Changing jobs...

  • jmog
I accepted a new job the 2 days before I had to fly to China for engineering meetings.

I asked the the new place for 3 weeks due to the 1 week trip.

MMO waited until we got back to the office to give my 2 weeks as I did NOT want my departure hanging over that rather intense set of meetings with the Chinese customer. My boss was on the trip too.

This is because you are an adult and accept your responsibilities

I didn't suggest leaving on the spot but rather plan on being asked to leave. I agree with offering to assist in the transition. As an employer I also would rarely ask an employee to stay for the 2 weeks. I'd pay them for the 2 weeks, thank them for their service to the company and wish them well.

Part of me wished they would've just let me go that same day, but instead I've spent a majority of the week doing nothing.
I've given my notice twice and both times I secretly hoped they would tell me it's cool I can just go home. Last job I quit, I fucking hated and didn't want to give 2 weeks notice, but I was afraid it would somehow back fire on me down the road so I stuck out it the last 2 weeks even though I hated every second of working there.

They pay a lot of money though. Can't complain.

After. You don't want to be interrupted in the middle of your conversation by your co-worker(s) who are arriving for lunch.

Yeah, that's what I wanted to do, but fought the urge.

That's a part-time gig. Not enough traffic to have a full timer.

Conversation was surprisingly easy. We were the first two there so I just got it out of the way right off the bat. He seemed genuinely happy for me.

He was going to fire you, and was wondering if he should do it before or after lunch.

Technically just co-worker, but yes. I told the other two people we share our space with as well. Everyone was happy for me but sad to see me leave.

Maybe he's a sociopath pretending to be happy so you don't expect it when he gets his horrible revenge.
