BR1986FBThread has been kinda dead. How's everyones summer workouts been going? Any other successes besides jmog?
-
AutomatikI got instructed to hold up on the free weights from my physical therapist.
Lots of sprints and meh workouts. I'm lean, but weak. Also, increased beer drinking, because summer. -

Going well. The month of July got me off track diet wise with a lot of traveling, but I'm back on track.BR1986FB;1642432 wrote:Thread has been kinda dead. How's everyones summer workouts been going? Any other successes besides jmog?
You're probably not a fan of this, but I'm gonna start training in October for my first marathon. A marathon is something I want to check off my bucket list, I figured I might as well do it when I'm still young. -
AutomatikA marathon would kill me. Have you done a half before?

Yeah, I have done two of them. Pretty good pace for both. My legs felt like shit after, but I think that's because I ran a lot faster than I should have. I plan to to run at a much slower and steady pace for a marathon.Automatik;1642435 wrote:A marathon would kill me. Have you done a half before? -

AutomatikNo pushups. But I'm working back to pullups and being able to hang from a bar. I'm still very timid with my writs, it's very annoying.
Leg workouts are great though, thats about all I can go hard at. -

ernest_t_bassMy summer workouts have been shit. I've sat on my ass A LOT, and have drank a ton of beer. I'm ready for school to start, and I will be hitting heavy lifting 3 days a week, and might try to do P90X Ab Ripper X on each of those days as well. Dude I workout with wants to do Yoga at the local fitness place one of our off days. What are your thoughts on Yoga?
-
BR1986FB
Do it! I can't speak enough on the positives of yoga. People may call you a "*****", etc. but it will help your flexibility immensely and is a helluva workout. It's usually time consuming as Hell & boring though.ernest_t_bass;1642444 wrote:Dude I workout with wants to do Yoga at the local fitness place one of our off days. What are your thoughts on Yoga? -

Goodluck on the marathon. Training is brutal. I would like to try one but I see too many people I know get injured in training. I have done a few half's and enjoy them so I will stick with them.like_that;1642434 wrote:Going well. The month of July got me off track diet wise with a lot of traveling, but I'm back on track.

Do you use any sort of GPS when you run? On my last half I set the pace alerts to keep me within range the whole race and get a PR. -

If I could describe my current diet/workout in one word it would be half-assed. It's tough to get in a groove right now. It was easy as hell when I lived alone. I now have roommates and it's summer, so lots of distractions.
Right now I'm just trying to clean up the diet and still get back to working out with a bit more intensity, still dealing with injuries. I'm considering giving the UD2 a try after summer. -

Summer's always rough for me because I'm always out with friends and partying. But I've only gained a couple pounds, so I must have set a good enough base to where working out is in my blood/brain now, so I'm not actually taking steps back, just more or less spinning in neutral. But as Eddard Stark says, WINTER IS COMING. And that's when I can really make a bit of ground.BR1986FB;1642432 wrote:Thread has been kinda dead. How's everyones summer workouts been going? Back when I was in high school, I did 3 half-marathons. I was proud as fuck to run the whole thing the third time. The tough part is pacing, particularly since you're never sure how to run it because any regular running you do (assuming you're a normal person whose idea of a longer run is 3-6 miles) is going to be a far faster pace than you should there. The first one I did, when I got to the 10K (6.2 miles) mark, I realized my time was a bit faster than my (to that point) fastest 10K I'd done before. By 8 miles, I was dead and for the last two, I'd alternate between walking and painfully jogging at a pace that couldn't have been faster than a walk.like_that;1642436 wrote:Yeah, I have done two of them. Needless to say, I never seriously thought about stepping up to the full 26.2. -

Mr Heretic...if you look to keep doing them I would suggest a GPS watch. For races and the PT test I set it to beep if my pace is too fast, or slow. You put the pace numbers in for the range you want to and knw you can stay in. For my last HM I wanted to PR so i set the pace to be about 5 seconds faster. I got stronger and stronger as the race went on and actually did negative splits the last 5 miles which I couldnt believe. It really helps keep the pace. Early on it seems like you are at a snail's pace but when you start to pick people off at the midway point and beyond ya feel pretty proud!Heretic;1642471 wrote:Summer's always rough for me because I'm always out with friends and partying. Lord, it was over 20 years ago when I did one, but I know what you mean. When I finally did it right, I was picking off people right and left from the 6-10 mile zone. And then doing everything I could to hold on to a running pace the final 3 or so. Was not fun, but I endured, and that's all that mattered to me!thavoice;1642475 wrote:Mr Heretic...if you look to keep doing them I would suggest a GPS watch. Yeah that was my issue too. I started the race off at a 5:50 pace lol. Then averaged most of the race at 6:40,but by mile 8 it slowly went up. I think by mile 12 I was at 7:30, and I don't even know what it was on the last mile, but I just wanted to finish. I finished the race at 1:32 the first time, and pretty much the same story with the 2nd one where i finished at 1:36. I wanted to break 1:30, and I trained to break 1:30, but I just suck at this pacing thing.Heretic;1642471 wrote:Summer's always rough for me because I'm always out with friends and partying. Nice half marathon run. A recommendation for the pacing - treat it like any other normal long run. Don't warm up and stretch a lot before the start of the half marathon. Purposely run the first couple miles extra slow.like_that;1642488 wrote:Yeah that was my issue too. I started the race off at a 5:50 pace lol. Break the race into two parts. Focus running the second half (or last 10k depending how the course is marked) faster than the first six miles.
Good luck. Whats your mileage plan? How many months you giving yourself preparation ?like_that;1642434 wrote: You're probably not a fan of this, but I'm gonna start training in October for my first marathon.
