FSU @ Carolina

Barnes and Bullock shouldn't have any trouble earning playing time. They have a very valuable basketball quality that should be a hot commodity in Chapel Hill next year...they can shoot the basketball. Hopefully they'll make a big difference.

Been hearing lately that Ed Davis to the NBA might not actually be a sure thing. Just depends on how soon he can get healthy and how his workouts go. A lot of transfer rumors, but the only players I could see leaving are Watts or McDonald, and they knew coming in that they were going to have to wait for playing time.

I do to ESPN The Triangle on occasion (it's where I listen to Bob Harris when Duke's not on television), but I always forget about it since I have to be on the computer. I'm listening right now, in fact, and they're ripping NC State for choosing to hire a dog to act as their "Wolf"pack mascot. Lol.

"Is it not a buffalo that the Colorado Buffalos have? And there are not a lot of buffalos walking around in civilization. Can we please get a wolf in Raleigh, not a cat that's dressed up like a wolf?"

I need to listen more often. Hopefully they hit up 14-14 topic convo pretty soon.

This season hasn't gotten me down. I'm still on a high from the championships we've won lately. There is a lot wrong with this team. No leadership. No consistant perimeter shooting. No hustle. No ability to take someone off the dribble. A good mix of overrating players coming back and overrating incoming players. I wouldn't mind seeing Roy play the hustle guys (whoever that may be) the last 3 games, and calling his stud recruits and tell them to pay attention to whats going on. Make the message clear-- when you step foot onto this campus you better bring it, or you'll share the same fate your future teammates are right now.

Out of town all day and not able to watch any of the great games/big upsets today. At least I got to come home to a pleasant surprise.

    CAROLINA 77 - WAKE 68.

I know Wake hasn't played very well as of late, but I just have to laugh. How does Carolina lose 10 out of its last 13 games (or whatever it was) and then beat Wake on the road? I'm not getting my hopes up, but maybe this win will finally "turn the light on", so to speak, and allow the Heels to play well over the next couple weeks.
  • reclegend22
Who knows, it might. They looked pretty good today. You missed a great effort by your boys. This, IMO, is what Roy has been struggling with this year, motivating his guys rather than placing continuous blame on them. Or at least that's how I see it. I could very well be wrong.

Anyhow, Carolina had a 10-point lead in this one late, over a nice Wake team at Wake, something they couldn't do with Hansbrough a year ago. Obviously both teams have different rosters now, but it's funny how things work. The Heels haven't played like this since they beat OSU and then MSU. The Heels have the talent to be an NCAA team. They've shown that. It's always just been a matter of them proving that on the hardwood each time out.
  • ironman02
Yeah, the talent is certainly there. Hopefully this quality win will bring back the confidence that the team has been lacking since those big OOC wins against OSU and MSU. If that confidence continues to grow, and they execute like they did today, things could get interesting. The ACC is pretty wacky this year top to bottom, so I certainly wouldn't rule out some strange happenings in Greensboro. Maybe things are finally clicking at the right time.

I'm obviously surprised by the 77-68 win, but Carolina was also only 19-33 from the FT line. I never dreamed this team would win a game at Wake when they shot under 60% from the FT line. I guess it helped that Wake couldn't make a shot. Did that have more to do with Carolina actually playing defense for a change or was Wake just really off today?

It was probably a combination of both, iron, but Carolina played pretty good defensively from what I saw of the second half. Tyler Zeller, though no Hashim Thabeet, really makes a difference as an inside presence when he's in the game. He gives the Heels that added defensive depth on the interior. Aminu was held to only five or so shots on the day and got into foul trouble early. I credit Carolina for playing him tough and forcing Wake to bomb away from deep. Aside from Stewart, the Deacons kept settling for outside shots all game and could never hit. I bet they chucked close to 30. I'd have to go look, though.

The biggest difference of the afternoon, however, was Carolina's ability to answer offensively every single time Wake made a run late in the second half. The Deacons had a chance to get the game within two with under two minutes to play and Carolina came up with a stop and then a huge slam (I can't remember who) on the fastbreak. That was the ball game. It was either a Graves three (God I hate his facial demeanor) or a put back dunk from a Carolina big man seemingly every trip during the last three or four minutes. Wake couldn't stop them.

Dino should be ashamed with how he's handled such a talented group of players the past couple of weeks, especially at home. He looked like he wanted to crawl inside one of those zombie nation cheers and spin away.

Rec, Dino Gaudio and Paul Hewitt are two of the reasons why the ACC hasn't exerted itself as the best conference in college basketball. Those two can recruit but struggle getting the most out of their players. Then you have Gary Williams and Seth Greenberg who get the most out of their players but struggle to recruit (especially Gary considering he's right in the middle of extremely fertile recruiting ground).

    Then there's Sidney Lowe...
  • swamisez
Sidney is a double threat. He can recruit but can't develop (Tracy Smith) and he gets the most out of the players that have no business playing in the ACC (Horner)

Miami at Carolina tonight. Senior Night in the Dean Dome.

Game isn't televised and I can't find it online.

    Anyone have a link?

Since I know you, I'll let that one slide. :)

    http://espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/player?gameId=300610153&sportCode=&league=NCAAM

I don't know if that will work for anyone else, but it's working for me.

I have NEVER had ESPN360 work, EVER.
  • ironman02
Is Karl Hess making an appearance, swami?

If he is, I already feel bad about this.
  • ironman02
    Thanks, wildcats.

Working for me too. I don't know how, but I'm not complaining.
  • ironman02
LOL. Mohawk on Henson looks interesting.
  • ironman02
That commerical made me want to vomit.
  • karen lotz
Nice, maybe Time Warner finally jumped on board with espn360, I have sent them numerous "requests" to pick this up. Hopefully my kind words made an impact :)
  • wildcats20
I have Insight, so who knows....
  • wildcats20
Penetration and kick from Henson out to Strickland for an easy 3. Where the hell has this been!?!?
  • karen lotz
Henson has been one of the few bright spots this year. Seems like he is really becoming comfortable out there now.
  • wildcats20
Nice way to close the half with a big time block from Henson and then a bucket from Strickland, but then gave up a WIDE OPEN 3
  • ironman02
Henson is a shot blocking machine.

GREAT energy and defensive intensity from Carolina tonight. Of course some dude nails his only three of the season right before the half, but I'll take a 10 point lead. Gotta keep it up in the second half and send Deon, Marcus, and the walk-on seniors out on the right note.

This is NOT the same Carolina team we've seen over the past 3 months.
