MARCH MADNESS 2014 - NCAA Tourney Thread

  • reclegend22
I guess I picked Oklahoma State as well, so I need three lower seeds to win. I feel pretty good about that number given the chaos of yesterday. Normally after an upset-driven day like that on Thursday, Fridays games are somewhat more tame. We'll see.

Really looking forward to Creighton-Lafayette at 3:10. If the Jays don't implode in that one, I like their chances to go deep.

I like ULL +14, but Creighton to win.

Im pretty excited about it as well. Doug McDermott deserves nothing less than a S16 date to solidify himself on the big stage as one of the greats of all time. If he goes out in RD1 or RD2, his career will have a gaping hole, imo.

Even losing to Wisconsin/Oregon in the S16 will at least give him the shot to carry his team and have people remember him in a different light.

I agree with all of that. I felt the same way about Jimmer and he delivered, helping BYU take Florida to OT in the Sweet 16 and coming up just five minutes short of a chance to play for the Final Four. Jimmer in the Final Four would've been crazy good.

If Doug can lead Creighton to the Big Show at Cowboys Stadium, he'll officially go down as the legend that he already is.

Was 12/16, but have all my S16 teams still in. Was 7/8 going into the evening (fuck me for my fucking stoo-pid homer pick of OSU), but a couple of those comebacks hurt me. Or should I say collapse because you can't hit a fucking free throw, NC State?
  • gorocks99
I'm 14/16 in both brackets ... lost Oklahoma and NC State in one (most frustrating bracket ever), Ohio State and BYU (wtf was I thinking) in the other.

I was loving the NCST meltdown, for no other reason than Dwayne Evans is on my player-pick-em team. Had that not been the case, I wouldve taken NCST lol

Duke is definitely on upset alert today

Whys that? Would love to hear your insight

Anyone see Steve Fisher's rant on the NCAA last night after the win? Pretty valid opinion.

How well Mercer moves the ball around combined with good shooting, good size and good defensive positioning. Duke is terrible against teams that pass well

Mercer is really pretty good, and Duke isnt suffocating on defense. Plus, they are still the offense that likes to shoot and gives up dribble penetration. Its the same as every Duke team recently.

Talented enough to win it all, and they might. But to suggest they are a juggernaught who cant be beat by Mercer today is dumb

Yeah. The part about charter flights is stupid, but they should be allowed to stay the night and have a flight out the next morning.

If the NCAA was smart, they would just reserve the seats on a plane for the afternoon games the following day. Paying for an extra night in the hotel is trivial.

They should be able to accommodate a flight out the following morning, but I don't really think it's a big deal.

What mark in the video does it get interesting? Don't feel like watching 12 mins.

No clue, I heard about 4 minutes of it this morning on Mike and Mike.
  • wildcats20
The video starts at 1:32. It's only like 2-3 min of him ranting.

Just goes to show how big of a freaking crock the NCAA is.
  • dlazz
Duke living and dying by the three. Shocking.

    2 things:

    K did a halftime interview.

Dook started 7/14 from 3 and finished 8/21.

Steve Fisher sounded like Joe Biden.

I am utterly confused as to why a team would take 21 three pointers in the first half of a basketball game.

    1990-1991 UNLV?

-edit, or even better, Loyola Marymount

UNLV average 20 a game that season.

21 in a half is outrageous.

It's Duke. They shoot 3's and usually make them. All but 2-3 have been good looks and 1 was a last second full court heave.

Mercer shot 54% in the 1st half. Don't know if they can keep it up but impressive half offensively for them.
