  All I said was OSU could be a lot better than they are right now in basketball. If they don't want to be and respect Matta enough to let him continue coaching until he doesn't want to, fine. However, they could clearly be doing a lot better.
  
  Nobody really addressed the points I made though. 20 wins? That doesn't mean shit anymore. It would be different if with a recruiting drop off, came a bunch of really well-developed 3 and 4-star recruits who give OSU a very good, veteran team every 2-3 years. However, the couple "veteran" teams OSU has had recently have been utterly disappointing.

  I'd still love to hear something to counter the point other than "Matta is a nice guy, has some health problems and is the best guy available."

His recruiting has declined. His player development has disappeared. Right now, what more does he have to offer than being a decent high-major program.

  Not sure you prefaced anything. You said maybe he just isnt a bad coach. Youre continuing an argument on the preface of something you started. All we have done is disagree about him being a bad coach. People may want him gone or think he has earned the right to stay, thats irrelevant. His health has stunted the recruiting, which is the life of a college coach and success.

  Now you want to say OSU can do better, and all this. Why not start there? More people may agree with you. Instead youve twisted your argument to this, when in fact many of us may agree with this line of thinking. But, you started with a claim many disagree with, including myself. Then end the "argument" with claims many agree with, including myself...and wonder why the thread has died? There isnt much more to discuss at this point.

  Obviously it's a slow time with CBB, but my point was A) Matta isn't a very good coach, as evidenced by his declining teams and B) Ohio State can do better. The discussion then turned into "I'm hating and Kentucky wants a pat on the back?"

  I didn't respond because I was messing with you about Kentucky like I always do.. I wasn't being serious. Thus no need to actually respond. I'm not even sure what you wanted from your questions or why you brought them up.

  They, uh, beat Navy. That's about all that can be said. The returnees, except for Lyle, had good games. None of the new guys did much of anything to stand out. Well, Jackson was 4-4 at the line, which for Ohio State is pretty noteworthy...

  Marc Loving's regression continues--I can't remember the last player I've seen to have steadily declined in four years the way he has. Also, this team just isn't very good...tough to watch.

  If winning by a combined 18 points over two nobodies is what we're getting, I'm not sure that all the "improvement" and stuff they were talking about actually stuck.

  One reason why I will most likely continue to not watch them again this year. One of the Dispatch writers said it perfectly when he portrayed Loving as 'Aloof and lethargic'.

  I like Matta alot, but his time may be drawing to a close. If these are the best guys that he can recruit, he may need to be replaced. Wondering if that was the reason for bringing Chris Jent back? Coach in waiting?
  
  For this year, I'd play Thompson at the 4, Potter at the 4, Bates-Diop at the 3, Williams at the 2 and Jackson at the point. Lyle looks completely disinterested and nothing but selfish and, Loving is a turn over machine. Give the new guys some time now to see what they have and wait for another mediocre season....

  Something's going on with him, and wouldn't be at all surprised if he were to quit the team and transfer mid-season...not predicting he will, just wouldn't shock me.

  1. Team did look good in getting past Providence. Or, at least, better. Lyle finally had a good game and the duo of Thompson and Bell gave strong post minutes. Hopefully, Bates-Diop is back before long, as they don't have the depth to last too long without him, with actual good teams coming up on the horizon.
  
  2. Funderburk to be red-shirted. Not good for the depth, as I was hoping he could be a good bench contributor. Matta said he and his family are cool with this. Hopefully, that's true. After last year, another exodus would be a complete killer. Seems that the recruiting has been really suffering recently. Lyle was the only player in last year's class that looked better than MAC-level. And this year, Potter is the only freshman who's made any kind of impact (and he only played four minutes against Prov). Jackson, while not a freshman recruit has potential, but it looks like his PT is going to be directly determined by how well Lyle plays. And right now, the team's philosophy seems to be to go after lesser-tier guys who want to be Buckeyes instead of higher-tier guys who want to play and go pro. All good in theory, but it makes me nervous about the future when they're getting 3-stars with a few 4-stars, while all the elite players are going elsewhere. Puts the pressure on the coaches to get those guys to play above their ratings or the team will be stuck in 20-12 purgatory.

  Loving just has no emotion. In HS that was the year of Hayes/Loving/Kizer all in Toledo and the thing that jumped out about the other two is how much more intense they were than Marc
