I've had 6 of the 12 samplers. the stout, which sucked, and the IPA which was decent. Should've just got my sixer of sierra nevada.

But the Honey Brown is good. Yea good, but not awesome.

It's always good to try new things.

Had a Green Flash Palate Wrecker on Saturday at Melt. I liked it but I would probably drink hop juice. Hops hops hops.

Had it Saturday night for the first time. Nice beer. I put the the other 3 in the fridge last night planing on drinking one, but got hooked on the Insanity instead. I will have one or more tonight.

Weyerbacher Insanity. It's their Blithering Idiot Barley Wine aged in oak bourbon casks. If you've never had a Weyerbacher beer I suggest trying one. In my opinion they rank right up there with Stone/Victory/DFH as far as great beers go. In fact many years ago when Victory upgraded their brewhouse Weyerbacher bought their one. Very.Nice.Beers. out of Easton Pa.

Weyerbacher's Imperial Pumpkin Stout is phenomenal. Can't wait for Fall.

Finishing off my last two Old Rasputin's. Damn they're good, already feeling it.

Okay I finally broke into a couple of the Sam Adams special bomber I bought.

Cinder Bock Rauch Bock. Very nice beer. It had some nice smoke to it in a bock, or for any smoked beer for that matter. Perfect amount of smoke flavor. Loved it very much. Even The Wife loved it and she's not into Rauch Beers.

Dark Depths Baltic IPA. Ehh it was okay. Maybe because I'm not sure what a Baltic IPA is supposed to taste like.

Triple Digit Aftermath Scottish Style Ale. VERY sweet smelling on the nose like a barley wine style. It didn't finish as sweet as it smelled, but was good none the less. I look forward to trying this on draft which will happen this week. Lots of sediment in the bomber which I like sediment.

Now finishing my last of the four pack of Insanity...I'll be down for the count within the hour. Freaking love this beer. Thanks Weyerbacher.

While wine snobs have blighted the earth for thousands of years (you can bet there was at least one guy curling his lip at the vintage of Jesus’ first and best miracle), beer snobbery is a relatively young art, especially in the U.S.

This is because every beer in the country once tasted exactly the same. Oh sure, there were Bud lovers and MGD aficionados who would swear they could tell the difference, but if you gave them a blind taste test, you’d soon discover they’d just keep asking for another “test taste” until there wasn’t any beer left and they were passed out on your sofa.

Furthermore, beer was considered the balm of the common man, it was not something you swirled in a glass and judged by its “nose.” It was something you swilled from a plastic cup and sometimes shot through your nose.

Then the microbrewery revolution swept the country and soon every abandoned firehouse, bank and shoe factory was outfitted with a vat and turning out every possible form and flavor of beer you could imagine, and some you would rather not.

It was perfectly natural then, with so many different beers to choose from, that a learned cadre of beer experts would appear to explain to the unsophisticated masses what is “good beer” and what “has the nose and character of a harbor-town harlot with a penchant for walking into walls caked with manure.” Thus arrived the beer snob.

Went looking for the Insanity last night Curly, no luck. I ended up picking up an Abita 25th Anniversary Vanilla Doubledog and Big Bear Black Stout.

The black bear stout is supposed to be very good and $5 for a bomber is a great price comparatively. I'll post my thoughts on them when I pop them open.

I've asked a question similar to this before but is Hoppin' Frog Oatmeal Imperial stout worth $10.99 for a pint?

I always find that a hard price to pay for a pint (I assume you mean a bomber, 22 OZ), but if I think about it as buying a beer in a bar, it's easier. Then its roughly $5/$6 a pint and a better beer than you'll get in most bars.

How's the ST Back Burner Barley Wine Style Ale? Any of you ever tried it?

I've never had anything bad from Southern Tier. Love their Black Water series. I'm sure I've had their Barley Wine I just can't recall it at this time. It's not one I buy often and I don't know why. I'll have to make it a point to buy it next time.

I hardly buy ST either. For example yesterday I was looking at their imperial stout, but the Black Bear was $3 cheaper and rated equally as high on Beer Advocate. I'll pick it up eventually, perhaps this weekend to compare.

...This past Saturday I was down in Pittsburgh & had a great Belgium ale -- Kasteel Triple--. Very nice after taste + has a pretty high alcohol content ( 11%). I recomend this one highly!!!

Hell yes it is. (I'm also assuming you're referring to a bomber, not a pint)

I can't recall now. I thought it said pint but I could be wrong. I guess I will give it a try when I'm out again.

Cracked the Black Bear Stout last night, it was fucking great. Doesn't go down like the 9%, could easily get hammered off of this and not even know it. For the price, it may be the best Imperial Stout value I've come across.

I agree; awesome beer and is a steal compared to most Imperial Stouts.
