slingshot4everThe more I think about it, who cares if PSU wins east and goes on to win big 10....they would still have two losses and we would have beaten wisky, neb, um, oklahoma; while they have a loss to Pitt and UM....we would still be top ranked big ten team so long as we win out

ironman02Michigan will win out until they face the Buckeyes. Hopefully OSU will have taken care of business up until that point as well. If that's the case, the Bucks need to beat Michigan and they'll be heading to Indy since they'll win the three-way tiebreaker. PSU will probably drop another game anyway.
As for last night, there are a lot of problems that need fixed, and need fixed now. The offensive line play was piss poor, especially Prince. JT doesn't have a prayer if he's running for his life constantly. The OSU WRs are absolutely never open though. I''ll come back to that. Despite those deficiencies, special teams play is what cost OSU the game. Getting a punt and FG blocked on consecutive possessions when you're protecting a lead, and gift-wrapping 10 points for PSU is inexcusable. The blocked FG is entirely on Urban though. He absolutely should have used a timeout and made sure that the most important play of the game wasn't rushed. Obviously, rushing that kick led to a complete fucking disaster.
There are many underlying problems here though. The first is the offensive staff's complete inability to make adjustments or adapt to adversity. I know that as a play caller, you're kinda handcuffed when your WRs don't get open and your O-Line isn't playing well. But it seemed as though there was never an effort to throw slants/outs, or screen passes to avoid or slow down the pass rush. Just the same old predictable stuff. The fact that Curtis Samuel had TWO FUCKING CARRIES is absolutely mind-boggling to me. The guy doesn't touch the football until the 2ndQ, scores on a 74 yard TD run, then gets one more carry the rest of the game, which is just is absurd. They did throw him the ball a few times, but for Weber to get 21 carries and Samuel (your best play maker) to get 2, is just unacceptable. I don't want them to force the ball to him and completely mess up the flow of the offense, but you need to game plan to get your most explosive player involved. Simple as that.
The next problem, as mentioned earlier, is that Zach Smith is shit. The guy can recruit, but I think he leaves a lot to be desired as an Xs and Os coach. He needs to stay the fuck off Twitter and learn how to teach his WRs to get the fuck open against man coverage.
And finally, Warriner and Beck just seem clueless to me. Both are great coaches, I'm sure, but they are not play-callers. Urban is ultimately responsible for getting these guys to attack the weaknesses in opponent defenses, play to the strengths of their personnel, and get the ball in the fucking end zone. OSU is lucky to have Urban and he's 56-5, which is unreal, but he's not perfect. He deserves part of the blame for this offense looking like garbage for the good part of two seasons now. I believe that the Buckeyes could very well run the table and sneak into the playoff, but the talent needs to be utilized and things need to start clicking NOW. -
SportsAndLady^ I wouldn't be so sure PSU loses again, their schedule is cake to end the year.

That may be true, but as long as Michigan doesn't slip up before The Game, the Bucks are in good shape.SportsAndLady;1818091 wrote:^ I wouldn't be so sure PSU loses again, their schedule is cake to end the year. -

I was listening to him and have no clue how he could stay with Prince. Urban kind of avoided the questions about everything I wanted to know about. Like the line and the receivers. Why did they not get him help over there when they saw he could not handle anyone that was in front of him? Our backups must be horrible.Benny The Jet;1818224 wrote:http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2016/10/75797/presser-bullets-urban-meyer-recaps-ohio-states-loss-at-penn-state-previews-home-matchup-with-northwestern

Strange interview. The line was garbage, the special teams was garbage and the play calling was garbage. I thought the defense showed up well enough and did its job, but you can't have special teams errors like that and expect to win championships.Benny The Jet;1818224 wrote:http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2016/10/75797/presser-bullets-urban-meyer-recaps-ohio-states-loss-at-penn-state-previews-home-matchup-with-northwestern

This is probably the, at worst, 2nd most talented team in the country with the best coach in the country. We should make mince meat out of teams like Penn State. -

They aren't horrible but the entire team is raw and inexperienced beyond a select few.mcburg93;1818226 wrote:I was listening to him and have no clue how he could stay with Prince. I'm not an O-line guy, but do we think Prince and Jones are talented but need coaching, or are they garbage players? -
Benny The Jet
I'd go with talented but need coaching. I'd like to hire a new OC, and get Ed back down on the field and work exclusively with the line again.sleeper;1818229 wrote:They aren't horrible but the entire team is raw and inexperienced beyond a select few.

I was talking with more emotion than common sense. I think they are talented, just need some coaching. I still think coaching had a big part in it being as bad as it was. They had to see Prince was being blown up every single play. Why did they not get him some help or run away from that side?sleeper;1818229 wrote:They aren't horrible but the entire team is raw and inexperienced beyond a select few.

The special teams is on Urban. He avoided the question when asked why they didnt call a time out. He just said that Durbin has always done good in those situations in practice. The damn field goal was at a point in the game that it mattered. Taking extra time to make sure it is done correctly would have been nice. -
ironman02The loss of Malcolm Pridgeon before the season really hurt OSU's depth on the offensive line. He was a JUCO guy who I think would have progressed quicker than some of the other guys. Some of the other O-linemen have dealt with injuries that have also set back their development. Right now, I think Prince is probably the most game-ready of the guys who could potentially play, but he's still learning as well. He's talented, but obviously needs to get better. To me, it seems like the new guys on the line may have played over their head early in the season, and now we're seeing what I kind of expected from the start...Elflein and Price are solid, but the other guys are just inexperienced.
I'm really looking forward to when Mack and Victor are ready to roll. Those guys, plus adding Grimes and Lindsey (and maybe even Jaylen Harris) next year, is something the Buckeyes desperately need. Should be nice to get Gibson back as well, because at this point, I'm not so sure that McLaurin, Campbell, Clark, or Dixon are ever gonna develop into the players we hoped they would be. Also, I'd like to start seeing more of KJ Hill.
Not calling a timeout to get ready for that FG attempt is probably the worst decision Urban has made since he came to OSU. Just a terrible mistake that ended up costing the Buckeyes the game. -

I'd have to go with not giving it to Hyde in the B1G Champ game vs. MSU on that 4th and 1...still confused by that one. But that lack of using a TO is right there with it.ironman02;1818236 wrote: Not calling a timeout to get ready for that FG attempt is probably the worst decision Urban has made since he came to OSU. Getting a kick and punt blocked is always inexcusable. Lol I don't care if we're protecting a lead or not.ironman02;1818089 wrote: special teams play is what cost OSU the game. One thing about penn st, I think they always have superior athletes even when they're bad. Just like Michigan. They get great recruits and even when the coaches suck you can't take that game for granted.
I didn't get to see this game but it seems to me that when we lose we can't make adjustments for shit.ironman02;1818089 wrote: The first is the offensive staff's complete inability to make adjustments or adapt to adversity.
I was amazed at whatever adjustments they made in the second half against Wisconsin because they certainly did something right there.
