Worst part is, what to do on an airplane with no cloud service? Also, better hope you had one of grandfathered unlimited plans or you'll find yourself out of data for the month quickly enough. I'd also be concerned about lag on 3G, though shouldn't be a problem on LTE - oh, wait, that's right!Glory Days;928805 wrote:takes up no memory, but what about battery life streaming compared to a running program? -

That is there reputation. I don't consider IOS to be easier or more functional to use than Android, just different. That's the perception because so many started with IOS and so what they are used to becomes "intuitive" and simple, when it's really not better just different. Myself and others who started with Android say the same thing in reverse.ohiotiger33;928794 wrote:I prefer my electronics to be easy to use as well as having some cool features. Apple is maybe the best marketing company, like ever. And they charge you for it. Boy, do they charge you for it. They do have great products, but their real source of differentiation is the marketing and branding. -
ohiotiger33I would probably use my ipod in most cases (IE Airplane/gym). But since I don't carry it everywhere I go, it will be nice to be able to play some songs every now and then at no extra cost. Also, the thing itself has an ipod internally, so I can put all the stuff I am currently listening too on it, the cloud is just cool in case I want to play something I haven't thought about.

ohiotiger33Plus I do have the unlimited data grandfathered in, which is awesome.

You know you have a damn good product when this is the only argument.
The funny thing is, you could stream music on your iPhone and still have the battery last longer than most Android phones do by just sitting in your pocket! -
ernest_t_bassWife's 3GS just got in today. Just waiting on activation to finish.
Justine - I got her a 3GS b/c I hate her, obvi. -

That's hardly the only argument against the IPhone...LTE, widgets, better notifications, better navigation (thanks to not relying on a frustratingly overly simple single button), location based settings, google nav...I can go on and on.hoops23;929198 wrote:LOL.

And the battery issue is overrated - I get a full day easily and that's all I need, especially if I were to use my phone like the toy that is the IPhone. -
ernest_t_bassHere is something that I just found out that is MEGA GAY... You can't bluetooth files with the iPhone. Trying to send my wife's old pics to her new iPhone, and it won't let me.

ohiotiger33My droid gets maybe 4 hours of charge when I DL widgets. It also makes it run like mollasses.

check your settings. is there a reason to have programs you dont use checking for updates every 5 minutes etc. i dont use gmail, so i stopped it from checking the server automatically, simple things like that save lots of battery time.ohiotiger33;929288 wrote:My droid gets maybe 4 hours of charge when I DL widgets. iPhone 4S is showing impressive benchmarks, and impressive download times even without LTE.gut;929264 wrote:That's hardly the only argument against the IPhone...LTE, widgets, better notifications, better navigation (thanks to not relying on a frustratingly overly simple single button), location based settings, google nav...I can go on and on.

I hate widgets. They are kind of pointless battery hogs, imo. However, jailbreaking your iPhone allows you to do pretty much ANYTHING with it. Widgets, custom notifications, etc...
iOS 5 is going to bring some great updates.
And the battery issue IS NOT overrated. No matter how much you want it to be.
As for navigation, I'm not sure what you mean. Navigating through an iPhone is simple as fuck. physical buttons are replaced by the touchscreen. Everything you need is there. You obviously have not used or handled an iPhone much. -

Every time I've played with an IPhone I quickly lose interest. And I have an IPad. IOS is not better (quite frankly, navigating my IPad is a pain-in-the-ass compared with Android), just different - everything I listed is a clear advantage to Android. I looked at Cylia and the selection of widgets is a complete joke compared to Android - and, no, they are not battery hogs at all (unless you set them to update every 5 minutes, and there's no point in doing that, so this is otherwise a completely ignorant statement).hoops23;929776 wrote:iPhone 4S is showing impressive benchmarks, and impressive download times even without LTE.

Congrats, you've got voice controls now. Ease of use on Nav? Couldn't beat SAYING "navigate to...", which Android has had since at least 2009. IOS has more polished apps (though not something that I notice or am impacted by), but Android is otherwise well-ahead in terms of features and functionality.
Sorry, one day is plenty sufficient for a battery - it's a push once you get about 18 hours. Oh no, let me take the extraordinary step to plug in my phone overnight. Such a hassle.
If you want a toy, IOS is great. If you want a business tool, Android is superior. That's my honest opinion having used both operating systems - I would not buy another IPad (this one was given to me). I love my widgets - I like to be able to just glance at my phone to see important information without swiping and clicking on apps - gives me much more information much more quickly. You would have to launch dozens of apps to get the information I get at a glance from a few screens of widgets, and that makes this no contest.
And LOL, impressive speeds on 3G?!? Some people are seeing LTE speeds better than broadband, 20mbps+ on off-peak times. There's no comparison. -

I find it funny how Android phones have short shelf lives. You never know when your specific phone will be dropped from support or receive it's next update. The likely hood that your phone will still receive OS updates over the course of a 2 year contract probably isn't very high.gut;929820 wrote:Every time I've played with an IPhone I quickly lose interest. Sorry, one day is plenty sufficient for a battery - it's a push once you get about 18 hours. Oh no, let me take the extraordinary step to plug in my phone overnight. Such a hassle. And truthfully if I strip down my phone set-up like IOS, the battery life differences would be marginal.

