Christian Soup Kitchen turns away atheist volunteers (Sleeper rant material)
-
Dr Winston O'BoogieI agree with those who blame both sides. The religious group and the athiests are really not all that different from each other though. They seek to be identified with a belief system and often work directly and indirectly to impose their belief on others. Christians who claim to know the will of God are amusing as are atheists who claim to disdain religion while essentially forming their own dogmatic community.

Manhattan BuckeyeApologies, but i'm posting a link so hopefully it will work:

South Park nailed this. We need tolerance, but we don't necessarily need ACCEPTANCE. If the charitable group didn't tolerate another group that is a problem. That doesn't mean they have to ACCEPT anyone.
It is crazy that Trey Parker and Matt Stone understood the issue over a decade ago, yet people don't get it. -

Congrats on using the quote feature!!! I knew you had it in youManhattan Buckeye;1525393 wrote:Yes because I'm not a complete retard that thinks the Constitution is a piece of garbage. We have freedom of association. I don't want to send this to the politics board but Jesus, any charity can make the decision on who they want or don't want to associate with. It doesn't matter if it feeding homeless, helping dogs, or working with young people.
How many analogies do I have to make with a simple concept? Again, completely counterintuitive thread.
So you would be ok with a food kitchen that would feed liberals/dems only and only accept help from dems that swore their allegiance to Obama.
Gotcha... -

No different than a Jewish organization organizing a teen tour for young people and for some reason not wanting non-Jews to be chaperones, or non-Jews to attend.
Either we have freedom of association, or we don't. If it isn't open to the public, it is a private organization. There is a huge difference between opening a clothing shop, accepting money and business from the public and excluding certain groups, and a private organization that controls what they want to do...even if it is a virginal dungeons and dragons group - but you want the government to be involved? Gotcha... -

Would the Democratic party allow Republicans to work on a campaign to reelect a political figure?Devils Advocate;1525396 wrote:Congrats on using the quote feature!!! I knew you had it in you

Nope, but they let them Vote for BHO in the 08 primary.Jawbreaker;1525401 wrote:Would the Democratic party allow Republicans to work on a campaign to reelect a political figure? -
queencitybuckeyeAtheists should be about the first group of people "Christians" should be be bringing inside, not the last.

TiernanA Chritian's group is not "theirs" by a much larger perspective its Christ's group. And although I'm a fallen Catoleigh I do remember that Christ professed a message of "inclusion" amongst all peoples. This particular group of Christians are big fat fkg hypocrites. Hooray for the Atheists on calling their asses on it.

Not if they are douchebags trying to make trouble or even a "point". It is obvious that they were trying to make trouble. We don't invite al-quaeda into the Pentagon.queencitybuckeye;1525406 wrote:Atheists should be about the first group of people "Christians" should be be bringing inside, not the last. -

And apparently in 2013 we still have people believing that a ghost in the sky created everything and sent his own son to the world to free our sins. Sounds logical.Manhattan Buckeye;1525358 wrote:^^^
Is it that difficult in life to be normal and not be a jerk to others, and enjoy the right to freedom of association with people with similar viewpoints? Apparently in 2013 America it is.
As far as the issue at hand, I think its hilarious that Christians preach "Only god can judge" and then judge themselves. But that's normal for any religious cult to be hypocritical and void of logic and reason. -

HOF-level terrible analogy. Atheists are not considered the "enemy" by real Christians. Attempting to make a point should be combated by making a point, not exclusion.Manhattan Buckeye;1525410 wrote:Not if they are douchebags trying to make trouble or even a "point". Your timeline is off, it happened in 2008 and 2012. -

These atheists are...they aren't people that are questioning their own beliefs, or are interested in learning more about the faiths of others. They are professional assholes. They are to atheists as to the Westboro Church (or whatever they call themselves) are to Christians. They are just trying to make trouble.queencitybuckeye;1525413 wrote:HOF-level terrible analogy. They are jerks, and that was a perfect analogy. -

Do you have actual evidence of this, as nothing that remotely supports that characterization has been posted or linked to in this thread, or are you simply saying it because it fits the opinion you've landed on?Manhattan Buckeye;1525418 wrote:These atheists are...they aren't people that are questioning their own beliefs, or are interested in learning more about the faiths of others. Manhattan BuckeyeThen why did they bother to try to join a group that doesn't want them - and make a fuss about it?
It seems like most civil people would just start their own group and if they agree with the cause will do something similar - this is what normal people do.
How many analogies must I make? I'm not Catholic or Jewish and even though I agree with many of their charitable contributions I don't expect them to allow me to join in because I support their cause.
That is the high road response. -
Manhattan BuckeyeAnd the middle to low road response - how douchey does someone have to be to belong to a group calling themselves the upstate atheists knowing it is antagonistic? What is the gain in that? Do they have a goal, or mission statement?

They wanted to help a group of people that Christians decided they were going to help. In the same way your argument is the definition of being a little bitch?

Manhattan BuckeyeYou can't be this stupid. My argument is that private organizations can do what they want and live by their rules, even if we find them odious (because many groups might find other viewpoints similarly odious). Perhaps I should move back to 1776 when we had this type of point of view. You know, American?
Mods, take this to the politics board, apparently we really are in a strange world right now when the Constitution doesn't matter. -

Quite the opposite. If the Great Commission is to, "...go and make disciples of all nations..." then those who are not Christians are the people to be sought out and shared the Gospel with.queencitybuckeye;1525413 wrote:... Atheists are not considered the "enemy" by real Christians. ...
