Yeah the people who are excited or want Braxton to leave have no idea whats about to come our way if he does.
Cardale, hasn't thrown a pass in a real game, in like 3 years.
JT Barrett, hasn't played a single snap, in 2 years, and coming off an ACL
Stephen Collier- Senior in HS currently, rated as a 3 star.
Really want that instead of Braxton? Tells me all I need to know about you and your credibility.
Se wants Braxton to go because he wants to give Barrett a year of experience? LOL
We may not be national title contenders next year, but we can still easily make the Rose Bowl with Braxton...but no, we don't want that because we want to sacrifice the season to give Barrett a year of experience.
Some people really are idiots. -

TiernanDo I recognize that 24-2 after 6-7 is great?...yes I do but I'm not sure a lot of coaches in America couldnt have done the exact same thing with that schedule. All I'm saying is the "Genius that is Meyer" hasn't been really evident to me as of yet.

Exactly, lets go 6-7 again with a Freshman QB, all the while losing out on recruits, because Winning matters no matter you think.SportsAndLady;1562312 wrote:Meant to rep you for that earlier, so thanks for reposting so I can rep.

AutomatikI can't take anyone seriously that would prefer Barrett over Miller next year.
That's just asinine.

I've watched 4-5 practices and EVERY single one, JT has looked incredible. I honestly dont think (my opinion) that he couldn't have a Winston type effect next season. I'm sure people said the same thing about Jaimes when EJ left. I realize that it is still ridiculous to want him to start, and I realize Braxton is coming back so we are going to roll with him, but I just cant stand the way he plays in big games. I just don't like him. He can't throw. If he comes back and learns how to stop staring down his receivers, I will eat my words. If he doesn't, we'll have another season where we beat up on the crappy teams and lose to the only good teams we play.
Again, it's just my opinion, I just don't like how he plays. I prefered Kenny even if I knew Braxton was a better player because it seemed Kenny had a better handle of the entire O, not just the ability to run.
Oh, and I don't care what you think about my "creditability". I'm not a football expert, I'm just a fan, just like you. I support the team as much as anybody, but I think Braxton is incredibly overrated. If we play a team that he can run against then he is incredible, if he can't run, he's fucked because IMO I don't think he can't read a defense for crap. -
ohiobucks1centralbucksfan;1562298 wrote:Reps on that. Some people are really clueless. Yes, Braxton didn't play great last nite. But first give credit to Clemson, they had a great plan to contain his running. Second, our Oline didn't exactly protect him real well. He wasn't just bumped around, he was lit up on more than one occasion. But he sucked it up, and stayed in the game and did what he could do considering he was running for his life most of the time. I couldn't believe OSU wouldn't keep a RB in the backfrield to help with protection. I do like Herman as the OC...but I also scratch my head on occasion. But again, when your offense scores 35 pts, you should win the game, period. Our defense consistently put our offense in a situation to HAVE to score to stay in the game. That's a lot of pressure and unrealistic expectations. But again, after this entire season where the OSU offense literally shattered almost every offensive record in OSU history, I can't listen to people rip Braxton or our offense. Anyone with an ounce of common sense, knows where the major issue is. DUH
The D was bad last night, but the O/ ST was a big part of the reason we lost. If Philly Brown catches the punt up 9, we win. Simple as that. Everyone in the stadium could see it. The air was completely taken out of the team when he dropped that punt and they scored. It was over at that point. We were lucky that Clemson tried to Clemson themselves and let us back into the game.
Also, Herman absolutely should be getting way more shit than he is getting. He called WAY too many QB draws and designed Braxton run plays instead of feeding Hyde and doing what was working. We didn't go back to the TE a single time after the long TD pass (and we would have had 2 TD passes to TE if Braxton could throw).
The D was awful, don't get me wrong. THey didn't stop a bubble screen all game long. But I think it's unfair to say the D and D alone lost us the game. It also is IMO ridiculous to say that just because we set records doesn't mean that Braxton shouldn't get shit. We played quite possibly the worst schedule we have EVER played at OSU. We had a dominate O-line and a RB that had he been healthy would have been a heisman contender. We should have put up crazy numbers. We actually put up better numbers when Kenny played than when Braxton played (I understand he played worst teams, I only say so to note that a lot of the good numbers came when Braxton wasn't even in). The fact of the matter is, Braxton is not a good passer. He is an incredible runner and a great all around athlete, but not a great passer. Against teams with slow average defenses we can get away with being athletically superior. Against good D's we need a QB who can read a defense and make the correct throws. Braxton lost to the only two really good teams he played this year. Braxton has never won a bowl game. He just doesn't come to play in big games and even when he does (Wisconsin this year) he just doesn't pass the "look test", he misses throws that a good QB owould make.
He's coming back next year though, so I am going to try to get behind him. I hope he improves, I really do. But if we want a chance of winning it all next year, he's gotta learn to pass instead of just being a good runner, and it remains to be seen if he can do it. -

