Disagree. Bucks proved last year they will turn it on when it counts, and they're already proving that this year (demolishing Michigan).

Top 4 teams need in the playoffs, if bama can't beat a bad Florida team, they shouldn't be in the final four.

OSU is definitely one of the top 4 teams. A loss against a top 5 team shouldn't keep them out.

But if it does, I wouldn't be upset. Sometimes you're just not going to make it in. It happens.

May just gave ND props for beating Pitt lol

Now I am reading a decent amount that UNC beating Clemson would catapult them into the top 4. Maybe Florida over Alabama is the only way OSU gets in. I'm prepared for Rose against Stanford.

We'll know more Tues....If UNC is 8 then they'll jump OSU....but I believe they'll be #10 and no way jump them.

Even if Clemson were to lose their conference championship they should be in as they are without question one of the 4 best teams in the country.

They would have far and away the best resume of the 1 loss teams, and should not be penalized for actually having made their conference championship game unlike some teams.

If we start rewarding teams for when they lose instead of who they beat we might as well blow up the whole thing because it is a sham.

Would be really interesting. No way Stanford gets in over OSU though, two losses is two losses

When you lose has always been factored into college football rankings. The committee is looking for teams who finish up strong. Clemson had a bad game yesterday against an awful South Carolina team. If Clemson were to lose next week, I don't see them getting in.

Mark Richt fired. Tom Herman needs to be the first person called.

And also I'm seeing sports writers on twitter saying it's a bad decision or unfortunate. They haven't won the SEC since 2005 and haven't even represented the East over the last 3 years when it has sucked. They've been snake bitten with Gurleys and Chubbs' injuries the last few years, but that happens in college football.

It would be pretty bad, unless they win the whole thing which I think they are certainly capable of it.

If you can't win the East, which is the worst division in CFB, then you have a problem. Seriously, would anyone bet against Indiana or Illinois winning the SEC East?

Herman would be a great hire. However the is something about Georgia that tells me it is a hamstrung job. The program has underachieved since 1980 for all intents and purposes. I don't know why that is, but part of me thinks it has to do with location. That could be overcome. However I think Herman could step into a better job is he waits. Just my two cents.

Richt to Miami seems like the obvious move.

What? They lost last week and missed their chance guaranteeing a trip to the conference championship.
  • friendfromlowry
IMO, the system is too new to have a really confident feeling in what the committee will do if Clemson & 'Bama lose. I think if Clemson gets destroyed along with Alabama losing, OSU will be in. If the committee has to replace just one team next weekend and Stanford looks great, they could overtake OSU. Don't think UNC, regardless of what they do against Clemson, will jump into the top four, though.

Yeah, last year means absolutely nothing.

Just meant last year they turned it on around here, and I believe they would this year as well, if the committee puts them in the playoff.

Two ESPN'ers who basically stalk the CFP committee say that Long has told them that they don't look into the future and speculate and that conference championships are important to them(they showed us that last year with the Big 12).

If this is the case...Oklahoma should be #1 this week. The only current conference champion in the nation.

Too many bowls, not enough teams at .500 or better. Hope you are ready for bowls with teams at 5-7.
On Saturday, Kansas State (5-6) hosts West Virginia, Georgia State (5-6) visits Georgia Southern; and South Alabama (5-6) hosts Appalachian State. Any of those 5-6 teams that win will earn a bowl berth. The 5-6 teams that lose will create additional openings for more 5-7 bowl teams.

There could be as many as 17 teams with five wins in contention for getting a bowl berth. If the committee recommends selecting the teams based on best APRs, here are the top five-win teams based on the 2013-14 APR data, the most recent available, which will be used by the NCAA:
    985 -- Nebraska (5-7)
    976 -- Missouri (5-7)
    976 -- Kansas State (5-6)
    975 -- Minnesota (5-7)
    975 -- San Jose State (5-7)
    973 -- Illinois (5-7)
    973 -- Rice (5-7)

There are way too many bowls. I remember when 8-3 or 9-2 often had teams borderline for bowls. It used to be a reward for a good season.

Maybe because I know football season is almost over, but I will watch any shitty football team play in a bowl. Obviously I'll watch the better teams if they are on, but if the only game on is Indiana state vs northern Kansas I'm fucking watching it.

Totally agree. Who cares if bowl games USED to be a reward for a good season. Outside of 1 game in the BCS era, and 3 games now, bowl games don't mean anything anyways. So now, they are just a reward for the fans of college football to give them a few extra weeks of football before we're stuck in one of the most boring times of the sports calendar year.

Back in my day a bowl game used to MEAN SOMETHING!
  • Azubuike24
Bowl pools make every bowl game entertaining. Personally, I don't give a shit who wins unless I bet on them.

I believe they mean Conference Championship games are important, which hurts the Big 12.

That is not what they say, though. They say "conference championships" and not "conference championship games."
Principles. The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
    • Conference championships won,
    • Strength of schedule,
    • Head-to-head competition,
    • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
    • Other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.
