Relationship with your boss/supervisor

Raw Dawgin' it
Yeah - my work made it clear during harassment training that things said and done outside of work have consequences. They said we shouldn't even give co workers rides and then told us a story of a woman getting a ride from a co worker and making up a story of how he made a move on her and she fooled around with him just to use it against her husband cause she wanted a divorce.Gblock;1536188 wrote:had a buddy who went out for drinks with the gm and regional gm and then got drunk and talked poorly of his direct manager performance and got fired the next day. apparently they were close friends with his direct supervisor lol
I work at a university, I saw one of the students at the same bar I was at one time and I left right away. -

yea i have seen this happen to people they end up getting blackballed for not being a "team player".BR1986FB;1536187 wrote:This is extremely bush league on his bosses part. If he doesn't go in his boss is probably going to hold this against him which is bogus considering he has the right to time off.
i also had a boss years ago that every time you tried to call in sick he would try to talk you out of taking the day off, you had to have like story A B and C ready in order to take a day off. -

If I had an asshole boss like that and he made me come in, while I was sick, I'd make sure I touched everything on his desk and licked every coffee cup/drinking glass in the cupboard, along with all of the silverware.Gblock;1536197 wrote: i also had a boss years ago that every time you tried to call in sick he would try to talk you out of taking the day off, you had to have like story A B and C ready in order to take a day off. -

lol, I know that feel bro. Since we were buddy buddy, we would talk rather candidly if someone was fucking up, but when the time came to take action it was all BS. Nothing ever came from it.sleeper;1536191 wrote:I just hate how passive aggressive they are about everything. I worked(past tense) with a guy who was clearly incompetent and never did any work; and any work he did do was absolute shit. I went to her and told her that his poor performance was dragging the team down and I had to work extra in order to keep everything running smoothly. So she called a meeting with the team and went over what everyone was working on and when she got to the guy she never pressed into him about the clear disparity between the work he was doing vs. the work everyone was doing. She ended up leaving the company and was replaced by a male and within 2 weeks the new supervisor fired the guy.
And yes this guy was a minority.
Her giving a coworker the silent treatment stemmed from him making a lateral move and then reporting directly to her superior instead of her. This caused a awkward rift throughout the department. Kiddie shit...it was ridiculous.
My last review with her was the best. Her superior came down on her because she wasn't communicating with him about the progress and goals of our department....all as a result of her being butthurt. It was of no fault of mine or anyone else in the department. We sit for the review and her first sentence was... "this is going to be bad, I'm not going to hold back" or something along those lines. She proceeded to complain about her current situation and gave ZERO examples of how I was fucking up. I basically controlled the review after that, told her how I've been dominating and she doesn't even notice. It was the most ridiculous, "professional" encounters I've ever experienced.
Oh yeah, and since she was being butthurt and pissing off her boss, he fucking held off on paying our Q4 bonus. Fortunately, I got that shit back after she resigned and I voiced how we got fucked over.
Once she left...INSTANT moral boost throughout the office. -

it was dreadful..and we had to call in by 530 am...so imagine having that conversation at the crack of down when you are sick(or hungover lol). -
dlazzThe only way I could see myself becoming a friend with a boss is if they are similarly aged to me.
In my current case, that isn't a problem.
I rarely see eye-to-eye with our director but my immediate supervisor is tolerable. I guess. -

If you spent one week with him as your supervisor, you would see why we say that. He is not qualified at all. He's an idiot.Gblock;1536165 wrote:do you work for city/state? where do they make people supervisors because of AA?? not sure im buying it -

i only asked because honestly there has been a lot of talk about AA on OC lately and imo its not as prevelent as it is made out to be...i have know or heard of it in reference to college admission, tests for police and fire something or other and govt contract types of deals in bidding and such...i really dont know personal stories of people that i know that actually i could point to as a specific example. i really havent heard anyone give a first hand account of it at their workplace is all.GoChiefs;1536224 wrote:If you spent one week with him as your supervisor, you would see why we say that. Really? Most companies promote "diversity" which basically means we hire minorities because they are minorities regardless of it they are qualified or not.Gblock;1536234 wrote:i only asked because honestly there has been a lot of talk about AA on OC lately and imo its not as prevelent as it is made out to be...i have know or heard of it in reference to college admission, tests for police and fire something or other and govt contract types of deals in bidding and such...i really dont know personal stories of people that i know that actually i could point to as a specific example. i really havent heard anyone give a first hand account of it at their workplace is all. -

hasbeenMy boss did a lot to get me my job. I also coach under him as well. He's a mentor to me and we do interact on a personal level.
Now, his boss I don't interact with on much of any level. I rarely have to talk to him, but I always feel nervous when I do. He didn't want to give me the job due to the fact that I coach. He does seem happy with what I've done, but that just means I get stuck giving presentations in front of the board. Sucks. -

Meh AA is to me numbers oriented...promoting diversity is Changing behavior oriented an attitude. Not a law not aimed at one group being assimilated into an exiting way of doing things but rather promoting change and new ideas and behaviorssleeper;1536256 wrote:Ah so you're naive. Explains a lot. -
justincredibleMy boss is great. He's 16 years older than I am so it's not like we hang out outside of work or work-related events (holiday parties, outings, etc). Our office has 5 people between 2 companies that share the space, and we all sit in the same room, so it would be hard to work with a shitty boss.

Again, naive. Please explain how some one being black benefits the organization through new ideas and behaviors. I mean do you seriously believe the shit you type or did you read it in a corporate pamphlet?Gblock;1536281 wrote:Meh AA is to me numbers oriented...promoting diversity is Changing behavior oriented an attitude. friendfromlowryMy director is 65-70 years old and not far away from retirement. Our other manager is a 50 year old German-Baptist woman. Working night shift, I rarely see or talk to either of them.

I used it as an example. I've only been in the working world a few years but I've never sat in a meeting and some minority goes "Yeah here's an idea that I learned from my culture". Please elaborate on what you meant by " promoting change and new ideas and behaviors" and how promoting diversity does any of that. Here's a hint for you: Promoting diversity is just a way companies mitigate potential legal damages from letting go a minority for poor work performance. If the company goes "Well we hire minorities over more qualified white people because they are minorities so you can't possibly think we fired this person because they are a minority".Gblock;1536295 wrote:If u think promoting diversity means blacks you're the one who is naive

I suggest a diversity class for you...and yes I do believe the more differnt types of people from different cultures and backgrounds and life experiences adds to the greater good if any organization and this includes all races and genders...anyway my I don't want to debatsleeper;1536298 wrote:I used it as an example. LOL. A diversity class eh? You make broad sweeping statements and can't provide a single example because you have none. I wouldn't want to debate me either because you can't win against logic and that currently is only on this side of the table.
