Changing jobs...
-
justincredibleIt looks like I will be putting in my two-weeks notice today. I haven't had to do that in 4 years, and I've never had to do it at a job that I didn't hate. Not looking forward to that conversation with my boss but the new opportunity was too good to pass up. Our office has been working from home since Thanksgiving because we are getting a new space and it is being renovated at the moment. We are all meeting for lunch today, which is convenient because I'll be seeing my boss. I can't decide if I should have the conversation before or after lunch, though.

wildcats20After.
He might fire you instead of accepting your two weeks and then you'll be out a free lunch. -
justincredibleI'll be paying for the lunch either way, and it's only a chinese buffet.

Oh well, I would still do it after.justincredible;1567763 wrote:I'll be paying for the lunch either way, and it's only a chinese buffet.
If you do it before, it might make lunch super awkward. -

Yeah, my only thought is everyone else would be there as a buffer to make it less awkward. Either way I am dreading it, I've got that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach already.wildcats20;1567764 wrote:Oh well, I would still do it after.

justincredibleThat said, the new place is friggin awesome. Semi-large, multi-city agency, cool space, great perks, laid back culture (I can still wear jeans and t shirts to work), good benefits.

After. I wouldn't involve the other peeps at all. That is a conversation you need to have with your boss before telling everyone else.justincredible;1567766 wrote:Yeah, my only thought is everyone else would be there as a buffer to make it less awkward. queencitybuckeyeBefore. Selfishly, these kinds of situations tear me up inside, so I just want to get it over with.

Keep this info in your pocket. If at anytime during the lunch the boss says something stupid or acts like a dick, then tell him "you sir are a dick and you have my two weeks notice."
This way it makes it all his fault and your co-workers will be basked in your awsomeness.
And if he isn't a dick, you don't want this to turn into a "good bye meal" that you yourself had to pay for. -

Yeah, I mean, I would pull him aside and have the conversation with just the two of us. I will likely do it after unless he and I are the first two there.WebFire;1567768 wrote:After. sleeperYou're being a little bitch about it. Before or after no one gives a shit. Just go up to him, like a man, and tell him you have accepted a job at another company and your last day will be 'X'. Don't take any counter offer, don't tell him why he sucks and the company he manages sucks, just move on.
-
thavoiceI guess homsteading pays better than we all thought........
but anyways goodluck. Can be tough to do when you dont hate your job.
The last job I quit told them at the end of january, and stated that since the new year started so does my 3 weeks vacation my last day IN OFFICE would be day X (2 weeks after the notice) and the last day officiall with the company after the vacatio would be Day Y(3 weeks after my two weeks notice).
I didnt really expect them to pay me the full three weeks vacation but they did. -

sleeperAlso, I know my company doesn't allow 2 week notices. If you want out, you are out that day. They literally tell you to pack your desk up and leave with a security officer right after you inform them of your intentions. Good luck!

My company is only 3 people. Again, that's why this is hard. Small company, like a family, I like the job.sleeper;1567783 wrote:Also, I know my company doesn't allow 2 week notices. Sorry, I'll go be a bitch in private so you don't have to deal with it. -
vdubb96Good luck man, leaving a place you like always sucks.
-
Con_AlmaI would probably suggest before and not plan on staying for lunch. Give them the opportunity to discuss your departure at lunch and how they might move forward....that's if you truly respect them and they have treated you well.
-
GOONx19For the last two weeks, eat only the crunchiest food you can find, as loud as possible.
-
justincredible
I doubt they are going to want to discuss moving forward at lunch since we are going out with an ex-coworker and the other company we share an office space with (2 people).Con_Alma;1567790 wrote:I would probably suggest before and not plan on staying for lunch. We also don't have an office right now so I would only annoy my dogs. -

Belly35Your wife just quit her job for schooling and you’re taking a new job ….. balls
You have to do what is best for your family and your well being …. Don’t burn bridges
Don’t burn bridges, keep the doors open and relationship handy. -
dlazzI had to put in my two weeks last Monday. It went about as well as I'd hoped.
Part of me wished they would've just let me go that same day, but instead I've spent a majority of the week doing nothing. -

lol.Talk about super bitching out. Always offer to help transition any work you currently have during your 2 weeks. -

That's because your company probably treats employees like pawns and doesn't give a shit about what kind of bind that will leave people in.sleeper;1567783 wrote:Also, I know my company doesn't allow 2 week notices.
