Notre Dame Football 2010.......The Brian Kelly Era Begins
-
sherm03Not surprised that Rudolph and Floyd are testing the waters. Very common for juniors to do that...even if it's just to see what they need to work on during their senior year.
I think Rudolph's injury this year could go either way. At first, I figured he would absolutely be back next year after being out almost all year. But no other tight ends made a whole lot of noise, and he's still considered one of the best TEs in the country. Besides that, I'm wondering if he's worried about risking another injury next year and really hurting his stock.
Floyd has improved his route running...but is still nowhere near NFL ready, IMO. But that doesn't matter. The kid is an amazing talent, and a team would take on that project.
The only thing that I think will definitely keep them playing is a lockout...but I guess we'll see. -
karen lotzPre injury Rudolph was projected as the highest TE drafted this year. There has been a TE drafted in the first round of the draft every year since 1999 (I believe) so it would make sense for him to leave if he's still in that range. I think the next TE wasn't projected until late 3rd or early 4th.

Good get. I assume they are still in the mix for the CB from Akron SVSM right? If they can land him, I think that is a pretty solid defensive backfield class.Tobias Fünke;590563 wrote:Texas CB Bennett Okotcha (Cam McDaniel's teammate and former Wisconsin commit) has decomitted from Wisconsin and committed to Notre Dame.

He's big and fast. Let's see how they develop him. -

http://www.irishsportsdaily.com/football/3846-planning-the-preparationOnce the Irish arrive in El Paso, Kelly will also have to worry about balancing his players having a good time against making sure they stay out of trouble and keep themselves ready. Kelly believes his experiences in Toronto and Miami, where there was a nude beach in the team hotel, will help him.
“You want to make sure your guys are having a very, very good time, but you can’t be out until 3 in the morning,” he said.
Also, Wisconsin, even with Okotcha's committing to Notre Dame, has told Savon Huggins they are full and cannot have him. His official visit has been canceled. Great news for us.
Watch a highlight film of this guy. Wood/Huggins would give Notre Dame some running backs with a ceiling as high as anyone in the country.

FYI...Notre Dame's class is now up to #7 on Scout, #12 on Rivals, and #11 on ESPN. -
Tobias FünkeCan you tell I'm pulling an all-nighter and am procrastinating?
Check out this kid from the '12 class. I know, it's a year early, but this kid will be ridiculous. Florida just offered him. He is Ronald Darby, a 5'11 ATH from Maryland. He ran a 4.37 at various camps his sophomore year. He is legitimate sub-4.4 speed. His best listed time after his sophomore year was a 4.36. I'm sure plenty of camps this summer, heading into his senior year, will confirm it.
He lists his top three as Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Florida. Since North Carolina is about to get shit on by the NCAA, bet your ass this turns into yet another Florida vs. Notre Dame battle.
His sophomore year:

Competition looks like it's the TAAC ( ), but the speed is genuine.
Edit: EJ Banks has left Notre Dame. Apparently academic. -

Also, staff is visiting Cameron Clear, a four-star OT from Tennessee, tomorrow. His dad was stoked and said they were "honored" that Notre Dame was interested in him. Apparently he's wide open at this point.
Ishaq Willians (#2 DE in the country) visited today. Christian Williams (#13 ATH) announces his pick between Iowa, Notre Dame, and Oregon tomorrow. Amir Carlisle (#10 RB) visits Friday. Big, big week. -
Hamp89Christian French announces at 4pm today, and rumors are he's picking Oregon, and Iowa is out for sure.
-
Tobias FünkeThe rumors yesterday were that it was between Iowa and Notre Dame. I don't think anyone knows.

Tobias FünkeOregon is it. Fuuuuuuuck.

Yep, that sucks. I wouldn't surprised if the possibility of him not playing WR at Notre Dame was the deciding factor. Good get for the other Kelly, best of luck to French. -
karen lotzDefensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator Chuck Martin is drawing some interest to fill the Northern Illinois head coaching vacancy. This would not be good for Notre Dame. He will be a head coach in the future (already was successful at Grand Valley State) but losing him after only one year in South Bend would be a big blow to the coaching staff.
-
Tobias FünkeIn my opinion that's a bad move. He sticks around a few years and Notre Dame may do big things and he'd get a BCS program offer.
-
karen lotzWell its not like he accepted the job or anything, his name is just being mentioned with a few others. One of them is a former NIU player who is an assistant at Rutgers who is thought to be the first choice and I can't recall who the 3rd is right now.
-
Tobias FünkeThere's a Hawaiian DE prospect who just got a forth star from some of the recruiting bases. Has offers from the good Pac-10 schools, USC, Oregon, Stanford as well as Nebraska.
He is 6'4 250 with a 4.8 forty. Looks to me like a kid you could have bulk up to 300lbs and make a quick DT, personally.
The reason I bring it up is that he grew up a Notre Dame fan, and Notre Dame has snagged three of the top players from Hawai'i as of late. However he hasn't seen an offer yet.
Someone call Brian Kelly please.
Also, from the internetz:
French, for me, was always 33/33/33 with our chances. I like our chances with Ishaq (I'd say they're 60/40, and Huggins 51/49)Mike Farrell was on Rivals radio today and stated ND leads for Ishaq, and pulled into a tie with Rutgers for Huggins. -
karen lotzDo you have a name or are you going the ccrunner route? We'll just call him Player A?
-
Tobias Fünkehaha my bad, Lake Koa-Ka'ai
-
Tobias Fünke.....and don't ever associate me with ccrunner again! hahaha
Unless it's about politics. -

karen lotzI read that earlier today, good recap of the possibilities still out there. I also saw a tweet a few hours ago saying Kelly offered the #1 long snapper in country today, but I don't recall the name.
