  You'll have to show me where anyone said that golden retrievers were the same as pit bulls, especially since I was under the impression that the argument was based around your opinion that goldens are never aggressive naturally.

  I've been bitten by 3 lab retrievers in my life. All unprovoked. Never been bitten by pits sheperds or dobermans which I've spent plenty of time around. Dogs are dogs. If treated with respect and love they grow up loving and friendly. If abused and hit they will bite. All dogs bite. Pits make the news because they absolutely cause more damage when they bite. Most other dogbites probably go unreported. My chihuahua has bitten three this year but as of yet has been unable to break skin

  I'm not one to take sides but MB has been the voice of reason on this thread for the most part, especially early. I have to admit, I skimmed through much of the "who can piss further into the wind" and "who went to law school where" portions.
  
  In summation, owning any dog is a responsibility and one that is taken too lightly by too many folks. Owning a breed like a pit bull, is even more tricky. There is no debating the facts that pit attacks are the most common in America. It doesn't mean they are "bad" dogs but they are predisposed for this behavior and need to be trained with care.
  
  I also think we need to put levels on this stuff. Has a Golden Retriever ever unprovoked, bitten a human? Yes. But these pit bulls are MAULING humans, adult and child alike. There is a big difference between a dog bite (happens all the time) and what some of these pits and rots are doing.

  Any breed of dog can be or can be trained to be violent, on the other hand trained to obey, be controlled, have control and be a pet for the family, friends and children.
  Responsible dog owner should train their dog .. no matter what the breed… simple solution
  
  I had five Goldens in my life and now one Goldendoddle … all trained and all friendly, no fence in my yard they stay within my property trained to do so, they all play with my grandkids and other kids at the park, I can walk my dog without a leash and with one command the dog will drop where ever it at.
  
  I have seen Goldens out of control, potential ready to bit and scary but the owner takes no responsibility for the dog behavior and no effort to understand why the dog behaves this way. If it was up to me the owner would be on a choker chain first to be trained before I would let them have a pet ever again.
  
  Some of the Pit Bull issue I would shot the owner first and save the dog society would be better off…

  There are like 12 goldin retrievers in the us so it is hard for them to bite anyone. A popular dog inn the late 80's. Pit bulls probably are 10-15 to 1 in current population. This data is only from personal observation which is popular here I see

  My guess? They live in places where crime is rampant (unlike suburbs), so they get a dog to protect them/their belongings.
