Macro counting is bad once you get the hang of it. After awhile you have a pretty good idea of the macros without even counting. I think everyone should do it at some point so they learn what is actually going in their bodies.

Lately I've been eating a pound of pasta every two days, on top of a couple sandwiches every day for lunch. Low carb would kill me.

Sugar and grains are addictive, takes a few days to get off the junk like detoxing.

Not junk for me. I use them to maintain weight at around 180. The only junk I eat is two donuts on Fridays, and beer.

People say the same thing about intermittent fasting. OMG I'D DIE WITHOUT BREAKFAST!11!1!!

The human body is complex. It will change and adapt if you will it to.

I've gone on and off with IMF. The scientific research on if it actually works is very mixed (if not negative depending on how you look at it). At the end of the day there’s no strong evidence that intermittent fasting will help you lose fat without also eating fewer calories than you burn. But I use it as a way to consume less total calories when needed.

I do IMF a different way for a different reason. I'll fast, then feast, black coffee for breakfast, then a huge lunch and huge dinner in a 6-8 hour window. I find it resets the system, gives the digestive system a break. I also find my workouts on a small fast are more effective. I've also experimented with a 40-42 hour fast on bone broth. I know a can skip a meal and don't have to resort to fast food in a panic. Hunger pains are a minimum once your body reacts to a fast or IMF. If you told me this a few years ago, I would have thought it bizarre.

Ive been in the fasting game for quite awhile and really like it. It allows one to still be able to eat and enjoy what they want and less likely going over their calories for a day. By skipping breakfast and a light lunch one can have a substantial dinner and still be at or below their maintenance for the day.

After a few days you really start to not miss eating breakfast. When I am on my game I cannot stomach eating all three meals and when I get around people who do it seems like they are going from one big meal to another to another.

Jury is still out on fasting but have seen a lot of positives out of it personally.

There are a lot of medical journals suggesting it speeds up metabolism, lowers insulin sensitivity, improves immune system, etc.

Now that it has become a "trendy" diet (more trendy than 5 years ago at least), a lot of people think it's some get fast life hack to get in better shape. You still have to focus on calories in/out, then macros, and then the fasting. There is a hierarchy of importance and a lot of people who initially get into IF think the fasting is the most important aspect of the diet.

Also, I am just happy more and more people are starting to realize fasting isn't bad for you.

I have found myself getting into less "omg that's terrible, your body will go into starvation mode!!" arguments than before.

Been in the weightroom 2-3x per week since mid-June. Only missed a week once. Feels good to be back. Playing soccer again, 2-3x per week. That feels even better, my one time to really get some cardio in because cardio sucks.

Plus side, I've completely cut out pop for the last 5 weeks, maybe 6? No caffeine. No diet pop. No Dr. Pepper. The first week was awful, but it's fine now.

These are the main benefits, from what I've seen. Not weight/fat loss. I've mentioned before that I'm a big eater, and not a fan of the "six small meals to fuel the metabolic fire" bullshit. If I need to take in 4000 calories (to maintain), I'd rather eat two 2000 calorie meals than six 600+ calorie meals, left hungry.

That logic applies to grain eaters who have that grain turn to sugar and need to keep eating to feel satiated.

This fasting conversation is fascinating. Doing some more reading about it. Let me ask this question. Would you consider a 160 calorie, milk based protein drink as food?

For example, let's say I want to do a fast for 24 hours after eating dinner on Monday. Would a 160 calorie (30g protein) drink mess that up? I typically eat dinner around 7 PM and don't eat again. I skip breakfast and then around 1 PM drink this Protein Plus drink. So I get a full 16 hour fast in most days but question is whether or not that drink would be considered food or not.

Yes, but you may get others to say no.

That argument goes deep In the fasting community. Some plans allow 100 calories as not breaking it, some subdcribe to the zero calories in the window.

Personally, I believe if you need that 100 to 160 to get you through then it is still better than devouring what one normally woild for breakfast breakfast a late morning snack. Do you eat a lunch or just that protein?

Whether or not I breaks it I would not worry if that 160 allows you to get through the day

For me, anything other than water or coffee w/ cream/sugar is breaking the fast.

IMO you're not going to find a more effective method for recomping your body in terms of ease and length of time.

Yes. My suggestion, if you want to "feed" your muscles, without breaking the fast, would be to get a good BCAA (like SciVation Xtend, I use Vitamin Shoppe's brand) to sip on until you break the fast. Not taking in calories but you're feeding your muscles.

See, I don't get that. Unless there's a typo there, putting cream & sugar in coffee is breaking the fast. I've always heard water, tea or black coffee and BCAA's are fine.

I'm not worried about 15-30 cals. It's insignificant. I don't even use sugar.

I drink black coffee myself. I was more so agreeing a 160 calorie drink would break the fast. I can see the argument for a splash of skim milk.

Agree with this, and the last thing you should do to break a fast is sugar.

It is break in it, no doubt.

Some followers say they allow it but by rule anything woth it breaks it
