it's a point for every dollar spent and it takes about $7500 to earn $100 travel credit. We use that card for most things outside the 3 categories.

im sure there's better cards out there. Does anyone know the best reward system on a $0 annual fee card.
