What was the last movie you watched and how would you rate it?

It's an interesting turn for Phoenix, but some of his best work derives from playing offbeat characters. While the plot is weird -- Phoenix's character falls in love with a computer voiced by Scarlett Johansson -- I am a big fan of the actor's work and love his co-star Rooney Mara, so I will definitely check it out. Phoenix is great in roles that require him to show a wide range of emotions and this unusual drama centered on an emotionally-disturbed man who becomes romantically involved with a computer should provide that. The reviews have been good, at least.
Heard it was really good, despite the strange premise.

    just watched

    american hustle

    12 years a slave

    i enjoyed all 3

New on iTunes, Elysium: 5/10. It was ok, the action sequences were very good and Damon was satisfactory, but the story fell apart and the political point actually backfired.

New and old on iTunes, the Indiana Jones series. The first three are timeless and great, Indy 4 gets another 1/10. It might be worse than the Phantom Menace.

I have to disagree with part of your opinion. The first Raiders is a classic. The third is a B+. However the second is a tragedy. The kid and the female sidekicks are painful and the supernatural aspects are comical. That film is an unfortunate preview of the latter-generation Raider movies that have come out recently. It belongs in the same bed as the Phantom Menace.

I agree it was the weakest of the trilogy, but it is still Indiana Jones. There are many parts of it that didn't work to your point, and in some parts racialist. But at least the mining chase was a good set of scenes, and Harrison Ford was awesome, as usual. But to compare it to Phantom Menace? Not sure about that.

I just really, really struggle with the kid and the chick. They have zero business in Indy's world. Indy would never have a kid in tow and he would never go near a woman like that one. The kid emporer was hard to stomach as well. Those three should have been pushed off a cliff together in the climatic scene - that would have possibly saved the film.

The saving graces of the film were the mine chase (as you say) and the exotic foods dinner. But those were it. Maybe not Jar Jar Binks bad, but close.

This is 40 - 6/10. There were some funny moments, and I didn't hate it.

2 Guns- 7/10. Good action movie. Mark Wahlberg character was funny and Denzel Washington is solid as usual.

I can't really think of a Wahlberg movie I didn't enjoy other than The Happening.

Agreed. But that movie was so horrible that it made me dislike him for a while.

    The trilogy is solid.

The 4th...wasnt much of a fan of. It wasnt horrible, but a few things to me just seemed too damned fake. I did see something about Crystal skulls a year or so ago on History and it changed my thoughts a little bit. I had never heard of them before and that was part of what it made it way too fake. Two had artifacts I had heard of and the other was something that could possibly happen in those tribes.
Just the alien and crystal skull thing seemed dumb...never knew that some actual believed it.

Saw The Wolf of Wall Street tonight, and Leo DiCaprio absolutely murdered the role of Jordan Belfort. When it comes to dark films, I like them pitch black, and with the excess of drugs, debauchery and gallows humor this one provided that and more. The movie had a Goodfellas meets American Psycho sort of feel, which on the one hand is quite the compliment as they are two of the all-time greats. On the other, it left me wanting something more/different.

That said, I'd give the movie a 6 of 10 as it was essentially a 3-hour soft-core porno. If it weren't for stellar individual performances from DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and (briefly) Matthew McConnaughey, this movie would've gotten a 2 based on the unnecessary length. By the third hour, I wished I had some cocaine myself just to get through it. At 2 hours, I loved the film. At 3, I began to fucking hate it.

It was well-done, but I just don't like Melissa McCarthy. I haven't seen her in a role that didn't annoy me.

She doesn't bother me....she has spells where she's the female Kevin James which is usually good for a few laughs. I wish they would've had more humor from Bateman....he's pretty funny

Identity Thief was one of the worst movies I've watched in quite some time. Couldn't even finish it. Can't stand the girl actor.

    Saw American Hustle. Liked it.

Was that Amy Adams first nude scene?

Also thought it was cool that two Boardwalk Empire stars were in it since it was centered in Atlantic City.

See, I don't care for him either. I like his standup more than his acting. I'm sure she's a good actress, so I'm not speaking to her talent or anything. I just don't enjoy her acting or brand of comedy.
