Who's the last No. 1 seed?
-
reclegend22At this point, there's no way IMO that Duke doesn't get the last number one with a win over Virginia tomorrow, no matter what Michigan does. The Blue Devils have a better overall resume of wins and a head-to-head thumping of the Wolverines in their back pocket.
If Virginia wins tomorrow, I'm not sure how much their extremely poor performance in the non-conference will hurt them against Michigan, despite the ACC being stronger than the Big Ten and Virginia having won both the ACC's regular-season and tournament titles. It'll be interesting. -

Not that it matters much, but the people in Twitter (Goodman, Davis, Gottlieb, Katz et al) seem to think Michigan has it if they win. If they lose its Nova. Most seem to think Louisville and Duke dont have a good shot.reclegend22;1591029 wrote:At this point, there's no way IMO that Duke doesn't get the last number one with a win over Virginia tomorrow, no matter what Michigan does. Azubuike24The seeding doesn't always make sense, but Virginia, Duke or Michigan all have the resume to get a #1 over Louisville. Wins vs top 50 and top 100...
Virginia is 9-5 vs top 50, 14-6 vs top 100
Duke is 8-4 vs top 50, 14-6 vs top 100
Michigan is 8-5 vs top 50, 18-6 vs top 100
Louisville is 6-5 vs top 50, 7-5 vs top 100
It's not even close. IMO, the Duke/Virginia winner deserves it. -
Laley23I like Virginia, Michigan, Duke, LV in that order.
But, the way I see the games playing out, Duke would get it in my scenario. I like Duke and MSU tomorrow.
I would also take Kansas and Wisconsin, STILL, over LV as a #1. -
reclegend22I totally disagree with their opinions. If Michigan lost and Duke won, there is IMO no chance that Nova would get the one. Sometimes I really question how much these people really watch the sport they cover.
I know they do and generally know their stuff, but how could anyone, let alone a professional, who followed college basketball this season consider Villanova a more deserving one seed candidate than an ACC champion Duke? Aside from beating Kansas, the only thing Villanova did this season to even warrant being in this discussion is beat a whole bunch of pedestrian teams that they should've. There is nothing remarkable about Nova at all. -

These guys have sources, they wont say the committee has made up its mind, but I bet they are getting some info that Nova is in good shape behind UofM. They are then saying this as their own thoughts so they sound smart tomorrow.
At least, thats what I think, because about a week ago all these guys were saying Nova had the resume of a 3 seed...now they think they are a #1 with a Michigan loss... -
reclegend22
That makes sense, considering how out of left field the Nova predictions have come the last few days. All of a sudden the Wildcats are in the greatest team of all-time discussion. It's absurd.Laley23;1591059 wrote:I think it is way more of what we feared earlier.

If that in fact does happen and Nova gets a one seed, I will be rooting like hell for their departure from the tournament. Not that it will take much of an effort. They'll likely be gone by the conclusion of the first weekend. This Nova team is very similar to the 2010 version, which also didn't deserve a 1 or 2 seed. -
reclegend22But truth be told, as I've stated before, I would gladly welcome a two seed for Duke if it meant being paired with Nova in the East. Much more so than going south with Florida.

Well, if the 1s are as follows:reclegend22;1591065 wrote:But truth be told, as I've stated before, I would gladly welcome a two seed for Duke if it meant being paired with Nova in the East. Much more so than going south with Florida.
E - Nova
W - Zona
S - Fla
MW - WSU
Would the 2s be this??
E - LV (or Mich)
W - Kansas
S - Duke
MW - Virginia
I dont know if they do the s-curve when the geography doesnt work out or what. Who knows? -
MulvaVirginia does not have 9 top 50 wins.

I was basing that hope off previous mocks that weren't including Michigan or Nova in that 2 range. So yeah, in the above scenario, Duke's best bet to be paired with Nova in the East is to get the one seed.Laley23;1591070 wrote:Well, if the 1s are as follows:

I still am holding out in my belief that Duke will get it over Nova with a Michigan loss. We will see tomorrow. It'd be one of the most puzzling decisions the committee has ever made if Nova still got it, despite its lackluster resume and first-round loss in its conference tournament to the last seed. But whatever. What will be will be. -
reclegend22Looks like NCAA Tournament scientist Joe Lunardi now has Duke as his highest rated number two seed, followed by Wisconsin, Kansas and Villanova.
He is saying that Michigan, win or lose, will now be the number one seed, since, according to him, the committee (bizarrely) probably will not take the Big Ten final into consideration.
The committee needs to be fired and then a new committee hired that takes the Big Ten final into consideration. -

Yeah....dumbest thing ever. It would be hilarious if they put UM #1 and then MSU beats them 75-49 and then Duke or UVA is lights out.reclegend22;1591119 wrote:Looks like NCAA Tournament scientist Joe Lunardi now has Duke as his highest rated number two seed, followed by Wisconsin, Kansas and Villanova.

1. Zona
2. Wisky
3. Cuse
4. SDSU
5. OSU
Wisky is a weak 2, Cuse is a weakish 3, SDSU is a weak 4, OSU is a weak 5.....had UK at 6 -

At least it appears Villanova is finally out of the running for a one seed, as they should be. But yeah, the more I hear about the committee's methods, the bigger the joke it gets. I can't believe that some of those practices are allowed.Ironman92;1591127 wrote:Yeah....dumbest thing ever. I don't perceive Wisky as a weak 2. This might be the best team Bo Ryan has ever had. I could see them coming out of that bracket.Ironman92;1591131 wrote:Jesus....Lunardi has this in the West

A 16 won't come within 25 points of a 1 this year, due to so many upsets in conf tourneys. The 16 seeds are very weak.vball10set;1591181 wrote:Will this be the year a 16 beats a 1? -
PrescottIMO, home wins should not be part of the equation. I want to know who they beat away the friendly floor.Winning at home us expected.UM has 6 quality wins away from Ann Arbor. If they win today they would have 7.That is a pretty good number.
Pitino knows UL is not getting a #1 seed. He will use the "snub" to further motivate his team. -

In the conversation LJ was having about this (can't remember if it was this thread or another), this is what happens anyway. So if Michigan is the #1 right now, that shouldn't change, unless that notion is false.Ironman92;1591127 wrote:Yeah....dumbest thing ever. It wasn't a notion. The Committee chair Dubinski said it himself in a radio interview.WebFire;1591205 wrote:In the conversation LJ was having about this (can't remember if it was this thread or another), this is what happens anyway.
