And play a bad team. ;)

Michigan seemed disinterested and they are limited on offense.

Can someone explain Matta's substitution pattern. Lee didn't play at all, Diop got (1)minute, and Williams gets 11 minutes.I really don't understand Diop's lack of playing time.

Nobody can ever explain Thad's substitution patterns.

Lee didnt' deserve to see the floor. If you had watched the IU game, he missed a layup, and then stood and didn't run back on defense as IU scored in transition. Coaches were ready to kill him on timeout following that play. I'd like to see Diop get more minutes as well. Heard Matta on talk show couple weeks back and said he thought the light was starting to come on for Diop, but then hasn't gotten much time. But UM/IU being most perimeter types of team...Diop may have some defensive issues on the perimeter. Just a guess.

I saw Lee's lack of effort at Indiana. I would think that lack of effort would be addressed at practice.Maybe, Lee got a one-game suspension. He has been a disappointment.

Diop will get better if he gets some PT. Considering the game was a blowout there is little reason not to play Diop double-digit minutes.

Cam has been in a shooting slump, but I have no problem with him getting the opportunity to shoot himself out of the slump.

Agree on all accounts. And not that I am sticking up for Matta...but we don't see practices and don't know whats going on, on any given day. We only watch games and then criticize a coach for not doing this or that, or not playing someone, or playing someone. Any good coach, sends the message that if you produce in practice, you will see the floor. Its a competative sport wheren playing time is/should be earned.

I can assure you, Matta is a better substitution'er than Tom Crean.
  • Midstate01
I mean, they were up 30 at one point. So he was getting it right it'd seem. I'd also guess message sent to Lee for his effort at IU.

They played well last night. But still rushed some shots esp Russell when they were up big. Mich couldn't shoot for shit and Sam pretty much D up Levert. Tate is going to really really good if he continues to develop. Dude can d, board, shoot and gives max effort.

Ha ha...not sure that is saying much. Matta gets criticized for not using his bench and wearing down players. Which really is ridiculous in this day because with all the TV timeouts/regular timeouts, players have plenty of time to rest up. Not a factor IMO. And many don't understand matchups and situational substitutions either.

I, and every IU fan, wishes Crean was more like Matta. I see no reason a starter cant play 35+ minutes a game in college. Crean ROUTINELY goes 10+ deep in a game, and at the worst times he makes wholesale changes. Troy Williams has 2 rebounds and 3 baskets the last 4 trips down the court...he MUST be tired, take him out. Its awful.

I like using a bench, and developing it for the future (both in season and seasons to come), but Crean has no feel for anything. He actually has stated in the past he had a sub sheet and very rarely would deviate from it. This year, THANKFULLY, he is allowing his assistants to keep track of when it looks like guys are tired and they are in charge of a little bit more of the subbing. It has helped, as Yogi is getting about 35 minutes a game. But, its still ridiculous how much he puts in guys who have no business being on the floor.

Just the last 2 games, we have Rob Johnson playing his best game ever. 20 PTS and 7/11 from floor versus PSU...he gets 28 minutes. Zeisloft and Hoetzel come in and provide NOTHING on either end (in fact, they both dont know how to spell defense). Yet, they get 15 minutes combined in a game we win by 3.

Versus OSU, same type of thing. We played 9 guys...why did Stanford Robinson play more than 1 minute, let alone 11? And this was probably Creans BEST subbing effort I can ever remember lol. Troy still sat for too long. Needed to play 35+ like Yogi did.

Wholeheartedly agree. Could you imagine in high school basketball if we had TV timeouts in between the quarters?

    Dan Dakich every damn game.

Lol, feels like has called every B1G game on ESPN they've had

    Also, Shannon Scott sucks
  • Terry_Tate
Good job, good effort fellas. On to spring football action.
  • gerb131
Geez is there a lid on the rim?
  • Midstate01
Dakich has grown on me some. Very little, but some. But he's done like the last 6 buckeyes games. Way too much. He gets way too annoying. No real reason to even have a play by play guy with him because he never stops talking.

Scott, Williams and Thompson can all sit on the bench the rest of the season for all I care. I would rather lose with the underclassman than watch these seniors. They make me ill.
  • Mulva
On the bright side, only about 2 more months of this senior class.
  • Midstate01
The seniors are the reason they're so bad on the road. Just no leadership from them.
  • Midstate01
The amount of travels Iowa has got away with in just the last 2 minutes is incredible.
  • se-alum
Just give the ball to White and wait for the whistle. Solid strategy by Iowa.
  • The Answer
Aaron White should drive everytime he gets it because he either scores or gets a foul called no matter what
  • centralbucksfan
Thank goodness Russell showed up or this game would be absolutely ugly. He and Tate are the only bright spots to this team.
