Newly released and upcoming Android phones.

sherm03One cool thing about the new NEXUS phone is that it's one sku for all carriers. It's completely unlocked. If you buy that phone and leave Verizon to go to AT&T, it will work when you put the new SIM in. First phone to go across all carriers in the US.

Why the X instead of the Turbo? Same screen size but Turbo has better battery and ram. Didn't think Turbo was worth $150 more?justincredible;1664472 wrote:Negative. -

Ok, so you buy the phone you want and I'll buy the phone I want.gut;1664478 wrote:If I want a fashion accessory I'll buy a watch
Did you miss the part about carrier exclusivity? I don't want to be locked in to verizon. -
justincredibleI'll gladly take a drop in specs for more flexibility and better aesthetics.

justincredibleMy phone was delivered today. Unfortunately I have to wait until my wife's iphone comes in (estimated delivery: Nov 5-10) before getting it put on a plan. It was shipped with a T-Mo sim card, can I just pop that out when I get home and use it on our wifi until it's time to get a plan through AT&T or T-Mo?

vdubb96When I took the sim card out of my LG G3 there wasn't a damn thing that worked on it other than it being on.

You should be able to. Just make sure you take out the SIM card prior to turning it on so that it doesn't try to auto activate to the network.justincredible;1666134 wrote:My phone was delivered today. Thanks. I'm hoping it will work, I'm really anxious to play around with the phone. I really don't want to wait until November.sherm03;1666141 wrote:You should be able to. Just make sure you take out the SIM card prior to turning it on so that it doesn't try to auto activate to the network. -

This worked. It's going to take a while to get used to the larger phone, but it's definitely nice.sherm03;1666141 wrote:You should be able to. Just make sure you take out the SIM card prior to turning it on so that it doesn't try to auto activate to the network. -

It won't take long for you to get used to it. Give it a week and you'll wonder how you got along with a smaller screen phone this whole time.justincredible;1666154 wrote:This worked. It's going to take a while to get used to the larger phone, but it's definitely nice. -

Like sherm said, it won't take long at all. I swore I would never get a larger phone because I wouldn't be able to get used to it. Ended up going from the S4 to the Note 3, and I'm happy as hell that I did.justincredible;1666154 wrote:This worked. Hmmmm....I'm at the same point. I'll have to play with them. Simple fact is 4.7" old Moto X (which is the size I want) is probably plenty spec-wise for me. This new moto turbo coming out is a "big" 5.2" and probably $300-$400 more. Saving that money would make it a lot easier to justify an upgrade in a year or two.GoChiefs;1666176 wrote:Like sherm said, it won't take like at all. justincredibleI've been playing around on the Moto X for a few days now (still no service plan, my wife's iphone gets here Thursday) and it is friggin' awesome. It's weird when I go from the X back to my iPhone 5 to make a call or something, it makes the screen seem even smaller than it actually is. And it didn't take long at all to get used to the larger device size, maybe 2 days.

gutI don't know...based on overall physical dimensions, the Droid Turbo is a big freaking phone. Supposedly not much bigger than the X2, but 25% bigger than my Rezound.
I might wait and see. Rumors of a "mini" Turbo with the same awesome specs but in a 4.3" or 4.7" display size. -
sherm03
Side by side, X2 and Turbo are literally about the exact same size. They are both surprisingly thin and lightweight for phones with 5.2" screen. I have not heard of any mini Turbo on the horizon. But if you're willing to get a phone that's at 4.7", the 5.2" is really not that much of a difference. IMO, it's not worth waiting on the possibility of a phone that is only .5" smaller diagonally.gut;1668232 wrote:I don't know...based on overall physical dimensions, the Droid Turbo is a big freaking phone. On the other hand...if you do end up going with the original Moto X, Motorola announced that it will be getting the 5.0 upgrade very soon. -
justincredibleHow soon? I'm getting anxious.

Decisions decisions....The original Moto X is 4.7" but actually a hair smaller than my 4.3" Rezound, probably because of no capacitative buttons (which I kind of like, and the Turbo has).sherm03;1668281 wrote: On the other hand...if you do end up going with the original Moto X, Motorola announced that it will be getting the 5.0 upgrade very soon.
The mini was rumored back when the Turbo was going thru testing. Supposedly had a codename and the whole 9 yards (and the leaker is a reliable source). Said to be 4.3". I think it's coming, and if it is would probably be announced in about 4 weeks.
Last year, Moto had the Maxx, the Ultra and a mini (in addition to the X). So it would be odd to replace all those first 3 with just one model. -

It shouldn't be long. That's one of the nice things about having a phone without all the bloat and overlays, these Android releases push out much faster than on competitor devices.justincredible;1668284 wrote:How soon? I'm getting anxious.

If it is happening, it's crazy that (1) there haven't been any leaks on it and (2) our team hasn't heard a thing about it. And Moto isn't replacing all three of those with one model. They are keeping at least the Maxx and Mini around and moving the Turbo to the top of the line device. Eventually, down the road, I can see upgrades to the Maxx and Mini happening. But I wouldn't count on that happening this year at all.gut;1668289 wrote:Decisions decisions....The original Moto X is 4.7" but actually a hair smaller than my 4.3" Rezound, probably because of no capacitative buttons (which I kind of like, and the Turbo has).

Been over a year on the mini and it's due for a refresh. EVLEAKS and a few others leaked rumors of the mini back in June/July. He was dead on with the Turbo, and said there was an otherwise identical 4.3" device codenamed Valocia(?) going thru testing that would replace the mini. There've been a few more rumors of at least one more device (mini).sherm03;1668314 wrote: If it is happening, it's crazy that (1) there haven't been any leaks on it and (2) our team hasn't heard a thing about it. Last year @ July/Aug Moto came out with a landslide of devices. Was it 4 or 5? They've come out with 2 so far (not counting G and E, which are quite different). Safe bet there's at least one more Droid coming out in 2014.
