The Greek meaning/translation of the word Pope is father. Based on Catholic interpretation of Matthew 16: 18-19, Christ anointed Peter leader of the apostles and of the church. In doing so, he made him infallible when he acted or spoke as Christ's Representative on Earth he was acting directly on behalf of the father. This ability was passed on to Peter's successor and down the line. So according to the Catholic church their line of Popes(father's) traces back all the way to that moment, and when one becomes a Pope he becomes infallible when acting or speaking on behalf of the father.sleeper;1576845 wrote:Like the pope? Who's not even mentioned in the bible? LOL FAIL.
So technically speaking, you are wrong. This is excusable however because I do not believe that you have read the bible, therefore your knowledge on the bible is limited/close to 0%. You should stop making claims that religious/biblical people are wrong until you become more informed on what they believe. -

I have 2 points to make in regards to your claim COA. The 1st point: Yes, you are correct when you say that you Don't have to be religious to be smart or successful. I never said one must be religious in order to be successful, so I am not quite sure why you felt the need to make that point. Sleeper made the claim or inferred that religious are all stupid and should kill themselves. I provided examples of successful religious people, that 99.99999% of the population would agree are not stupid. Thus Sleepers claim that all religious people are stupid is an opinion that hardly anybody on this earth will agree with.Commander of Awesome;1576894 wrote:Successful, rich, rapists. My 2nd point: the examples you have provided are people that are or have been rich and successful, but not all of those have committed rape. So you are wrong with your claim that they are all rapists. You choose to ignore the facts of the matter in which the rape case against kobe Bryant was dismissed. In the United States, when a person is charged with a crime, and then the charges get dismissed, the person did not commit the crime. It is unfair and inaccurate of you to call someone a criminal or a rapist when the facts indicate otherwise. -

I'm not christian - but saying that a man was resurrected immediately discredits anything that was written. If a man was resurrected in a time w/o modern technology, then we should be bringing back people from the dead left and right.gport_tennis;1576834 wrote:Lets use Christianity for example, as it relates to this particular thread. Is your argument that the Bible is 100% false and none of the events claimed in the bible actually occured? Or do you believe that some pieces of the bible are true and some are false? Have you actually read the bible or are you claiming that a book you have not read is fiction?

Raw Dawgin' itMost people are religious because that's how they were brought up. They never question it. For the religious people on here, what's your reason for believing in god? What happened to you that made you go "I can't explain this, so it must have been devine intervention"
If you grew up with it, and just blindly believe it without every questioning why, then I think you're an idiot.
Also - throwing out politicians as religious is horseshit. They're all christian to relate to voters. -

I would agree with you on the fact that if you believe something (not even necessarily religion) to be true without questioning the belief, that is foolish. When there is no definitive clear cut answer, you should always be able to question yourself on why you belief what you do and be able to explain why you believe what you believe.Raw Dawgin' it;1577077 wrote:Most people are religious because that's how they were brought up. What I have experienced in my life points me in the direction that God and Lucifer/Satan/Devil exist. I have encountered what I believe to be Demonic Spirits and Angelic spirits in my life on this planet, and these experiences make me believe that there is something of higher power (both good and evil) in this world that can not necessarily be explained by men.
In regards to Politics, not sure why you felt the need to say politicians that are religious are liars. I will agree with you that some politicians are liars and will do/say anything to get a vote, including using religion. But in the United States today, I would say it is a disadvantage to be a religious person in politics, and an extreme disadvantage to be Christian/Catholic/Mormon. How many mormon jokes did we hear about Mitt Romney, how many people criticized him for his religious beliefs and values?

In your opinion, there is no higher power than human beings, and therefore if a human can not do it, it can not be done, Is that correct? A christian believes that there is a higher power in this world/ existence and that higher power is God. A christian believes that God sent his son to this world and his son was named Jesus, and Jesus performed many miracles, including rising from the dead. If you believe that there is a power higher than you and this higher power sends his son to the world with normal Human Beings, why is it so illogical to believe that Jesus could do many things that other could not?Raw Dawgin' it;1577065 wrote:I'm not christian - but saying that a man was resurrected immediately discredits anything that was written. Examples please. Would you believe this if you weren't brought up christian? Because it would've happened again. Why do you believe that? All this "happened" thousands of years ago and no one has any documentation going back that far, which means the stories are so distorted that to believe any of it as fact is ludicrous. Play a game of telephone with 20 people and see what happens. Now do the same thing over centuries. -

Can you prove that the bible was not created for entertainment purposes? Should we believe that a flying invisible pink unicorn controls the world because we cannot 100% prove that it doesn't exist?gport_tennis;1576872 wrote:Your comparison is not valid IMO. Titanic is a movie created primarily for entertainment/business purposes, The movie does not and was not created to give you the principles in which to life your life to. If a person does not believe the Titanic existed, a person can go see for themselves the titanic on the bottom of the ocean floor. If said person sees the titanic for himself, and still chooses to believe the titanic is made up or fairy tail, then that person is a fool.
There is not 100% proof that God/Jesus are fake, and likewise there is not 100% proof that God/Jesus exist in the capacities that the bible claims. If people of a religion have a certain practice/set of beliefs that are different then your own, they are not automatically wrong and dumb, no matter how many times you say they are without providing proof or facts.
