LOL!
A local grocer has a pretty good beer selection. One of the beers they sell has not had the stock switched out in over a year, meaning the same bottles that were sitting there a year ago are still there now, dusty and all. I was in the mood to try something new the other day, and I thought, "Hell, these have been sitting here for a year ... it's like buying it aged!"
Brought it home. Opened the top, which overflowed all over my pants (yeast had been building up pressure over the last year), and then poured it.
It was amazing.
Given that nobody else seems to buy it (like I said, it's been sitting there for a year), I'm thinking I'll be able to buy it for quite some time. -
I Wear PantsThanks for dumbing it down for me. I think it was the capitalized parts which for some reason seemed out of place and then the vagueness (not named store, unnamed beer) that gave me the idea that you may have been telling a joke or something that I didn't get. Instead you just found an unlabled beer that you really like.
-
O-TrapIt's labeled. I just can't remember what the label said.
When I pick up some more tomorrow, I'll put the name up here. It was really obscure. I'd never heard of it before. -
I Wear PantsImma lol when you come back tomorrow and post something like "MGD 64".
-
O-TrapI expect you to vkick me in the vnuts and take my vcash if I do that.
No, it was a bourbon barrel-aged stout. -
I Wear PantsYou got vnuts? What the hell? Is that only available on the premium OC tier or something?
-
O-TrapI found it last night, and grabbed another pack. However, it seems like word is out among other beer drinkers in the area, as a bunch of them are gone.
I was surprised to see how poor a rating this got on Beer Advocate, though I suspect aging did make a difference.
It's from Bluegrass Brewing Co.

It IS really thick and heavy. It drank like a wonderfully complex Imperial Stout. -

Had the sampler pallet with dinner, bringing back a grower of the Belgian Wheat. Also stopped at Right Brian and got a grower of Cherry Ale. -
SonofanumpPink Pony Ale and Mackinac Pale Ale on the Island tonight, love sampling different local brews on vacation.

gorocks99I think I disagree with that list...a lot of Sierra Nevada ranked too high. Good beer but not better than a lot of the other micros out there.

I tend to agree on the Sierra Nevada. Celebration at #7 ??? Nah. Alesmith Speedway Stout Tied for 48...actually those 2 should swap places. I'd put Alesmith Speedway Stout in the top 5 easy.gorocks99;818475 wrote:I think I disagree with that list...a lot of Sierra Nevada ranked too high. I've had all of them except 8-10 of them out of the 50. Never had anything from Oskar. -

Dale's is a very very solid beer but tough to find. Seemed to be a lot of it on the East Coast (which is weird, b/c it's from Colorado...) -

I've never seen it, even when I was out in Colorado. I'll have to make a point and look for it next time.gorocks99;818489 wrote:Dale's is a very very solid beer but tough to find. Seemed to be a lot of it on the East Coast (which is weird, b/c it's from Colorado...)
Just noticed Three Floyds Dark Lord tied for 29th with Three Floyds Alpha King ??? WTF...there's a whole day dedicated to Dark Lord in this nation and it's usually top 5 in Rate Beer. I can get Alpha King at my local grocery (well used to before Three Floyds pulled out of Ohio ). Oh well it's just one list. -

Will do. That one just popped up on my FB page since I 'liked' DFH and they were spouting off on their rankings.Sonofanump;818500 wrote:Please post more as you find them. -

Maybe a little high, but you could make a good argument for all of them except maybe Torpedo, might drop that down a bit. Celebration Ale, Bigfoot, and Pale ale all excellent beers. Surprised Speedway Stout and West Coast IPA are so 'low'.
I've had 38 on the list, missed out on some pretty good ones though. My top 10 from what I've had on that list would be...
1. Pliny the Elder
2. Kentucky Breakfast Stout
3. Troegs Nugget Nectar
4. Speedway Stout
5. DFH 90 min IPA
6. Sierra Nevada Bigfoot
7. Green Flash West Coast IPA
8. Bells Hopslam
9. Old Rasputin
10. Celebration Ale -
O-TrapHad a good business day today. Decided to celebrate with four 90-Minute IPAs and an Avery Maharajah.
Let's just say I'm feeling it. -
SonofanumpWas at GLBC before the tribe game last night. Had every beer on tap including a blueberry wheat. Epic.

What a coincidence. I had a few 90-Minutes last night. (5 1/2, as The Wife left me a 1/2 bottle that she didn't drink) I honestly forgot how good that beer is.O-Trap;824395 wrote:Had a good business day today. Decided to celebrate with four 90-Minute IPAs and an Avery Maharajah.

Curly JIt was an all IPA/DIPA fest tonight at the Curly Household. I bought a few single bottles of IPAs the other night to try for comparison.
Arcadia vs Dark Horse Crooked Tree.
Arcadia won this by default. I always thought of Arcadia being a decent IPA, but kind of light. It is actually brewed as a Traditional British IPA as all their beers are British styles. The Crooked Tree tasted funny to me then I looked at the glass and saw all kinds of 'stuff' floating in it. The Wife wouldn't even try it as the way it looked was just not right, so it got poured. I'm not sure what happened to it, but I didn't want to try it either again after seeing that. I've had it before and it wasn't too bad....Oh well.
Two Brothers Resistance vs Green Flash West Coast.
West Coast hands down was better. I've always liked Resistance as it's aged in French Oak, but the West Coast had all the hops and some nice bitterness that put it over the top. Felt like a IPA...well a huge hopped America West Coast Style IPA. It had been a while since I had the West Coast and forgot how great it is.
Avery IPA vs 90 Min.
The 90 Min took this one. Just so much more flavor as it is a Huge beer. Not that the Avery was bad just not as hopped as the 90 Min. (most aren't as hopped as the DFH)
Overall Winner was the Green Flash West Coast...then we were out of IPAs. What to do ??? We reached into the stash for IPAs.
Had two of this years Hopslam's. Even though it's 5 months old it still tasted Great. So next was the last bottles of the 2010 Hopslam that we had around. The Hops were pretty much all gone from the 2010. This was the year that had all kinds of funky smells to it. (Locker room, dirty socks, mildew smell...which I liked because it brought back childhood memories) Now it's all malt with just a little scent of the hops and a hint of a taste of them. I should mention that the Hopslams were all drank room temperature, which I like due to the ABV and flavor...The Wife not so much as she likes a little chill to them. Oh well, last thought, last beverages. I'm finishing up the last bottle as I type. (as The Wife went to bed)
All of these were done in 4oz glasses after the pour of the Crooked Tree looked so ugly in the Pint Glass...and most were drank while watching old school videos on VH1 Classics. Metal Mania !!! Long Live Big Hair !!! Bang Your Head !!!
