  While I typically don't agree with punishing those that are innocent, the whole program is flawed. There is too much emphasis put on the program and people put way too much value on it. A year off in attempt to get the town and the school to shift their focus to what is really important is well worth it IMO.
  
  Also, I feel that anyone who has enabled a high school football program to get bigger than the well being of kids should be held responsible in some fashion.

  I am just playing the other side for the sake of discussion but if there are even 10-15 kids on that team that were looking forward to playing football their whole life why should they be punished for others?
  
  One year off in that town will not do anything but make it go even crazier the following year. Nothing wrong with crazy HS fans until laws start getting broken.

  You know I would say it's a good lesson to learn. It's a lesson that the welfare of a human being is not more important than a game and if you disregard that welfare, the game is taken away.

  Completely disagree. The crazy HS fans created this situation with their undying love for the football team and the emphasis that is put on it.

  Because life isn't fair? People wonder why young adults are spoiled or whatever these days, yet parents keep insisting on making sure everything is "fair" for little Johnny or Suzie, but unfortunately its not the way the world works.

  Of all the things in the world they could be doing...this does not seem so bad. Obviously, there are places all over Ohio that are crazy HS fans but don't cover up crimes. That is all I am saying.

  I don't disagree with you. But is the majority bad or good on this team? I am not saying that it may not come down to an entire team/school suspension of the football team. Just saying that I would want to make sure that is the cure. Sounds like to me the kids have been coached/supervised by some bad people and that is not a correlation between HS Crazy Fans...

  The fans aren't the ones covering it up. They are just putting so much emphasis on the team and winning that it causes those involved with the team to do the wrong thing.

  No, I am saying that coaches and superintendents may be as much or more of the problem. Fix that and fix the team. Any of the students or people involved in this crime should get the maximum penalty by law. Are you telling me the entire team was involved in this?

  How is it a cop out? You are really out of touch if you think the community's over the top support for the football program has not caused this. The Super is put into place by the school board, the school board is elected by the community. The football boosters provide a ton of money to the athletic programs. If the whole city was up in arms about all of this and wanted them all fired and nothing was happening, I would say you have a point. Problem is they are not. They still stand behind the coach and the program. Why? Because they are fucking crazy.
