Donald Sterling banned for life by NBA

yes i think its worse if you say i hope no blacks come to my door over jehovahs' witnesses. i do think there are degrees of hatefulness, each person makes judgements everyday on things and most people have judged this to be extremely hatefull more so than other things mentioned.

    for example,

i have a friend who last weekend while drunk at our local hh spot where we are all good friends with the bartenders, called another one of our friends a retarded ******t. soon as he said it i knew it was going to be a problem not only because its offensive but because the bartender has a brother who is autistic. was it offensive yes, did he apologize and feel bad yes. have i done similar things yes.

i dont equate this situation with the sterling comments. if feel they were way worse and showed true racism in the form that you think one class or race of people is inferior to another. i think this is what caused the reaction. not just saying something offensive. ie. riley cooper or kobe bryant

Is Zwick one of those people who, when people are talking about a sports team and criticize the performance of a player, immediately jumps in with an "You have no right to say anything unless you've played at that level!" sort of comment? Because that's the same sort of moronic logic as "You can't say anything about this guy because you're all bad, bad people, too!"
  • Laley23
I seriously cannot grasp why he thinks we are all as bad as him? I dont know anyone who has said stuff like that and actually meant it.

Easier than having an actual discussion based on real facts as opposed to "I know this and anyone who says different is a liar". The stuff of elementary school.

Actually it was you who attributed the word 'animals' to black people. I was merely talking about people in general who act this way but apparently someone needs to add labels.

Not mad. I like the ruling because the legal battle is going to be interesting to watch. I'm hoping Sterling calls out the NAACP for the frauds they are; don't you want to see this too?

My point is no one can talk shit about what kind of person he is b/c we all do the same thing.

That being said, there are consequences in life and he's going to deal with them now.
But don't act for one second like this man is any worse than you.
I actually agree with ZWICK in this case. I've definitely said some things tongue in cheek about other groups that if recorded would sound worse than they actually are. I'm sure ts1227 has never said anything about rednecks or welfare momma's either.

Why can't we just live in a world where people stop getting their panties in a bunch over words? Understand that action may be taken if those words are ACTED upon, but merely saying something shouldn't elicit this response. That's the problem we have these days; people have nothing better to do than to race bait other people and its not whites.

Do you believe all races are equal?

    Same? No.
    Equal? Yes.

i do think all men are created equal and no one race is better than any other race. if i had a daughter she could marry any race she pleased. i bet a lot of people on here cant say that:huh:

I wouldn't care if my daughter brought home any race but you're kidding yourself if you think all races are equal. Doesn't take much of an effort to look at statistics in this country and realize certain races lead in undesirable categories that most people would attribute with inferiority. Add in other hand helping mechanisms like AA and anti-discrimination laws(read: we sue you if you don't hire or fire us laws) and I could make a case a race is inferior.

Not a popular opinion I'm sure, but that's part of the problem. We can't have an honest conversation about race and/or race relations because we pretend that everything is A-OKAY and that certain races are only in the spot they are in because of external factors. That's why I constantly remark, when are they going to grow up and FIX THEIR OWN PROBLEMS? Until that happens, all races are not equal nor will they ever be equal. However should they all be treated equal, well yeah; but they are not equal.

Why is race immune to standard metrics of determining which is better and which is not? This happens all the time in society, job interviews, sporting events, pop culture statistics(who's the fattest, who's the smartest, etc), but somehow race is seen as blindly equal because it sounds PC.

Probably more a philosophy discussion for a different thread, so feel free to go back to the main topic if you want.

I'm very interested in hearing a statement from Sterling, when will this ever happen?

i think if you take two babies of different races and give them the same upbringing in the same household you will get similar if not identical results....nature vs. nuture type thing i beieve the environment is determining factor in success/behavior. on my visits to wva to see that side of my family i see stunning examples of these undesirable qualities in my white side of family and when i go to weirton or stuebenville i see the same qualities on my black side.

Probably. Yet the reality says otherwise in the US. Globally as well; I mean let's be honest Africa isn't exactly the place to be.
  • sleeper
Keep in mind I understand Africa better than most and the people there certainly have a better argument about external factors than those in the US, but its still curious don't you think?

Why? .. b/c it affects you personally. What makes a jehovahs witness less important than a black peson? Either way you're discriminating that person. One isnt better than the other.

And you just proved my point of whats wrong with our thinking. It's ok to mock or discriminate a religion, but damnit not a skin color. What fucking sense does that make? None.

No.. im trying to get you to open your mind and see there shouldn't be any protected classes. discrimination is discrimination. which of course, it isnt in reality.

Of course you cant grasp it. That's been proven.
Him saying he doesnt want any blacks around isnt any worse than someone saying i dont want any bible thumpers around. But for some reason, it is worse.

no i grew up a witness and my mom still is one...besides that most people dont want them coming to their door...that doesnt bother me. if you said i dont want a black witness coming to my door thats worse is my point. or if you didnt want a black person at all coming to my door that bothers me. most people dont want any religion coming to their door. most people either have a religion already or dont like religion so its pretty common to not want people knocking on your door for that purpose

whether it bothers you or not is moot point. you as a black man getting told dont come around my daughter, you're black, you have nothing in common. isnt any worse than a catholic getting told dont come around my daughter, you're catholic, you have nothing in common. but thats accepted in our country.

i thought you said come to my door not my daughter. why would you feel they have nothing in common? either with the catholics or the blacks? also i didnt realized catholics had it so bad. isnt it the most popular religion in the us?
