I had something like this happen to me. I was hitting my driver well, but my irons were struggling. I changed my swing on my irons and started hitting them really well, enough to where I had to rethink my club choices on yardages, however, my Drive started to struggle. I got a tip from a friend that plays college golf. He had me tuck my back elbow in and flatten out my backswing a little bit. It really helped to get my drives more consistently straight.Terry_Tate;1442861 wrote:Question for the swing experts on here. I have made a stance adjustment this year(straightening my back) and have a much better feel and consistency to my swing this year, and am killing my irons, but my 3 wood and driver have developed a decent slice and have weak distance. I feel like my irons have good distance (PW-135, 9-145, 8-155, 7-165, 6-180) without trying to murder the ball (hit an 8-iron 170 when trying to murder it) and hit them dead straight but can't get my woods straight or have good distance. I've tried stance, where I'm teeing the ball, hips, hands, and can't seem to fix it. The only thing that makes sense now is that I have a regular shaft on both and maybe need a stiff shaft since my swing has improved and is faster. Does that seem possible? I'm completely lost as to why I can't hit a good tee shot anymore.
Edit: I'm not going to go out and buy a driver with a stiff flex as I can borrow one from a few of my friends and test it out, but can't play until probably Sunday and wanted to see if my thought process made sense. -

Classyposter58:laugh:Shot the worst 40 of my life today. Hit it like crap off the tee, had to use 3 wood all day and even that wasn't overly pretty. Yet had only 12 putts, absolutely sank everything as I had 6 one putts including 3 20 footers that I buried home

So do 80% of the guys out clogging up the course. -
xKoToVxSyNdRoMeI can clog up a course with the best of them.
Seriously though, I have improved a considerable amount over the last few years but I am using a simple set of clubs I got from Wal-Mart and I have been starting to think about a new set. How much difference would a new driver make in terms of distance and how much overall would better clubs matter? -
Midstate01I was in the mid 80s when I was playing 4 times a week in mississippi. Now ive played 5 times in 2 1/2 years in hawaii and shot 102 Saturday. Everything felt wrong...because it was.
I wish I had more time to golf here. -

I like to get out and tee off about 7:45 am and walk 18 and be back in my car before 10:00......hope this helps -

Cool pic of a short par 3 on the base course along the water. -

Better clubs help but I have something I like to go by...I'm not buying $700 clubs for my $14 swing. Just out of high school I got down to a 1.5 handicap (easy course) with Golden Bear clubs.....My next set of clubs were much nicer but my handicap was 5-6 as I just didn't get out nearly as much and didn't work on all parts of my game with extra practice......now I have even nicer clubs and my handicap is around 8-10 as I just don't get out much and that has just annihilated my iron game.
If you like your clubs....keep them and work on your shots around and on the green, that's where the scoring is. -
bases_loadedYou can get last years models or two years ago models for like half price. Go to Dicks and hit some clubs then go on the golf warehouse or rock bottom golf if you want a new set or ebay for used. Beware of knock offs on eBay though.

Have you ever played any of the OBX courses? -
ZWICK 4 PREZ
No I've only been there once and didn't golf. I've only golfed in the Wilmington area other than North Mytle/Calabash and Pinehurst. Wilmington would be a drive from OBX.wildcats20;1443668 wrote:Have you ever played any of the OBX courses? -

Anyone here ever play at Delphos? Since I'm from there it is generally the place I play most. It seems like it would be very easy for people who play often. Wondering how it stacks up with other courses. -

Ha good one.Tiernan;1443353 wrote:Whadya have on the windmill hole?
As for course clogging, this is why you play the more expensive ones or play on a weekday morning if you can. I walk all the time and fly through people that are on carts, may take a minute or two to walk to the ball but when you're only taking 80 shots a round it's not bad -
Classyposter58Shot 78 today at Red Hawk in Findlay. Wedges and putter were great, holed out from 100 and then proceeded to whip my club and hat in the air like I just hit a buzzer beater. Never a bad feeling writing down 3 on a 5. That almost got topped as shot of the day by my Dad who from 160 out on #18 put it 4 inches from the hole.
That seriously woulda been epic and I know I'll get cool story bro'd but he plays Hidden Hills and Chippewa all the time and is usually around 43-46 on 9, so for him to go 39 on the back at Red Hawk is nuts. I will admit though the greens were softer and slower than I have ever played them, could just do whatever I wanted around them -
TiernanShot 79 on the new Cols Rec / Airport course. Patchy grass in many places and lousey yard markings (no electronics yet). For the weekend price of $38 this is a rip-off right now.

bases_loadedPlayed a best ball match with my dad against two other guys. I shot 84 but chipped in for birdie on two holes that my dad bogeyed or doubled. We finished at 69. The other two guys were pretty happy about the chip in birds ha.

raiderbuckPlayed at The Highlands of Elgin, in Elgin, IL this past saturday (Ranked #1 Muni in Illinois, #7 in America. Also apparently ranked in top 15 as a Best New Course by Golf Magazine?). Anyway...it was fantastic. I played like crap, but that's because I've only been out one other time this year. Not a terribly difficult course, but it was challenging enough.
The GPS systems in the carts were pretty cool as well. Gives you all the normal pin distance readings, but includes speed of play timer and detailed info about distances to bunkers and hazards. First time I've seen that. Pretty cool. -
ZWICK 4 PREZI've been put in charge of our yearly golf trip to Myrtle with the recent passing of our old orgaziner. I've been wanting to change the venue to Pinehurst for a few years now. I think the courses are overall nicer. There's not as much to do outside of golf, but that is what you're there for.
Yay or nay on the move to Pinehurst?