Basically the same opinion that many people as long as I can remember have had about every starting qb at osu except Smith's sr year. The guy behind is always better the next guy up is always better.ohiobucks1;1562380 wrote:

LJAlso, an interesting point made by a few insiders today is that the games Guiton started the gamelans and lay calling were completely different. No Hyde. Wanted the ball OUT of Guiton's hands. Etc

I've never been the type to say it though. I had TPs back to the end because he won big games. I didn't care what it looked like as long as we won against the best. Miller has yet to show me that he can win against a good to great team. I will say, I hope he improves a lot this offseason and makes me eat my words. I want OSU to win more than anything, if Miller gives us a better chance I really hope I am wrong. I just think from what I've seen, we need a QB who can throw. JT Barrett is the truth. CFB has shown in the last few yeras that young QBs can win as long as they can chuck the football. Two straight redshirt freshman have won Heismans, JT could have made it 3 . -

You're right. Braxton was awesome last night. Definitely championship caliber QB. I mean, he can throw the ball hard, that's really all that matters! -

This was OSU's first loss EVER when scoring 35 or more points. The Clemson game was not on Miller.ohiobucks1;1562396 wrote:I've never been the type to say it though. He can't throw, LJ. We would have had 2-3 more TD's with a QB who could throw. He missed a WIDE OPEN TE on one easy TD. He missed 3-4 read option hand offs that would have been firsts that we had to punt after, he had 3-4 passes batted down because he stairs down his receivers, etc etc. You're right though, the loss is not on just him. THere are a lot of culprits for the loss. However, I think if the QB's were switched, and we had Boyd, we absolutely win the game. He's legit. Much more so than Miller (at least last night). -
Lovejoy1984
I can accept that, because you acknowledge that its ridiculous to want him to start, regardless of how well he's looked in practice. Braxton was 16-24 or so on mostly downfield throws, we don't run many screens, so I don't understand why people continue to say he cannot throw. Could he use some touch on his throws? Yes, but for most of the time he placed the ball exactly where it needed to be, regardless of it looked.ohiobucks1;1562380 wrote:I've watched 4-5 practices and EVERY single one, JT has looked incredible. Kenny was a solid backup, but was a backup for a reason. He beat up on a couple "Sisters of the Poor" defenses and all of a sudden everyone in Buckeye Nation thinks we've got Peyton Manning backing up Braxton.
Also, you can't stand the way he played in big games? Last night he was by far the best player we had on Offense, and may have been the best player on our team regardless of side of the ball. He can't do it all, our OL was greatly exposed last night, and he was running for his life the entire game. -

Miller was playing with (the rumor going around ) 3 broken ribs and a partially separated shoulder. I'd say he threw just fineohiobucks1;1562406 wrote:He can't throw, LJ. It wasn't all on Miller, but when you hand the ball to the preseason Heisman favorite with over two minutes left in the game, he's got to get it done. Unless Braxton suddenly learns how to put touch on the ball and anticipate throws, he'll be the exact same QB next year. A great runner, and a below average passer.LJ;1562402 wrote:This was OSU's first loss EVER when scoring 35 or more points. The Clemson game was not on Miller. -
ohiobucks1LJ;1562409 wrote:Miller was playing with (the rumor going around ) 3 broken ribs and a partially separated shoulder. I'd say he threw just fine
He said after game that his throwing was not effected, just his running. That's the problem. When he can't run he's not very good. If a team has a good enough D to stop his running, we are in trouble and the last two games showed it. I don't agree that he threw just fine. He was fine on easy throws, he was very very average on everything else. Do you really think he did a good job of reading the defense last night? He literally had LBers intercept/bat down his throws 4-5 times just from reading his eyes. It was pathetic to watch. Kenny G absolutely does better last night IMO. -
LJOh and he had passes batted because for some reason our o-line let the clemson D line have their arms up and do whatever they wanted. That is a legitimate job of an o-lineman on pass plays is that they can't let the dlineman get up like that.
Also, the only play Kenny G was in he threw one of his floaters and Clemson batted it down easily. -
