I am all for gay rights, but churches should not be FORCED to allow same sex marriages. They shouldn't be forced to marry anyone (straight or gay) if they choose not to. They are a private organization.Commander of Awesome;1485522 wrote:No it's not. It's a bunch a BS. And you're a bigot if you honestly believe this. Get with the freakin program already. You continue this nonsense talk you'll sound like an old racist in 20 yrs.
Also ETB, as an educator, SMH. You should know better than to think like a dumb fuck back water redneck.
Also any of you "christians" want to have a conversation on this, I'm all ears. Would love to pwn you guys with your own BS bible quotes.
Edit: using the bigot card is a fail cop out argument. Hope this helps. -

I can't believe people still maintain a marriage is between a man and a woman.
I can't believe that people still believe smoking marijuana should be criminalized.
The stuff in these posts is what I agree with the most on this thread (well, other than Pick6 not being surprised by anything...I was reading this (http://thoughtcatalog.com/2013/the-35-best-times-someone-on-facebook-thought-the-onion-was-real/) and it really shows how fucking dumb people can be).friendfromlowry;1485362 wrote:I can't believe people get so worked up over things that have zero concern with them. Example being the post-Trayvon Martin ruling, and you had people bitching and moaning on the internet as well committing actual violence on the streets. If I recall, when they were ruling on Michael Jackson years ago, people were outside the courthouse celebrating. Who gives a fuck. Get a life.
People all concerned about gays marrying seem to just want to use religion as an excuse to practice bigotry. Which, I guess shouldn't be a surprise since, through time, that's been one of the primary uses of religion, but still...
People who think marijuana is so bad it should be outlawed or restricted (despite its potential use in the medical field) and the fact that regardless of their potential negative effects, tobacco and alcohol are very legal are idiots who apparently are stuck in the Reefer Madness mindset.
And as for the people getting hilariously invested in things like Trayvon and other "flavor-of-the-month" news articles, all I can do is laugh. This site's Trayvon case thread was one of the best things ever. You have a random kid shot by a random man in a random neighborhood in a random state which gets blown out of proportion by the media and people here and everywhere else run with that and act like this is some super-important, riveting, all-encompassing event that will determine the future of the world. -

Religion is by nature discriminatory, otherwise I could just walk in to a Mosque and say I'm Muslim, or go to a Synagogue and declare myself Jewish. That isn't "bigotry", nor is any religion that acts on its own beliefs with respect to the actions they don't agree with bigotry.

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of drugs that have medical benefits and used in the medical field that are federally controlled substances, and justifiably so.Heretic;1485652 wrote: People who think marijuana is so bad it should be outlawed or restricted (despite its potential use in the medical field)
I get what you are saying, but claiming marijuana should be unrestricted because it has medical applications really isn't much of an argument for legalization. -

Spontaneous Generation is something I was wondering about as well. While I'm a believer that God doesn't exist, I still had questions about where the universe came froml. I came across a lecture by Lawrence Krauss, "A Universe from Nothing". If you're honestly interested in another answer other than God I would seek it out, (he also wrote a book by the same title). It helped answer some of the questions from a scientific background. If you're a firm believer it may not answer all of your questions, but it does help answer your spontaneous generation question.cruiser_96;1485584 wrote:That's not "spontaneous generation" at all. That is a creator creating something. Much like TW bench I'm sitting on is a creation and was created by someone or something. Much like the phone I'm typing on was created and had a creator. Much like the building I'm in was created and had a creator. As a matter of fact, as I sit here typing, I'm trying to come up with something that is currently in existence but yet did not have a creator. Heck, even that paperweight was created by someone. Why is it so illogical to consider that these items are any less different than me? Than you? They are here. I am here. The were created by someone or something, but I just happened????? Come on now.

I disagree. If you're going to marry people in your church, you should have to marry anyone, schedule aside, regardless of sexual orientation. I read O-Trap's post and I disagree. To me it's not any different than a minority getting refused service at a restaurant.like_that;1485651 wrote:I am all for gay rights, but churches should not be FORCED to allow same sex marriages. TiernanShould we really be "forcing" churches to do anything? I'm not a church guy but respect their right (as misguided as it maybe...) to not allow gays to marry in their church.
The bigger question that nobody seems to be asking and is completely lost on me is.. Why do gay people want to marry in a church that doesn't want them? If gays were smart they would start a Gay American Church and reap the benefits of all that includes -

Those type of churches already exist. -

Let's say someone grew up going to that church, was confirmed in that church, met their partner at the church, their parents got married there and were involved in the church their entire life. They've probably struggled with being gay while growing up, listened to their pastor preach about forgiveness and understanding. Then ask to get married there and are told no. Probably would be devastating. They'd want to get married there because that church was important and significant in their life.Tiernan;1485687 wrote:Should we really be "forcing" churches to do anything? Yeah, that was me getting ready to run out the door and pounding out some quick thought without really thinking it through. I think for me, the big thing is that, except in certain states, it's completely illegal when you consider that far worse substances are legal in a restricted prescription form (like Oxycontin, for the worst example). Be a lot easier for someone to overdo that and really fuck up their life than it would be with marijuana, but because one is funded by big pharm and can't be easily produced by any regular guy, it's legal. It's just so nonsensical and non-logical how stuff like this happens. Can't watch TV for more than 30 minutes without hitting a commercial talking about some pill for dick-hardening or depression or cholesterol or whatever that has 500 dangerous side effects...but the naturally-grown plant is what's illegal.gut;1485657 wrote:There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of drugs that have medical benefits and used in the medical field that are federally controlled substances, and justifiably so.

I used bigotry because, to me, people use their religion as a basis for their own bigotry. I've read about people, for example, using the whole part of how one of Noah's kids looked in on him all embarrassingly drunk and having his entire lineage condemned to serve as a justification for slavery. Things like that, where there's no real justification in the bible for a belief and where the religion itself isn't bigoted, but bigoted people read between lines to justify their beliefs with religion.Manhattan Buckeye;1485653 wrote:"People all concerned about gays marrying seem to just want to use religion as an excuse to practice bigotry. Kind of like the people who use the anti-homosexuality lines in Leviticus to justify their beliefs...while completely ignoring the hordes of other commands in that book which are completely archaic laws of that time and have no meaning in today's world. -
