You have to consider that the decade in terms of comedy films wasn't all that great. Mainly Judd Apatow films, and that's it.

Superbad was hysterical. Still makes me
laugh after a ton of viewings. I'm not sure it's a juvenile thing either. It has some very good written comedy. Just because it's a "hs theme", doesn't mean the comedy is juvenile.

Yeah...true. Anchorman, wedding crashers and few others were pretty solid

I did pick up Murph, The Protector, last night. it is a documentary of one of the Navy SEALs that is depicted in Lone Survivor.
The first 1/3 was slow, as it was just about his childhood and growing up. Of course you have family and friends gushing out positive stories about him.
When it got to the point of his military service and training it started to pique my interest more. I would say it isnt for everyone. I was interested in seeing it because I have followed the story since it happened back in 2005 and have heard/read so much about them.

Recently also saw a hokey movie called Touchback. It is a HS football movie that alot of people in my area were interested in. Some will say (including some newspaper guy from NE ohio) it is based on a local school, but it wasnt. All they did was use a local school's name, Coldwater, but that was about it. Think they did say 1-2 other local school names in passing, but in no may was it based on anything from the actual school name they used.

While there were certainly some pretty humorous parts, I just didn't like Superbad as an overall concept. It's not that I necessarily deem it juvenile, but more that the whole "high school party" movie is not really my thing. So, from that perspective, I'd never watch it again. The Hangover, on the other hand, had a story line that was much more interesting to me, while also being hilarious. Just a matter of preference.

I'll probably be in the minority on my rating of this movie as well, but I just watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy the other day for the first time in years and it gets 9.5 stars. The complete randomness of the movie really appeals to me being that surrealist comedy is one of my favorite brands of humor. While it's not quite as good as the novel by Douglas Adams, it is pretty close. Mos Def is excellent as Ford Prefect.

This. Superbad is one of the funniest movies ever. The comedy was somewhat adolescent, but the dialogue was exceptional. They nailed it with the cast.

As I said, it's just a matter of preference. The Hangover was just a more entertaining and funny movie to me. While the Vegas bachelor party plot has been done before, The Hangover approached it in a refreshingly different way and the cast of actors is far superior than that of Superbad (obviously, as those in the latter were all basically newcomers at the time). Being that Vegas is one of my favorite places to go, at least once or twice a year, it made the movie all the more enjoyable.

Lone survivor 10 a perfect 10 I already want to go see it again and go thru the emotional roller coaster again

Saw Lone Survivor today - 9 out of 10 - they put an additional firefight in at the end which didn't really happen according to the book. Didn't need to detract from the actual events the real story is so good to begin with.

I can see your point but it was still pretty damn good. They could have made it even more epic having him crawl the 7 miles to the water rather than walking (he crawled in real life). For a true story it was still pretty accurate

    Jack Reacher.

Not terrible, though its hard to buy Tom Cruise as a bad ass, seeing as he's like 5'6". But overall not a terrible movie.

I thought he was pretty badass in collateral.

I get that people think he is bat shit crazy....and he is, but I don't understand why people won't watch his movies because of it. I only care about the movie, not what his goofy beliefs are off the set

Agreed. I tend to think he's a great actor, and I enjoy a good chunk of his major films.

Frankly, I don't care if he's fruit loops in every other part of his life. I don't pay to watch any other part of his life.

Oh I agree. To me that has no bearing on the film.

kinda badass along with funny in Knight and Day. He also played the psycho spy who went rogue role well.

giving it 7.5 out of 10.

    Side Effects: 7 stars.

Entertaining enough, and I really like Rooney Mara. One of my favorite up-and-coming actresses, if not my favorite. I think she has potential to become one of the biggest of her generation in the next few years.

Surprisingly, Channing Tatum was really good in this role. He's not a bad actor, really.

Battleship. 5/10, but Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna were definitely easy on the eyes.
  • wes_mantooth
    Wolf of wall street: 7/10.
    Her: 6/10
  • reclegend22
Shit. Sucks that Her only got 6 stars. Without giving much away (not sure there's anything to give away, really), not any good?
