After the video's release, local residents and organizations as disparate as Anonymous and the Ohio chapter of the National Organization of Women called for the teen's arrest, further straining relations between residents and officials. Police maintained there was nothing they could do legally. -

Steuby's the main story on Yahoo Sports, or at least was when I posted this.
I just wonder if the "older man in a ratty jacket" mentioned here is Thickthintard. -

The live feed showed a short, fat, bald, stupid-looking older man. Was that Sackashit?Heretic;1404984 wrote:http://sports.yahoo.com/news/highschool--steubenville-rape-trial-divides-ohio-town-052958178.html

...from the Yahoo article. I did not know this....Both will be tried as juveniles, which means even if they receive the maximum punishment, they will be free at age 21.... -

That's was part of the reason anon was outraged. There might have possibly been some backroom deals to ensure they were not tried as adults -

juveniles are rarely if ever tried as adults for first offenses..especially when a case has so much uncertaintygport_tennis;1405013 wrote:That's was part of the reason anon was outraged. There might have possibly been some backroom deals to ensure they were not tried as adults -

First offenses usually aren't rape... -

actually they usually are a serious crime like rape or why would it come up? even so its still a first offense. now if the circumstances were more agregious then maybe.gport_tennis;1405035 wrote:First offenses usually aren't rape... -

Worse than driving a passed out girl around from party to party while people take turns raping her? (I feel like I must have misunderstood what you meant. Either that or you are channeling FWK)Gblock;1405041 wrote: now if the circumstances were more agregious then maybe. -

im not sure that that will be the facts of the case once they come out in trial, but yes there are worse things than that.FatHobbit;1405075 wrote:Worse than driving a passed out girl around from party to party while people take turns raping her? I can agree with that for sure. There is a lot of speculation and rumor going on in this case.
And there are worse things, but I think what has been alleged would be sufficient to not try them as minors.Gblock;1405083 wrote:but yes there are worse things than that. -

me personally, in any case if its your first offense and you made a mistake im willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. teens do a lot of stupid things especially if alcohol is involved. there is plenty of stupidity and blame to go around in this case including parents, the rest of the kids who were there, the two kids charged obvoiusly and to some extent the girl who was assaulted.FatHobbit;1405092 wrote:I can agree with that for sure. if they have had previous run ins or a pattern was established then i can see adult trial
also before i get treated like fwk...im not talkin guilt or innocence here...i dont know all the facts as no one here does. im strictly speaking about whether or not i feel they should be charged as adults and why. -

CNN has one as well with better sound, although so far, all witnesses have declined being recorded.Pick6;1405175 wrote:Here is a live stream if anybody is interested http://www.wtov9.com/videos/news/wtov-live-video/vD4xz/ -
sportchamppsSo if I'm a teen and I murder someone as long as it was my first mistake you think I should only be in prison till I'm 21.

Gblockand the killer had a long line of arrests and still wasnt automatically charged as adult
-
hasbeenAnd you agree with only getting 3.5 years for murder?
Well, don't want to ruin his life. Maybe we can bring the other guy back from the dead the day he's suppose to be 21.

gport_tennisI don't think he is saying he necessarily agrees with it, he's just saying how it is

Id say he agrees with it.gport_tennis;1405258 wrote:I don't think he is saying he necessarily agrees with it, he's just saying how it is -
sportchamppsI don't care about your example. You really think a 16 year old who rapes a girl should spend less time in jail then a adult who gets caught with weed. When your 16 you know the difference between right and wrong and if you decide to do something wrong you should pay the price.

equusI used to work for DYS in a lock-up. I had several kids that were in there for murder. Each one of them was sentenced to be held until 21, because they were adjudicated under the juvenile system. The juvenile system is designed to rehabilitate the offender. The adult sustem is designed to punish the offender. The thought is that a juvenile can be "fixed" to conform with societal demands while they are still able to be molded. Do I agree? Not necessarily. Some of the kids were "unfixable". But the way the system is designed, thats the best we can do for now.
