Workout/Lifting Thread and Health Thread

    Interesting, never heard of it.

I think all businesses should serve whoever they please to serve. It still doesn't change the fact that PF is garbage [emoji23].

Fwiw, I clown on crossfit all the time, but if you go and get results, do your thing.

Oy, what the fuck is happening to this thread. You're seriously letting Sleeper threadshit?

Not that anyone with any significant lifting experience would want to train there but it's still limiting who they will allow to join their gym.
I think "lunk" is more a reference to behavior, not to the person who is an advanced builder. They don't want d-bags in there making anyone feel uncomfortable. Yes, they are aiming to get the beginner in there and provide enough encouragement to keep them coming back to get into shape. As long as you aren't a d-bag, bodybuilders would be welcome there if they so desired. I do agree the pizza is a pretty crazy gimmick.

So do I. I'll always take the people who commit to health over the people who are lazy sacks.

Who is this sleeper dude? Apparently he's not well liked. I wish a mod could look at my IP or something and confirm that I'm not him. I don't want y'all thinkin' I'm a doosh from the get go...

Blink has a similar marketing plan, "Every Body Happy"

Also super cheap, super slammed at prime hours.

I'm not sure who people think is sleeper in this thread, but Slyde-bi is a legit new member.

Also, I do crossfit so SUE ME.

    OK...back on track:

Looking to do some weight training for the purpose of weight loss. Should I be doing lighter weight with more reps? Or try to max out weight and let the muscles burn and rebuild? I'll obviously mix in cardio, but I'm not sure about the former. I always thought toning was better for weight loss...?

How much are we talking (weight loss goal)?

    Ideally? 80.

    Realistically? 60

When I lost all of my weight I didn't really lift at all. I ate very well and walked, a lot. I didn't start weight training until I had lost most of the weight I wanted to lose.

Here's a Muay Thai update: didn't start! Waiting until September, my friend who's joining with me is still locked into ridiculous Equinox.

I did do some drills and sparred lightly last week with a few friends. I'm very not ready.

There was a local place that used to be in business that had beer, pizza, wings, etc and you could charge it to your account. It was...glorious!

It was a fantastic place for the longest time until it was flooded. Twice.

Been getting in some pretty good workouts and making some fantastic progress. 'll old sucks and i gotta work twice as hard to keep up with those half my age. Injuries pop up and linger but if You are diligent in stretching it really helps

For a big man, my first recommendation would be to make the treadmill your friend and walk like a mofo. Depending on your lifting experience, shape you're in (cardio-wise....huffing & puffing after a little activity or able to handle lifts with little effort) I'd work my way up to heavier weights (eventually). Lifting heavier is going to burn more fat but not necessarily be your cure all for weight loss.

Yep. Hitting the same body part, for me, twice a week is now out of the question. I could do it but with all of the pressing movements my front delts would be shot. Gotta train smarter as you get older.

I'm used to walking. Haven't done it in a while, but it will definitely come back to me. Used to walk on treadmill for 45-60min on 4.5 speed or higher. Aside from chafing, not an issue. Glide is my friend now :)

Regarding lifting...very little experience. One restriction is that my thumb/left wrist has issues. If I turn it wrong while golfing it's hard to come through the ball. I know it will be an issue supporting heavier weight.

Walking will be the key, along with healthy eating (as Justin mentioned).

Yep, when I lost all my weight (230 down to ~165 at one point) it was a total eating lifestyle change. Salads, walking a ton, elliptical, etc.. Eating healthy was key.

And incline is your friend on the treadmill whether it's walking or running. Ramps up the intensity. Right now I start at 7 % and go up from there. Great way to maximize in much less time
  • BR1986FB
Slyde-bi....as far as your wrist issues, get a wrist brace or wrist wraps for pressing movements. When you get acclimated to lifting, use a thumbless grip (also for pressing movements) but make sure you have a spotter.
  • justincredible
I bought something very similar to this when I was having wrist issues a few years ago and it helped immensely.

If you really want to accelerate the weight loss, reign in the carbs significantly. I wouldn't necessarily recommend going keto but pretty damn close.
