Way too much travel for Texas. If I were a fan, I would be pissed about this.

No, actually I guarantee he would be welcoming Texas right now.

OSU and Texas went 1-1 in their two game series. Then both teams played a great Fiesta Bowl two years ago when both teams held a lead late in the 4th quarter.

I highly doubt Tressel is worried about Texas and Mack Brown joining the B10.
I doubt it. Ohio State has enough trouble making it through a mediocre Big Ten schedule unflawed without having to deal with Texas every year or every other year.

And the B12 is something to write home about? No conference outside of the SEC has any room to talk right now unfortunately.

Oklahoma has lost 5 straight BCS bowl games including 2 NC's.

    B12 in BCS bowl games: W-L 7-10 (or 41% 7/17)
    Oklahoma: 2-5
    Texas: 3-1
    Nebraska: 1-1
    Colorado: 0-1
    Kansas: 1-0
    KSU: 0-1
    Texas A&M: 0-1

    B10 in BCS bowl games: W-L 10-11 (or 48% 10/21)
    OSU: 5-3
    UM: 1-3
    Ill: 0-2
    Iowa: 1-1
    PSU: 1-1
    Wisconsin: 2-0
    Purdue: 0-1

I think people are forgetting how this would affect Texas' only sport they are national contenders year in and year out...Baseball....Big 10 baseball not starting till when mid-march?.....

I also think this would hurt Texas football recruiting....

With that said....go get them horns.

How did my last statement have anything to do with the Big 12???? Point is why would OSU want any tougher of a road to get through the Big 10??? If you get through undefeated in the Big Ten you go to the Nat'l Championship. Why would they want more competition??? they have a hard enough time with Purdue.....

Texas will not join the Big 10.

    1. When anyone thinks about the Big Ten they think about the midwest. This means Missouri or Pitt would be better options, and I would suspect it ends up being Pitt giving Penn State a legit rival.
    2. Texas would not give up there rivalry with OU, A&M.
    3. Also adds travel for the school being so far away and alot of school are complaining about the amount of travel right now.

While the Big10 doesn't play HOME games as early as Texas, everybody starts the season the same time now.

Pitt brings ZERO to the Big Ten. Zip.

No new markets, no great facilities. Nada.

Yes, it's a school with very good academics like all of the Big Ten schools, but other than that...nada.

They aren't going to bring in a school simply because they'd be a good rival for another Big Ten school.

The more I think about it all this talk about Texas is nothing but leverage to land another large fish in the Mid-west.... you know, that school over in South Bend. The Domers have consistently insisted they will not join a conference. If Texas moves to the B10 and the Pac10 potentially expands the whole landscape of college football changes. ND might not be able to pass up the invite this time around.

I dont know what you would call a championship contender, considering osu has played texas and usc the past 4 regular seasons. And now they have Miami who is back on the rise again.

You sir are an idiot about the Purdue statement. If you didnt know Oregon beat Purdue and slaughtered USC, so I guess they should have man-handled OSU?

Who is your team? Let me guess...Florida? Alabama?

And who really gives a shit about Texas not being in the same region at the rest of the Big 10 teams.. A couple hour plane ride, big shit.

Here something suprising, with all of this talk about travel, the distance between washington state university and the university of arizona(who are both in the pac 10) is about 1500 miles, yet the distance from austin, texas to columbus is only around 1300 miles. Its not a big deal.

I would welcome this move, and I think it'd be great in Baseball too. Texas might run the table but with Michigan, OSU, and Minnesota year in and year out normally pretty good it brings the whole profile of the league up. Probably takes them from a one bid NCAA to a 2 bid NCAA league
  • Strapping Young Lad
Pick 6, i don't give a shit about your football math. I'm not making any claims about who should beat who...

    My team is Colorado, FYI.

2.Ohio State's run as the top dog in the Big 10 would be over
When Penn State joined the Big Ten everyone said they would dominate the conference. How has that worked out?

This would be a little bit different

I'm not sure it would be that different. When Penn State joined the Big Ten, they came it with at least as impressive a resume as Texas has now. Actually, I think PSU came in with a better resume. Paterno had done more there than Brown has done at Texas.
  • vdubb96
I don't think the travel for the teams is that big of a deal. However travel for the fans would be horrible.
  • darbypitcher22
It wouldn't be terrible for most of the Big Ten fans to make a trip down there every other year or so... however for Texas fans to travel things would get pretty sticky... Minnesota, Iowa, Wisky, Illinois, and Northwestern aren't exactly close
  • Emmett Brown
The travel wont be that bad. Hawaii travels to La Tech. If they can make money doing that than so can Texas and the Big 10 schools.
  • darbypitcher22
Hawaii only travels to La. Tech once every other year. Plus, being a member of the WAC their travel budget is figured on travel to the mainland.

If Ohio State was worried about Texas, they wouldn't have scheduled them, USC, Miami or the like during the regular season...

    stupid
  • gibby08
They didn't have to play them every year
  • ytownfootball
    So what

Point is they don't shy away from competition and travel anywhere, unlike Florida et al.

Paterno had 2 National Championships, 4 undefeated seasons, 4 National Coach of the Year honors, 228-63 record and a bowl record of 14-8-1. He also had a team ranked in the final AP top 10 16 years.
