j_crazyconsidering the Rose Bowl. Cal is a bigger rival to OSU than UF.

You know Tressel isn't about to move an in state team for anyone.
possibly UAB. that buyout can't be huge, but i'm also in favor of honoring a contract made before a better business opportunity came up. -
LJgibby08 wrote:ytownfootball wrote: So by not replacing Cal they're ducking Florida?
LOL
OK chief.
Lets make a list of the reasons for replacing Cal with UF:
1.Built In Rivalry somewhat, some people like me just don't care
2.MASSIVE TV draw may be a loss depending on what the buyout with Cal is
3.Much better game you have absolutely no way of currently knowing that
That's why they scheduled USC, Texas, Miami, Oklahoma, VT right?Only reason for them NOT scheduling UF is they want an easy win and and are afraid they would get crushed much like the '06 BCS Title Game -

Ok believe what you want(at ytown)
LJ...I'm strictly referring to them not replacing Cal with UF -
j_crazyholy shit we've entered the vortex here and gotten completely off topic.

dump an in state rivalry game that fans have been screaming their head off for?bartsimpson wrote: Dump UC and pick up Florida...it seems like a no-brainer....except OSU wouldn't dare schedule two "real teams" in the same season....no way they'd play both Cal and Florida. j_crazyeither way I think we're all getting waaaaaay too excited for this. it took them (the Big 10) like 10 years to decide to even look for a new team, I don't think they're going to find one in 2 months.

yes but this is the perfect choice for the big tenj_crazy wrote: either way I think we're all getting waaaaaay too excited for this. it took them (the Big 10) like 10 years to decide to even look for a new team, I don't think they're going to find one in 2 months. -
NOL fanlol at how gibby just completely ignores LJ's point about the possible Cal buyout

Considering the landscape of college football and its reliance on the BCS to crown a "champion" the move is going to be to larger conferences and the Big 10 is ahead of the curve in this respect. I'm not certain about if it took them 10 years, to decide to add another is necessarily true. I think they've wanted to add for a long time but it's now obvious that not doing so may lead to them not getting the best possible members.j_crazy wrote: either way I think we're all getting waaaaaay too excited for this. it took them (the Big 10) like 10 years to decide to even look for a new team, I don't think they're going to find one in 2 months.
Who they get remains to be seen but they might as well start big. -
j_crazyI'm not saying that this isn't the right thing to do, but i'm trying to say that they weighed their options carefully for the better part of a decade and they aren't going to add a team without comparable thoughtfulness.

Texas is there dream team. the_system
Texas makes more money than any other team in College Football. They have a perfect system that they plotted on the Big 12 to give them the most TV revenue. Why on earth would they leave the big 12 to go to the big 10 and have to drive across the country for every other non money making sport?2quik4u wrote:

Yeah, because Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, MSU, Northwestern, Purdue, etc..aren't real teams?bartsimpson wrote: Dump UC and pick up Florida...it seems like a no-brainer....except OSU wouldn't dare schedule two "real teams" in the same season....no way they'd play both Cal and Florida. Ohio State is not ducking top competition unlike Florida who seems content in playing their depleted "in state rivals" year in year out. Florida would get BLOWN out in the shoe, and you can take that to the bank. -

Brown has done quite a bit, but I will stand by statement that Paterno has done more.gibby08 wrote:

2.Ohio State's run as the top dog in the Big 10 would be over
This would be a little bit different
These stats are since Mack Brown became the Texas coach
Texas
1998-2009
128–27 overall record
80–16 conference record
8-4 Bowl Record
4-1 BCS Bowl Record
2 BCS Title Game Apperances
1 BCS National Championship
2 Big 12 Titles
21 Consecutive Big 12 Wins fron 04-06
1 Heisman Trophy
3 Maxwell Awards
2 Davey O'Brien Awards
2 Doak Walker Awards
1 Butkus Award
2 Thorpe Awards
4 National POY Awards
23 All Americans
37 1st Team Big 12 Selections
9 Consecutive 10 win season
Want to rethink that statement -
PHDiggerWow off topic I`d say. Anyways I'm all for getting Texas. Especially after reading that write up about it. I`m not so sure they will do it but the money is there and that's the most important part. Anyone that hasn't read that needs to. I had my doubts about this before reading that but now i`m convinced.

Strapping Young Lad
Ohio State couldn't rattle a high-school-quaterback-led, (whatever bowl they played in )-bound USC team enough to win in the shoe. Why should anyone believe they would beat Florida there???sleeper wrote:

PreacherThis thread has gone several directions.
1. Texas in the Big Ten.....$$$$$$$ would be an excellant opportunity to finally attract ND. Also could lead to a super confernce with multiple divisions. This in itself could force the NCAA to a Tourney.
2. Florida looking for opponents. You have to be willing to come out of the SEC country in late fall my friend. Not late summer.lol
3. Florida vs tOSU. Florda wants to play OSU at one of the Professional stadiums would be a huge loss of $$$$ for Ohio State and their home game. About 35000 less tickets sold and concessions. Don't see this happening.
4. Dropping contracts to pick up better game. This is like taking a date to prom and dumping her for someone who is better. May not be illegal but high unethical. I would not be a fan of this at all. I think Tressell and the sports dept at tOSU has way to much class to do this now.
5. The Banter back and forth about blowing out Fla in the Shoe. Come up here in November and it will be proven.lol -
jpake1The Ohio State University doesn't run from anybody. They're signing up all the big boys one at a time. UF knows where the line ends, so get in line.

For Florida, the line "ends" at the Florida state border. They don't cross it out of conference.jpake1 wrote: The Ohio State University doesn't run from anybody. They're signing up all the big boys one at a time. UF knows where the line ends, so get in line.
