Well if I lied to my employer and failed to take corrective measures as prescribed by them I would certainly expect my job to be in jeopardy.FatHobbit;1639125 wrote:I talked to a friend today who is semi involved with OSU and the band. He said that Waters was given steps to save his job and those steps included sexual harassment training. He didn't go to the sexual harassment training and that sealed his fate.
Yes because victims of sexual harassment need to chill.believer;1639145 wrote:Then the solution would be for these "emotionally affected" students to quit...simple enough. The level of Nanny Statism effecting American society these days is the real problem here, not emotionally traumatized adult-aged college students.
You tell Boogie to chill. The PC crowd needs to chill.
We've become a society of whiny children with entitlement mentalities. -

Fucking helicopter parents.iclfan2;1638863 wrote:This was caused by a parent complaining. What a loser. Your kid is an adult, stay out of their lives. The director being fired is stupid.
I've got a buddy in the band right now and they're all pissed about this. This stuff has been going on since the 60's. He told me it was a girl who was given a nickname and she had no idea what it meant until they all told her. She got pissed, told her mom and that's what lead to all this. He told me no one has ever had to anything they didn't want to do either. I don't know if I should post this considering it could possibly be libel. I'm just going off what I was told. -

This is basically it. Sounds like the guy thought he was untouchable. What he failed to realize is: even though he's at the top of the industry, that industry is still fucking marching band.Mohican00;1639187 wrote:Well if I lied to my employer and failed to take corrective measures as prescribed by them I would certainly expect my job to be in jeopardy. -
rmolin73Who gives a shit about a band director?

This has already been covered...thanks for playing.rmolin73;1639255 wrote:Who gives a shit about a band director? -
Pick6I'm not sure why so many of you think "tradition" (bullshit excuse by the way), is an acceptable reason to have zero professionalism. The crap they had to do had absolutely nothing to do with what they were there for. And before anyone wants to throw "sissy pc boy" at me, I'm extremely anti-pc.

Manhattan BuckeyeFrom what I've read, our high school basketball team would be banned years ago.

You took time to get the whole story but missed the part where this is exactly what happened.HitsRus;1638801 wrote:I thought I'd get the full story before commenting seriously.......Rather than a 2 month study, why not just say "Hey, we can't allow this anymore, so make sure it is stopped." \ -
OSHNo need for any coach or "leader" to talk/act like is reported and validated. Better ways to lead. The type of atmosphere doesn't need to exist or be encouraged from above.

Pick6tradition is making the freshman football players carry a senior's helmet back to the locker room after practice. tradition is making the freshman jump into the nasty moss-filled pond. tradition isn't making the obese girl practice in her underwear and bra, making people imitate incestation, or making people imitate fucking one another. That's harassment and just down right creepy.

TiernanBand IS creepy dumass...deal with it

He was told by his employer to stop the conduct and attend sexual harassment training. He did neither. In what world does that not get someone fired?WebFire;1639512 wrote:http://mominamillion.wordpress.com/2014/07/27/drive-through-it-osumb/
Not to mention, a male authority figure overseeing "underwear practices" with female college students is incredibly creepy.
Nothing she says addresses either of those points. She just rambled about how strong the band made her(LOL worthy in its own right.) -
HitsRus
Oh, grow up. She sure did address that. Not to mention, a male authority figure overseeing "underwear practices" with female college students is incredibly creepy.
More than that, he has the support of almost all band members past and present. Most of the allegations were of the nature ...one person said this....one person said that. It should be pretty obvious that administration officials are in CYA mode, and they just took the easy way out and made him the scapegoat, seizing on that he hadn't scheduled "sexual harrassment" training ...YET.Although I don’t agree with all actions and believe that some of the traditions need to be removed or changed, I don’t feel that a voluntary event of “marching in your underwear” (just to name one) taints college kids’ minds. If you can march ramp in your underwear, you can march in full uniform in front of over 100,000 people. -
Big_Mirg_ZHSJoobs is pissed.

In what context is it in any way appropriate for a university authority figure to host underwear practices with a coed organization of students? It's one thing for hazing to be done from one student to another student, it's another for it to be a university employee to students.HitsRus;1639535 wrote:Oh, grow up. She sure did address that.
If the university chair of greek activities was found to be paddling 18 year old fraternity and sorority members, they'd be fired too. Voluntary or not. -
SportsAndLadyYeah just stop, Hits.
He deserved the firing. You can't refuse sexual harassment training when asked to go from reasonable cause. -
DeyDurkie5Fire him and move on. It's the band

TiernanJesus Douchekie actually said something that makes sense for once.

Maybe we should fire every school's president too for what goes on in the dorm rooms.DeyDurkie5;1639550 wrote:Fire him and move on. It's the band -
HitsRusClearly, he's being made the scapegoat for what has gone on as tradition for 40+ years. All of this went on with a wink and a nod until someone complained. It is unrealistic to expect that Waters, as a former band member, would go out of his way to change these traditions that the University had previously given a free pass to. Waters first learened of these investigations of the problem 2 months ago, and there is evidence that he had begun to root out some of the objectionables procedures.
Obviously, by firing Waters, the University hopes to protect itself (at least the current administration)from potential lawsuits. Fairness towards Waters was not an option, and that he did not immediately attend 'sexual harrassment' training, was used as the excuse. -
thavoiceThat leaked audio is a joke! Ya hear worse at a junior high practice!
Sounds like the new guy is getting screwed unless more infor comes out.
and yeah..it is only the band so its no big deal -
Dr Winston O'Boogie
Amen. If there is a cultural problem with the band - which I question, but I don't have any first hand knowledge - there are ways to address that like big boys without going immediately to the PC card. THis is an educational institution and look how it is teaching its students to handle problems: act reactionary instead of proactively, find scapegoats and blame them, spend excess money to tidy it all up, and feign moral outrage throughout. Sorry, but world doesn't work this way, so this is a terrible lesson. Life can and will kick each of us in the face occasionally. We need to be prepared for that and to react like grown ups. If there's a problem, we address it like mature adults as opposed to outraged kiddies on the playground.sleeper;1639578 wrote:Maybe we should fire every school's president too for what goes on in the dorm rooms.
I am not passionate about the marching band itself. I just can't believe we are living in a in a time where we have to react this way every time someone says "boo".
