Wrestling is being eliminated from the Olympics

Lol...yeah. I remember how once, my senior year, it was one of those easy day-before-invitational practices and the coaches divided us into teams for pick-up basketball games. We had a fairly shitty bball team (something like 7-14 after going one-and-out in the playoffs), but I doubt that even the benchwarmers on that shitty team would have been overly concerned about their status if their coaches walked in and watched us. And I'm very sure those coaches would not have been thinking, "Man, I'd have a district championship trophy if I could replace half my team with these guys!" Probably more like: "Man, so that's what practice looks like for those really bad 0-20 teams!" or something like that.friendfromlowry;1388076 wrote:Just curious how wrestling ruins the quality of HS bball? -

TedShecklerGolf is a better sport for the Olympics anyways. Glad it's getting replaced. No more men in tight spandex and puffy ears.
-
FatHobbitI don't know why I just thought of this, but that would really suck if you were training for the next Olympics and got this news.

They should start training MMA and make some money with their skills.FatHobbit;1388302 wrote:I don't know why I just thought of this, but that would really suck if you were training for the next Olympics and got this news. -

It's funny how I got a basement ban for calling him a dramatic little girl, yet we now have 5 pages of ted_failker shitting on this thread, and nothing has been done. Great consistency!Commander of Awesome;1388307 wrote:We get it, you don't like wrasslin'. Move on. Mods, can we get a thread ban here? F4F would have bant me to the basement by now for this. -

I read an article on Twitter (cited below) that the guys training for 2020 may not even be in high school yet. At least the 2016 Olympics will still have wrestling, right? The article also suggests that the IOC was bribed to keep less popular sports in the Olympics.FatHobbit;1388302 wrote:I don't know why I just thought of this, but that would really suck if you were training for the next Olympics and got this news.
Just a thought, and maybe Like_that can confirm (as I'm too lazy to look it up) but was wrestling something America dominated? Could this be a small-scale effort to shift results?
Regardless, NBC took a shit on the Olympics last summer when they tape delayed all the popular results for their own special little broadcast later, even though you basically had to avoid Facebook, Twitter, the internet, the news, ordinary conversation with another human, etc. to not have the results spoiled for you.

Far from it. It wasn't until the mid 80's where the USA won their first greco gold medal, and they haven't won many since then. They do have the most freestyle medals, however that number is a little distorted as the soviet union took away many great wrestlers from the field. Now instead of worrying about one soviet wrestler, they have to deal with an abundance of former soviet nations. I believe reading out of all the olympic sports, wrestling distributed the most medals to the most countries.friendfromlowry;1388567 wrote:I read an article on Twitter (cited below) that the guys training for 2020 may not even be in high school yet.
