Wasn't it you like three weeks ago who said LSU sucks and will finish last in the SEC west?Azubuike24;1668347 wrote:Yes, because LSU SUCKS. They are only 7-2 with losses to #1 and #3.
I do agree, Ole Miss should probably be around 6 to 9. However, if these rankings are anything what we will see going forward, head to head wins WILL matter most. That means Oregon over MSU, FSU over Notre Dame, Ole Miss over Bama, etc...all may influence the rankings regardless of how those teams look on a week to week basis.
If this holds suit, Ole Miss could win out and squeak by every win. Alabama could blow everyone else out, and may still find themselves behind Ole Miss because of that loss. -

I hate ND and thought this was funny. How is ND #10? They are 4th at worst.ernest_t_bass;1668236 wrote:Lol. Norte Dame pretty much beat #2... And they're 10th? Lol. SEC! SEC! SEC! -
sleeperAnyway, SEC.
I doubt 3 teams get in from that conference but 2 is probably likely at this point. -

Conferences don't win titles. Teams that win titles don't carry over from year to year. None of these are relevant to the current season.IggyPride00;1668225 wrote:6 National titles in 7 years (7 appearances in 7 years) tells us all we need to know about the consistent strength of the SEC.
The quality of football played in that conference is unquestioned for good reason. -
namod65I also think the preseason rankings are inflated and the hype around have too much influence on this situation. A&M and SC being over-hyped at the beginning of the year is the root cause. Neither are good teams yet they certainly helped propel the Mississippi schools to the top from out of no where. Alabama is another that's benefited from preseason hype. They aren't nearly as good this year yet are still riding the hype from two years ago. They got blown out by Oklahoma last year yet no one remembers that. And then Ole Miss gets major props for beating them. Ole Miss couldn't do anything against LSU. Wisconsin had full control over LSU but shot themselves in the foot. But Ole Miss is still #3?
Sleeper actually makes a good point. The only thing relevant to this season is what happens this year. -

So you want to forget preseason rankings(or ignore them to an extent) but want to remember last year??namod65;1668573 wrote:I also think the preseason rankings are inflated and the hype around have too much influence on this situation. Makes complete sense. -

A lot of the logic of pre-season rankings is how the team did last year and how much of their team is returning + incoming recruits. He's saying that even when the teams do poorly the year before, they still end up ranked highly in the preseason during the next year because SEC. Essentially, you could never win a relevant game outside of your conference, including your bowl game, and still end up ranked year in year out.wildcats20;1668578 wrote:So you want to forget preseason rankings(or ignore them to an extent) but want to remember last year??

Something has to change; I say make every SEC team have to schedule a game against a Big Ten school every year and when they end up .500 year in year out we will easily show that the SEC is nothing special. Seriously, Indiana would win the SEC East and I bet Wisconsin, PSU, MSU, Nebraska, and OSU would fair just as well as any team in the SEC West. -

Maybe 5th or 6th. It was pretty clear Arkansas is the worst. If LSU loses 2 more, they may very well finish 6th.
Point is, people talk like they are severely overrated. However, they are 7-2 with some quality wins and although they got rolled by Auburn, their losses are to teams with 1 total loss. -
believerBut wait...I thought the 4-team playoff system was going to even the playing field, eliminate bias, and make things fair?
Step in the right direction though. First step to an 8-team playoff. The Power 5 conference champions get automatic bids. Give one slot to the highest ranked mid-major team and there would be 2 at-large teams. The selection committee will choose those 2 teams based on similar criteria being used today. If an "independent" like Notre Dame is ranked in the Top 5, they get one of the at-large bids automatically. -
sportchampps8 team playoff still has 3 sec teams most likely

Maybe for the first year but when people realize the SEC isn't an NFL conference they won't get that every year. I wouldn't care if the SEC got 3 teams in provided you gave a bid to each conference champion.sportchampps;1668694 wrote:8 team playoff still has 3 sec teams most likely -
HitsRusI don't think anybody will be happy until each conference champ is in the playoff.
6 team playoff with each conference champ and an at-large team which could be an independent team, a mid major that is having a fantastic season, or a conference runner up.
You wanna spot? ....win your damn conference.
This should be a tournament of champions....and if you are not at least# 6 and not a champ, GTFO.
If these guys put 3 teams from one conference in a 4 team playoff...I'm not watching.
No SEC circle jerks. -

I'm actually ok with that. It's possible the 3 best teams in the country are from the SEC but I want teams from other conferences having a shot at it.sportchampps;1668694 wrote:8 team playoff still has 3 sec teams most likely
I'm also ok with the B1G champion being left out of this year's playoff if there are 4 teams who are better. I am willing to concede that MSU losing to Oregon, Wisconsin losing to LSU and OSU losing to VT could make the B1G one of the power conference Champs that doesn't get in. As long as they don't put undeserving SEC teams in. -

It's very possible that two playoff teams could be the SEC champ and the SEC west runner-up.FatHobbit;1668950 wrote: As long as they don't put undeserving SEC teams in.
Look, if those are 2 of the 4 best teams, so be it. Like you said Hobbit, The B1G had their chance to prove it and they failed. Auburn went out and played KSU and won, LSU went out and played Wisco and won, Oregon went out and played MSU and won. The other conferences have done what they needed to do.
But guess what: it's not even November and if there's anything we've learned, chaos tends to unfold in the 11th month and help the B1G. -

The SEC west runner up will have also had their chance. Why don't people get this. Two teams who played during the regular season should not be in the playoff. We already saw the result of their game. Michigan state should not be in if Oregon is. Auburn should not be in Miss. St. is. Notre Dame should not be in if Florida State is. We have already seen those results.lhslep134;1668960 wrote:It's very possible that two playoff teams could be the SEC champ and the SEC west runner-up.

I tend to agree with you, but what if Oregon doesn't win the pac 12? Can MSU get in then? That also doesn't make sense to me. (That MSU might deserve to get in depending on who wins the pac 12)superman;1669031 wrote:The SEC west runner up will have also had their chance. Why don't people get this. Another issue I have with that, what if Notre dame's only loss this year was at Florida State and they almost pulled off the win. (I thought it was pass interference, and I don't want to argue that here, but they were definitely in it right until the end) Is there no way they deserve to be in the tournament on a neutral field? -
Azubuike24I think we can all agree that if FSU wins out and ND only loses one, it's a travesty if they aren't in. I was shocked when they were 10th...
