Mine always pulls up the little compass pointer when I go to maps, I always thought that denoted when GPS is being used.

By network location do you mean determining location based on IP?

Forgot to tell this story. Game 3 of the NLDS I set my phone on my leg for a second to grab my beer. Phone slips and falls over 7 feet to the next level down. Those familiar with GABP, I was sitting in the first row directly above the Kroger K signs. Luckily it landed in one of those thick recycled cardboard food/drink carriers. Scratched to hell and a nice dent on the top because I don't have a case for it. Took the fall like a champ, though.

I think the iphone "locks" quickly because it relies on network location as opposed to GPS.

    Could be wrong, though.

How is the battery on the S3?
Honestly, i just got it yesterday so i'm not sure since I've been using it a ton just setting everything up. It's gone down pretty fast, but it's because of heavy use. Was downloading a lot of apps and watching a ton of videos cause of the screen.

I'd say the life on it though is average, would probably want to charge it at the end of the day.

Either by IP address (if connected to wifi) or cellular triangulation.

The way Android (appears) to work, is it falls onto IP/cell triangulation to get a decent idea of where you are while GPS tries to pinpoint it. That's why Google Maps will give you a 1000-100m "circle" around you for a few seconds

If it were going off our wifi IP it would have us located in West Chester where our ISP is. I don't think it could go off IP if connected to wifi. Cell triangulation would obviously work, though.

Like most government ideas it started off with good intentions but shortly escalated to absurd.

It was setup to put land lines in poor people's houses so they could call 911 in case of emergency.

    Indeed.

Absolutely zero reason for the government to be handing out cell phone.
