Fantasy College Basketball 2014-15

If anyone who is thinking of joining wants to see a spreadsheet from a week from last year just PM your email and I'll send it. I still have all weeks saved on my computer. I don't know if maybe seeing the scoring to go along with the things Mulva/Azu would help or not but couldn't hurt haha.

    Keeping the dream alive.

    Let's start finalizing the rules/scoring/etc.

That all needs to be in place before the draft this year. Including how many teams are making the playoffs. No switching in week 8 again.
  • Azubuike24
Lets hash it out. Here are my ideas.

I like the playoff format we had. 6 make it. Unless we somehow get 16 teams, but with 10-12 teams, 6 is plenty. 4v5 and 3v6 face off, 1 and 2 get a bye.

I'm also in favor of having expanded rosters, but not starting everyone. I'm imagining having 15 players per team, but only 12 starters, with the same positions as last year (4 G, 4 F, 2 C and 2 UT). You're extra 3 spots, are your "subs." Players can be added or dropped at any time, but once a guy is dropped, you can't EVER pick him back up. Use your 3 subs wisely.

I'm also in favor of adding a second wild card player. Especially if we have larger rosters. This allows a wider variety of teams to be involved.

Position limits and game limits. Last year the biggest issue was the unbalanced schedules. It's somewhat disheartening when you lose because you only had 20 games and your opponent had 24, despite you having better quality. This year, we limit it to 2 games per starting spot. So, if we have 12 active roster spots, each position can only play 2 games. So, you can use your subs and you can rotate guys in positions, but everyone will have the chance to play an equal number of games each week barring an injury.

Obviously, with the buy-in increasing, we have the potential to either pay the $80 to use upgraded Fantrax or create some other creative ways to earn prizes. We could have like an All-American team, POY, ROY, best individual game, best individual average, best total points, etc. At $40 per team, we have at least $400 to play with.

I like the idea of 2 wild cards.

Also like the game limit, but it seems like that would be tough to manage. What if your starting 12 has 28 games scheduled? Who is going to be in charge of tracking points for only the first 24 games? Or can Fantrax cut it off automatically? Same thing with adding/dropping players. Who is going to monitor whether a team adds a player they have previously dropped?

I am completely in favor of keeping the same positions and scoring structure.
  • Azubuike24
You can set Fantrax to allow a number of games per scoring period. You can either have 2 scoring periods per week (like M-THUR, F-SUN) or just 1. So, we could do that either way, but Fantrax would stop scoring after you got 2 games from a given roster spot.

The only drawback is...once the guy plays, he's locked for that spot. So if your best player only has 1 game, he would be locked in say, the C spot for the whole week, if we did the weekly scoring period. In that case, you would probably want to gauge whether it would be worth to play the guy with 2 games in that spot when the rosters lock.

What were the major conferences we used last year? Sorry if it has been posted already.
  • Azubuike24
Last year I believe we used Pac 12, SEC, ACC, Big East, AAC, Big Ten, Big XII, A-10, C-USA, Mountain West, WCC and Missouri Valley.
  • Laley23
If a player is locked in, we have to limit it to 24 games per team...regardless of roster. That, or have it be possible to sub him out after the 1st game.

I think its going to be really hard to make it so everyone plays the same amount of games each week. I think the best thing is just to do it based on points/games played.

It shouldn't be tough. If we have 3 bench players, you can get your 24 games in a week easily. The hard part is making it so we can do it via fantrax. Is there really not a way to set the amount of total games? Only the amount per position?
  • Azubuike24
If we make rosters 15 total, 12 starting spots, everyone SHOULD have the opportunity to play 24 games a week. There might be a time where it's 23, but still. Single game weeks aren't very frequent in college and with the 2 games per spot rule, nobody will ever play more than 24.

BTW, I'd love to start the draft next weekend. Maybe like Saturday or Sunday. Lets get the final tally of entrants going. Right now we have 10 @ $40.
  • GOONx19
Can we nail down if scoring will be the same so I can start ranking players? I didn't have any issues with it last season.

    I thought Rec made 11.

I didn't have a problem with it either. Although someone could probably really exploit it if they put the work in to research players with a lot of non conf games.

I'm okay with average score, too. I think that's the best way imo.
  • birddog23
I'd like to keep the scoring as same as last year. And I am ok with AZ's idea of some bench players so we can all try to get the max games.

Also would love to get this draft rolling next weekend!

I guess what I am asking is more for when we have guys playing 3 games a week. I am ok with using your bench player even if he isnt as good over your starter because its 2 games vs 1 game. That isnt as big of a deal.

But, when we have pre-season tournaments or, in general, a week with 3 games. How do we pick what 2 games our player is scored for? I think it would be nice to be able to pick out what 2 games he is playing in/being scored for as opposed to simply just scoring the first 2 games of the week...
