In the market for a handgun

tk421Are you going to be carrying IWB or OWB? For IWB, the crossbreed type holsters can't be beat. Hickok has a video on crossbreeds, there are tons of different companies making them, basically the same type of deal. Is that XDs you got in .40 or .45?

IWB. And it's a 45. -

As for IWB holsters, I'm going to recommend Theis Holsters. It's a 1 man operation, all hand made. I got a horsehide with Kydex clips. I can carry a Commander size 1911 all day sitting down at work with no issues. Give them a look.

Yea. I love mine. Lifetime warranty, also. He does great work. It took about 2 weeks for him to make mine and for it to be delivered. -
justincredibleThe shop I bought my XDs from now has the 9mm version in stock as of today for $549.

You pay extra but a leather range bag is really nice. Looking at $180.00 for one but worth itjustincredible;1450232 wrote:Another thing I'll need, anyone have any recommendations on range bags? -

My wife would probably shoot me if I dropped $180 on a range bag.Belly35;1451418 wrote:You pay extra but a leather range bag is really nice. Looking at $180.00 for one but worth it -

justincredibleBest cleaning kit?
*EDIT*
Reviews look good on this, I'm assuming this is all I need?

I remember using Hoppe's on my shotgun and rifles back when I was younger and had more opportunity to shoot. -
TedShecklerDon't forget cleaning patches. I also use Q-tips to get into those tiny grooves on the slide and other hard to get to areas.

I started with the same kit ... it has cleaning brushes, patches, lube oil and bore cleaner.Reviews look good on this, I'm assuming this is all I need?
I'm curious about how often everyone disassembles their semi auto handgun for cleaning. My brother in law ...who grew up with guns in West Va. says never to take apart your gun unless something is wrong. On his advice , I usually just clean and lube the readily accessible parts....clean and lube the barrel, the slide, etc., and wipe the outside down. -
TedShecklerI will field strip and clean after ever time I shoot.

get a bore snake, beats all the tiny cloth patches and stuff for the barrel. q-tips or pipe cleaners make things easier.justincredible;1452495 wrote:Best cleaning kit?

Field stripping is all you need to do really. Normally unless i shoot more than 100 rounds i dont worry about cleaning right away.HitsRus;1452605 wrote:I started with the same kit ... it has cleaning brushes, patches, lube oil and bore cleaner.

mcburg93Couple of questions for guys that go to shooting ranges. I was thinking about opening one up on the property my father owns. I have applied for my FFL and if that goes through I think I will do it. My questions are what do you usually pay to shoot? Do most of the ranges have guns you can rent? What ranges should I have indoor? Long range? speed courses? Should I have a skeet range? I only been to one range and it was for long distance. I have been there many times but I cant remember what we paid.

I've only been to a couple, and no outdoor ranges, but I'll still try to give some feedback. Sounds like a great idea to me if you're approved. The ranges I've been to do have rental guns available, as well as ammo to buy. Generally, if you rent a gun you have to buy ammo from the range. I would think, to start out at least, you wouldn't need to offer gun rentals. If it all works out and your around for a while start looking to expand to something like that. I would honestly start out with just an outdoor range and see how that goes. Build a shelter so that people can shoot from under cover if they'd like. The range closest to me is, I think, $16/hr or $10/30 minutes. They offer deals during the week over lunch, too.mcburg93;1456079 wrote:Couple of questions for guys that go to shooting ranges. Reps and thanks for the info. I just called the guy I go to the range with and he said we paid 25. That price was due to it being long range. The place had cameras and monitors at every slot so you could see where you were hitting the target. We were shooting 400 yards so it came in handy. It also had a guy that was in a trench at the other end that would change your targets for you as well. I was thinking going small first might be the best bet. As long as my FFL goes through I think I am going to go ahead with it.justincredible;1456081 wrote:I've only been to a couple, and no outdoor ranges, but I'll still try to give some feedback. Glory Daysnot sure where you are at, but i know its often hard to find public outdoor ranges to shoot rifles. and yeah you should definitely have guns to rent, a lot of people like to shoot the gun they are about to buy. so if you have a good variety to rent, they can see if they like the gun first etc.

The conservation club that I am a member of has public shooting events and we have to carry a $10 million liability policy. Just a thought.mcburg93;1456086 wrote:Reps and thanks for the info. I have my agent checking into it now. The figures he has showed me so far is not to bad. I was actually surprised at the first price he quoted. I figure I will have a big start up but having land and the backstop already built for the long range stuff will help some. I can build the buildings and wire, plumb, and hvacr everything myself so that will save some money as well. I do know the video is going to be a cost I forgot about but think I can install that all myself as well.LJ;1456755 wrote:The conservation club that I am a member of has public shooting events and we have to carry a $10 million liability policy. justincredibleNot handgun related but this seems to be the go-to gun thread currently.
Lots of people crying foul over 30 round mags, trying to ban them (successfully in some states) left and right. Magpul says "fuck you" and releases a 40 round mag.