For instance, the Evo has been dropped from Sprint. Phone companies pretty much bend over backwards to get the iPhone. Not to mention the memory issues after prolong use. Phones freeze up when making/receiving a call, apps crash, etc, etc..
Apple continues to support their device for at least 3 generations. Same can't be said for most Android phones. Is the Epic 4G still running 2.2? What's the Evo running now a days?
And I have no idea what this "Cylia" you mentioned is... Unless you meant "Cydia", which just further stamps my belief that you have no clue wtf you're talking about.
It's also pretty laughable that you say Android is far superior in functionality...
Also, why does it seem every Android phone comes preloaded with so much "bloatware" apps.. So frustrating.
As for your business sentiments, A bunch of businesses seem to disagree with you.
About 80% of fortune 500 companies are using iPhones and 50% of those companies are using iPads.
There is a reason why the iPhone is the best selling smartphone in the world, it probably helps that it's also captured over 70% of Japans market as well. -
justincredibleIt's amazing how serious people take their phone "loyalties" on here. It's a phone. Having an iphone doesn't make you cool. Having an android phone doesn't make you cool.

se-alumFor some reason, it seems like Android users think they're in some sort of dick measuring competition. iPhone users aren't attacking Android, just saying they prefer iPhone. Android users feel the need to attack, which typically means they are trying to defend an inferior product.

This couldnt be any more false. by my count, there have been atleast 6 major updates since 2008. i believe i received 2 with my original droid in just under 2 years.hoops23;929827 wrote:I find it funny how Android phones have short shelf lives. sherm03Wow...so much that needs to be addressed here. Let's give it a shot.
Google has agreed to support a device with updates for 18 months from its launch. The biggest problem is, two years ago, Android was in its infancy. It has progressed extremely fast in those two years because it needed to catch up, and then surpass, what other operating systems were doing. So you saw a huge amount of updates in an extremely short amount of time. I think you'll see the software updates from Google slow down now that they are in a strong position market-wise. You can already see this with how long it is taking to go from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich on devices.hoops23;929827 wrote:I find it funny how Android phones have short shelf lives. Of course they do. It's a freaking cash cow! Why wouldn't they? It doesn't matter if it's a huge change like the iPhone 4 was, or a minor change like the iPhone 4S is...people will line up to get it, and the carrier will sell a ton. Is that because the phone is better? Well that's debatable. But it happens, so yes, carriers are going to bend over backwards to get the iPhone.hoops23;929827 wrote:Phone companies pretty much bend over backwards to get the iPhone.
Doing this doesn't really support your argument as much as you'd like it to. I knew Apple supported their devices for awhile, but I didn't know it was 3 generations. What this tells me though, is that not much changes in Apple's software from year to year. Out of date, old specs (that a phone three generations ago would be sporting) should not be able to handle the things that the newer and better phones can do. Take the original Droid at Motorola. When that launched two years ago, it was a top of the line device. Looking at it now, that 550mhz processor is PAINFULLY slow. If Google allowed that phone to be updated all the way to Ice Cream Sandwich, the phone would completely shut down because it wouldn't be able to handle the OS.hoops23;929827 wrote:Apple continues to support their device for at least 3 generations. On top of that, Google, the manufacturers, and the carriers, are in this to make money. They don't want customers sitting on a phone for three years because it is still getting updates. They want customers to come in after two years and buy a new phone.
hoops23;929827 wrote:It's also pretty laughable that you say Android is far superior in functionality...
It's not laughable...that's just, like, his opinion...man.
As far as the businesses go, that's only because the iPhone and iPad got whitelisted first. Android has come a long way to improve the security on their devices, and many Android devices are whitelisted with just about every IT department.hoops23;929827 wrote:As for your business sentiments, A bunch of businesses seem to disagree with you.

And saying the iPhone is the best selling smartphone (while true) is kind of misleading. The iPhone is the only one running iOS, while multiple manufacturers make Android devices. So what really needs compared is iOS and Android. And Android has a significant lead over iOS in the smartphone world...at least in the US. The last data I saw was for the first quarter this year, and Android held a 36% marketshare, while iOS held a 16% marketshare. -

WebFireLOL at people having a pissing match over which OS is better. They both use icons on swipe screens to open apps. They both have apps for pretty much anything you can dream up. Both are easy enough to use a caveman can do it.
