Will Zimmerman get a fair trial in the Travon Martin case?
-
gutShe's exactly the type I picture eggin' TM on "beat his ass, Travon!".
IMO, TM didn't like Zimmerman eyeballing him and so he decided he was going to teach him a lesson, teach him to respect. -

Belly35If I was Martin lawyer I recall his girl friend / (friend that a girl) every other day. Wow! .. She couldn't read what she wrote to the police because she did write it nor can she read... Who wrote the report she submitted

Manhattan BuckeyeThat girl's testimony was devastating to the prosecution. And it didn't do much to help out the reputation of our country's efforts to educate young people. Everything about it was horrible. The prosecutors should have prepped her more, or not even put her on the stand.
-
gutEhhh, I just don't think the prosecution has anything else, really.
And she wasn't "devastating" to their case. They shot a blank. She's not credible, but let's not pretend her testimony somehow helped Zimmerman in a direct way.
The DA is basically no closer to proving "beyond a reasonable doubt" than when the trial started. Nothing more, nothing less. -
TedShecklerSo, another one of the prosecutor's witnesses makes the defense's day easy. This eye witness to the event says he saw TM on top of GZ and TM was beating him and it was GZ that was yelling for help.
What are the prosecutors thinking putting these witnesses on the stand? -
RedRider1When does Keenan Thompson play this girl in a skit on SNL?

Obviously Zimmerman is a student of Royce Gracie. Zimmerman planned and plotted to shoot TM after he had punched himself out.TedSheckler;1465033 wrote:This eye witness to the event says he saw TM on top of GZ ...
On a more serious note, maybe the DA is intent to prove to everyone why they originally had no intention of pursuing charges in the first place. -

Remember, Zimmerman wasn't even going to be charged. Then it became political. Not sure how that is the DA's fault.ccrunner609;1465208 wrote: When people riot after the verdict and people get hurt, someone in the DA's office should be responsible for that. -

Actually wasn't the original DA fired/replaced? Maybe just the police chief.ccrunner609;1465215 wrote:The DA was who after 2 weeks of political and racial pressure went and got GZ.
Either way, it's a political position. When even Washington is weighing in I'm not going to blame the DA for the fallout. -

Yup. When the president comes out and says if he had a son, he'd be like TM. What's a DA to do?gut;1465216 wrote: Either way, it's a political position. When even Washington is weighing in I'm not going to blame the DA for the fallout. -

Not charge him with something that the evidence doesn't support. That was the big mistake. It should have been a lesser charge.TedSheckler;1465261 wrote:Yup. When the president comes out and says if he had a son, he'd be like TM. What's a DA to do? -

Easier said than done. Even 2nd degree or involuntary was going to be a tough hill to climb (likely why Zimmerman was overcharged - at least go down swinging). Simple fact is, politically a lesser charge would have provoked outrage.Fly4Fun;1465276 wrote:Not charge him with something that the evidence doesn't support. That was the big mistake. One of his family members could have gone to the Prosecutor's Office and asked them to open an investigation to see if charges should be filed. There are more avenues then arrests.ccrunner609;1465215 wrote:The DA was who after 2 weeks of political and racial pressure went and got GZ. The police never arrested him so the case wouldnt of been brought to the DA's office in that manner. . -
Fab1bThe aftermath of that fat sloppy ho's testimony is so laughable. Now instead of her not being able to read cursive (though I question if she can actually read at all) and getting blasted for it, its now time for cursive to die:

WTF is wrong with society? -
Fab1bya he also said the "lighter skinned guy was on bottom and was either wearing red or white (GZ was wearing red)" labeled it a MMA style fight with TM (darker clothing on top, TM was wearing the dark hoodie) on top "ground and pounding" his words. He stated he went inside to call 911 then heard the shot.

sherm03This is a pretty tough case for me to call right now. Too many questions out there for both sides. But I guess, if there's any type of question in the state's case...he should walk.
Someone brought up a good point this week at work. GZ could have come across TM, and provoked him into the fight...only to give him the advantage knowing that this skinny kid isn't going to hurt him too much so that he could claim self defense when he shot him. But that's a lot of thought to put into something that is happening spur of the moment.
Am I correct that someone testified that GZ did MMA training three days a week? That raises even more questions for me on how TM was even able to get on top of him to "ground and pound" him.
But a lot of these witnesses have been absolutely horrible for the prosecution. I don't know how they can find him guilty unless something else crazy comes up. -
Fab1bI did read today that he was taking those lessons 3 times a week (but how much did he know, for how long, etc...) Sherm but look at him and look at the most the current photos of TM, not the lil 11 year old they keep showing photos of. Based on looks I'd lay down $$ that TM takes GZ in hand to hand combat. Now of course size and looks don't mean anything really and as a wrestler I most certainly know that.
I think GZ was over zealous but I also think TM had opportunity to just walk home or even run away. I do think TM jumped GZ and was getting the best of GZ so GZ shot him. I don't ever think it was murder, manslaughter possibly but no way murder. However I don't think anything less than Murder 2 is on the table right, so because of the "over charging" I think GZ walks! -
gutWell, that was the old Royce Gracie MMA style to fight from your back
But just because he was taking "lessons" doesn't mean he was any good, especially if he's only been at it a few months or even few years. Even with a wrestling or MMA backgroud, a street fight is still an entirely different ball game.
