iPhone 4S rumors/discussion/bashing

No, not at all. I fully believe Sprint will get the phone. I just can't see Sprint exclusively getting the phone like the article/rumor states. Exclusively meaning, Sprint gets the iPhone 5 while Verizon and AT&T do not. Perhaps I comprehended the article wrong (wouldn't be the first time), but how else can one interpret exclusively?

I've seen some rumors that Apple will be investing in Sprint's expansion of their 4G network and selling the devices to them so that they can keep their unlimited plans available. They would do this, the rumor argues, because they're increasingly focused on their cloud offerings and those things require bandwidth.

Still don't think it's likely but I guess it could make sense.

If Sprint were given the opportunity to get exclusive rights to the iPhone 5 for a big chunk of change, I think they'd bite...ESPECIALLY if the device is 4G.

They'd be stupid not to. They'd get a ridiculous amount of new customers because iPhone users are mindless-drones and would switch to whatever has the best phone.

    lol...you mad.

Why would I be mad? I've used an iPhone and it isn't for me.

You're ignorant if you think iPhone users aren't that way though. Lots of people have iPhones just because it's the "cool" thing to do. 80% of people who have them don't even NEED an iPhone.

My favorite part is when they have events like today, and they'll announce some mediocre feature that phones already have and the crowd goes wild. The best example is when they were announcing their "exclusive" deal with the iPad and the AT&T Network.

The AT&T network fucking sucks, why are you idiots cheering?

The WSJ really needs to stop it with the rumors:

I place my bets on this. No 4G for this version of the iphone. My guess is there will never be a wimax version of the iphone and next year we will see a lte version. I think Apple doesn't want to mess with horrible battery life that comes with the current lte chipsets.

If this iPhone doesn't have 4G then I can see them losing some market share to Android and the other OS'.

I am sure apple can spin it in away that 4g is bad but once they do add a 4g iphone to their lineup they will make it seem magical.

I travel a lot in the Winter, so I'm hoping one of the updates to the phone is the enabling of "FaceTime" to be used over network connection, instead of only Wi-Fi.

I feel like it would be brutal over 3G though, so unless they're updating to 4G it's just a pain point.

Correct. 3G doesn't have enough ass to make Facetime managable. I think that's why Skype took forever to get theirs to work.
  • ernest_t_bass
Anyone know/care to share how well Skype works on network connection? (Particularly AT&T)

I doubt it. People now associate the number of "g"s with the speed and efficiency of the network. They don't really understand how it works just that more "g"s is better.

Other companies and Android/WP/BB will hammer as hard as they can on that. Plus Android has been selling faster than iOS devices for a while now.

Jail break your phone and you can do it over 3G

That's what I've heard, #1 - I have no idea how to do it and #2 - I've heard some horror stories about doing it. The tech guy at my work (Apple nut) says that he will never jailbreak his iPhone again. Not sure why or why not.

    That doesn't sound too horrifying.

LOL. OK, I embellished on the "horrifying" part.

You're ignorant if you think what type of phone you have turns you into a "mindless drone." Trust me I've seen plenty of mindless people using all types of phones.

I don't have an iPhone btw, I just think your constant Apple bashing is comical.

I would have to agree with him, though, on the mindless drones part. There are MANY people out there who cream over anything Apple.

As their are alot of people out there that "cream" over many other things and companies! People like apple and that is obvious. I like their product and will let others know my thoughts on apple if they want it.

The part that gets me is that my gf won't even consider a non-iPhone smartphone. She's in the market for a new one and I recommended getting a Bionic (I have a Charge) ... she won't even look. It's iPhone or nothing, regardless of whether or not another smartphone may actually be a better machine, and regardless of whether or not another smartphone may perform all the functions of an iPhone. I have a feeling a lot of iPhone users are that way.
  • I Wear Pants
Is it because she's "used to it" or something like that?

Same logic my mom used to cling to AOL forever. Until I had to reformat the computer and told her that the AOL client wasn't available anymore.

That's spin. It's easier to sell more Android phones when there are many more Android phones to choose from. There are only 2 iOS phones vs. dozens of different Android phones, across several manufacturers. In that sense, it’s much easier to sell more devices when you have more of those to offer from the start. And all their buy one get one free deals help pad the stats too.

She says it's because she wants her music on her phone. I tell her any phone can do that nowadays. She doesn't care.
