Beer snob discussion thread

And I might add any of you Cincy area people should check out Jungle Jim's Beer Fest. There are only some many tickets lotted so it won't be overcrowded as others are in this area.

Plus you can talk to servers that know the beers as opposed to volunteers that have never even tried the beers they are serving. And I just might like to meet ya. Well except for Justin. Been there, done that...

Local Ohio micro brewery. Heard this place mentioned on the AM news. Anybody ever tried it?

I'm always intrigued by this when I see it, how is it?

Similar to Duvel (if you've had that). I prefer Duvel but Delirium is very good.

It's pretty damn good. As with your typical "high end" Belgiums, it's pricy, I wouldn't drink it unless it was a special occasion. You can get better bang for your buck but if you feel like splurging it's worth trying at some point.

I have. Went to a beer tasting back in 2005 or 2006 and sampled the 3 beers they had at the time prior to the beers for the tasting. That was back when they only offered growlers.

Was at a Beer Fest years ago and they had a new beer at that time. It was a nut brown. It was my favorite of the night. The Wife and I ended up hanging next to their booth putting a few if them away.

I've met the owner on several occasions, Mike Dewey. He doesn't know my name, but recognizes us when he sees us. Very cool guy that just loves beer.

They have recently opened a tasting room/area that I need to check out. I actually have 3 of their nut browns in the fridge right now.

Lol...if I could only make The Wife nut 3 times I'd tie his record.

    Rep'd.

Racer 5, Two Hearted, Nugget Nectar, and Palate Wrecker. Had at least one of each so far. Never follow a Two Hearted after a Nectar. It just tastes like 'sweet'.

Sorry but I can't bring myself to drink something called "nugget nectar".

Well I'm ghey so, I'm good with it.

Had a little North Coast Brother Thelonious. Belgian style abbey ale. Pretty good.
  • Curly J
In fact Said, the Governor is visiting Mt Carmel brewing today.

Ommegang is still my favorite of this style. Admittedly, I haven't tried that many.

Gulden Draak and Maudite would be good tries if you liked the Brother Thelonious. Also, La Fin Du Monde (although this is a tripel and not a Belgian strong dark). Really, anything from Unibroue is the shit.
  • vdubb96
^^^ Can't say I've tried any of those. I'll look into that!

Big fan of La Fin Du Monde!
  • gorocks99
All their beers are kick ass, but La Fin takes the cake for me. It's my go-to Belgian style.

Actually had this in my hand at the store today but ended up putting it back; couldn't drop anymore cash. Left with a 4 pack of Goose Island Fleur and a 6 of Lagunitas Imperial Red.
  • Commander of Awesome
Not a huge fan of the Lagunitas myself.

Has anyone tried the DFH Urkontinent. The Wife picked up a bomber of it yesterday. Weird ingredients...wattle seed, amaranth, rooibos, myrica gale and honey. The only one I recognize is honey.

More hops tonight. I did drink my last two Old Curmmys last night.

Three Philosophers Belgian Quad FTW! That's my go-to.

Definitely. Unibroue (for those who don't know, it's pronounced 'uni-brew') always puts out some solid hooch.

Isn't 'gale' a wind? Didn't think you could bottle that.

I always thought it could be a name. ;)
