Elite 8: (1) Duke vs. (3) Baylor
-
Laley23Yeah, Duke deserved the win in the end. I am just pointing out a terrible call that I saw.
The rest of the game I thought they were pretty good.
I wouldve liked to have seen the slugfest of West Virginia and Baylor, but the contrasting styles of WVU and Duke will be interesting. -

I didn't blame the officials for the loss. But don't kid yourself, that play, the charge, could have easily changed the outcome of this game. And it certainly had an affect on the game. Making or missing shots is one thing...a call as BAD as that one, shouldn't even be in question. The official had his mind made up before the play even happened. He anticipated the call...something an official should never do.SQ_Crazies wrote:
Yeah, well if one play means that much then I could point out a bunch of missed shots by Baylor and say IF they made those buckets they would have won.centralbucksfan wrote:
I hear this quite often, and think its absolutely bullshit. One play, when a game is close, can certainly make or break a game. A call one way or the other, can make or break a game. When the margin of error is that close, a play here or there can make a difference. Coaches preach the same thing often during practice.SQ_Crazies wrote: I hate Duke as much as the next guy, but the officials didn't decide this. Bad calls are part of the game there is nothing you can do about it, one play doesn't make or break the game.
You know what I hear quite often that is absolute bullshit?
Fans blaming officials for games.
A complaint about the officials has come up in just about every tournament game thread.
All that said, Duke is the better team and deserved the win. I have no issue with that.
BTW, if you don't think one play can make a difference...ask the 72 Olympic team. Just one example of many I could make. -
NonIt was a pivotal call and a clear cheat to help Duke.
After that, Baylor still had a chance and got outplayed. -
Laley23Baylor only has themselves (and Scott Drew) to blame. You stay in a zone and give up that many 3s and offensive rebounds your just dumb. Especially the last 5 minutes when time was running down on you. Get up in some man to man and pressure them, and get the rebounds and get out and run. They let Duke control the tempo of the game throughout.
-
mattinctownWow, great second half by Duke, can't wait till Saturday night against the Mountaineers!!!!!!!!!! Singler didn't really show up much, but luckily they didn't need it.

I agree...as I said earlier, do they always play zone? IT was aweful and they never came out of it. Duke has so many wide open 3's and the rebounding was bad. That alone would have made me change to MM.Laley23 wrote: Baylor only has themselves (and Scott Drew) to blame. You stay in a zone and give up that many 3s and offensive rebounds your just dumb. Yep, people blaming officials yet again, likely story. Too bad, Duke is in the Final Four! -
NonI will say that after Scheyer made the three to put Duke up six.
The refs called a soft foul on Zoubek when Baylor was shooting to give them a shot at three to make it only a three-point game again.
The shot didn't go in and the guy only made 1-of-2 so it resulted in only one point. -

This +1000.......critical calls always go the dukies way, but Baylor still had a chance and duke outplayed them.It was a pivotal call and a clear cheat to help Duke.

Does anyone know if Baylor was exclusively a zone team all year. They had better athletes and should have tried a man. -
Laley23
To be fair, only a few are blaming the refs.mattinctown wrote:Non wrote: It was a pivotal call and a clear cheat to help Duke.

i was furious at that charge call, but the rest of the game I thought was called well. Duke deserved the win, I dont think the refs helped them. I think a lot of people are just mad at that one call. -
friendfromlowryHopefully Coach K will recall the feeling of losing to WVU back in 2007, and will have Duke ready to beat them this time.

Prescott
Baylor could have gone up 4 if the free throw is hit. Psychologically , it is a different game for both teams. Duke probably still wins, but the charge call was dramatic and chnaged things.I think a lot of people are just mad at that one call. -

Not sure, Ive only seen them a few times and I wasnt really watching real intently until today. It was a bizarre zone though. I mean, they all ran around a whole bunch. It was a zone without any real principles. It was kind of fun to watch, just didnt work well lol.centralbucksfan wrote:

I would HAVE to think they play that zone all the time, otherwise they wouldve come out of it at some point (especially at the end). That or Drew needs a stern talking to. -
TheMightyGatorsccrunner should stick to cross country. He clearly is clueless when it comes to basketball.
I'm shocked Baylor had as much success as they did this year, if they play that way all the time. I've never seen so many poor decisions with shot selection. They stood around in the zone and gave up open looks all night. Then continue to stand around and give up 20+ offensive rebounds. Not a good recipe for success. -
mattinctownThe officials didn't give up 22 offensive rebounds, the officials didn't hit big 3's when the game was on the line. Whatever anyone says, Duke is in the Final Four I really thought Baylor should have played some man to man, Duke shredded the zone all night, but I'm not the coach.

I will post a giant post on this tonight, but for now I just need my blood pressure to return to a reasonable level. Going for a brisk run. -
FootwedgeWas rooting for Baylor big time. That call can be made either way. It was very close. Not a "horrible" call at all.
A bigger play was early in the second half....when Baylor's idiot center picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls in one possession, including fouling a 3 point jump shot.
Turned a 5 point lead into a 1 point lead...... and had his rear end parked on the bench for most of the half. Baylor's defensive rebounding in the second half was atrocious. -
FootwedgeI think the T was a worse call than the charge. Either offset...or no call there.

You call still see him sliding his feet; standing there waiting on him LOL.ccrunner609 wrote:
The guy came from the corner at least 4 steps and Zoubek was there waiting for him. Charge everytime when a guy fly's in like that.Non wrote: I don't hate Duke but that was a cheat on the Zoubek charge.
Baylor was going up two possessions and that ref knew on a close play he was going Duke's way regardless.
You have to call that stuff out for what is is and not stick up for the refs. -
