Notre Dame Football 2010.......The Brian Kelly Era Begins

This is sorta how it went down:

    Haters:
Kelly is ~.500 his first year! He cannot win on this level.
    Me:
He not doing any worse than plenty of big time coaches to provide any evidence that he cannot win on the level. On the contrary, he has won at three different programs on three different levels on competition (D-II, non-BCS conference, BCS conference). Jim Tressel, who is a tremendous coach, went 2-9 his first season at Youngstown State and 7-5 at Ohio State. Nick Saban won six games each in his first two seasons at Michigan State and went 7-6 at Alabama his first season. Mack Brown went 1-10 not only his first season at Tulane but also his first two seasons at North Carolina. Pete Caroll went 6-6 his first season at Southern Cal.

It is pretty freakin' obvious there are plenty of Hall of Fame coaches who, when challenged with turning around a program, do not have instant success.
When someone (not sleeper, he shouldn't be on here anymore) can provide some legitimate criticism of Brian Kelly's coaching ability (spare us the Declan Sullivan comments) then we can have a conversation. "Notre Dame has been terrible for twenty years" is not only untrue, but it has very little to do with the future of the program.

There goes your 4 TD plus thing. Nice job avoiding being called out for comparing Kelly to Tressel. Again, why are you posting on this thread?

Only in South Bend do we talk about close losses as if they are wins. ND LOST THE GAME, they lose many games, time to get over it.

Only in Columbus do people backpedal as fast as you have been since last night. You have been proven wrong countless times but fail to acknowledge it and just change the subject to something else. You even called yourself out for comparing Tressel to Kelly and all you can say is something else which isn't true.

I know a guy in Columbus who thinks that losing a bet closely is a win. 7-5 is not 6-6 you cheap fuck, run along.

Also, I wasn't talking about the MSU/ND game as a win for ND. You said:

Do you understand how the scoring in football works? 4 TDs is not 3 points.

If we had a nickel for the amount of ND predictions that were wrong over the past 20 years, we'd probably have enough money to pay back the national debt. 7-5 is a terrible season, don't try to spin it any other way.

Terrible season or not, you were wrong and lost the bet. Don't try to spin that any other way. Instead sit on a cock and spin.

At least killer, karen, and I manned up when we lost our bet.

Are you that big of a loser Sleeper? You have that little of a life that you have to troll ND threads...even after you lost a bet where you said you wouldn't anymore? Seriously, you're a punk.

Texas RB Cam McDaniel confirms with Irish Sports Daily that he has been offered a scholarship by the University of Notre Dame.
BK and Kerry Cooks stayed in CA to recruit after the game Saturday and then made a stop in Texas on the way home.

This week will see plenty of recruiting surprises. The staff is all over the country this week. I expect McDaniels to commit and replace Hayes well.

Huggins, French, and Williams are the big names right now. Snagging those three would be huge.

Amir Carlisle, Cali RB and Stanford verbal, picked up an offer. Official visit Dec. 10
Bennett Okotcha, Texas CB and Wisconsin verbal, picked up an offer.
Cam McDaniel, Texas RB and BIG Notre Dame fan, picked up an offer.

Cam McDaniel has committed. One of his teammates also received an offer.

As of 12:29, Cam McDaniel has committed to Notre Dame. Knew it'd be quick.

    Yeah I think it's Okotcha.
  • karen lotz
Yeah I assume it is Okotcha too, the first tweet I saw just said one of his teammates was offered with no name given.

I guess it's 50/50 on whether of not Notre Dame goes to the Champs Sports Bowl or not. They are thinking about saving it for 2011 if Notre Dame doesn't make a bowl, since they know Notre Dame will probably be greatly improved and quite formidable next season. In essence they don't want to waste the pick this year and be left scrambling if they are 8-4 next year.
  • karen lotz
Fuck em then. Hopefully ND burns them by making a BCS game next year.
  • rock_knutne
Here's a good read from ISD on where ND could potentially end up if the Champs Sports Bowl falls through:

ND still has a good chance to play in either the Sun Bowl or Holliday Bowl, both of which are good bowl games. It all depends on what happens in the Pac 10.

I think it's a legitimate shot. Assuming everyone possible comes back and we have any life at QB.

South Florida - Holtz is a great coach but I don't see him overcoming the talent differential.
@ Michigan - Scares me. But more depth than they do and a very solid defense is a W.
Michigan State - Biggest game of the year. Their offense plays right into Notre Dame's defense though.
@Pittsburgh - Ehhh, I don't see Pittsburgh doing anything special. Will Baldwin leave?
    @Purdue - No way.
Air Force - Not a bad team, but I don't think it'll be a problem.
    BYE
Southern Cal - With a BYE week, at home,
Navy - No Dobbs and Notre Dame's defensive lesson, win.
    @Wake Forest - Maybe 50-0.
    Maryland - See Wake.
Boston College - No offense for BC. Win.
@Stanford - TOUGH call. Will Harbaugh be there? With no Luck, we might me in luck. :) Although we said the same thing with no Gerhart. :(

There is not a team there Notre Dame has no chance of beating. I think the toughest game is Michigan State. Only game I see no chance of losing is Wake Forest.

Yes yes yes yes, I know it's freakin' dumb to project anything right now. But rest assured Notre Dame and Champs Sports Bowl are right now. Notre Dame will have a good record next year and Champs Sports doesn't want to pick us this year because if they do they cannot, by rule, take us the next few years.

    Hello Sun Bowl?

    Hello Sun Bowl?

The Sun Bowl is dependent on what happens in the Pac 10 this weekend.

As for next year, the schedule lends the possibility of having a great year but they'll need to stay injury free for that to happen. We know Te'o isn't going anywhere, he said he would see out his four years at ND. Floyd IMO has to come back to improve his draft stock and Rudolph is injured which should bode well for a return for his senior year. They'll need to replace both Walls and Gray at the corners and both guys played pretty damn good this year.
