I like some incoming freshmen but I just do not know what to fully expect stat wise and have been hesitant on a few. I like seeing the guys with established numbers. Anyone else sometimes feeling this?

Yeah. I have a few in mind, though, that I may try and pick up in the last couple of rounds. There are some gems, I think, to be had. As you allude to, though, when picking unproven new guys on the scene, there's a luck factor to it as well.

That's how I'm feeling too. I wanted to take Aaron Gordon 2 rounds ago I think but Goon took him before my pick, but they just worry me too much.

My team will be full of freshmen, but I think all of them are pretty predictable. When was the last time a top 2 player at their position didn't work out?

Can't speak for birddog, but I was speaking more to freshman ranked 15 or lower in their class, which are historically much harder to predict. But yeah, typically any freshman in the top ten will, more times than not, either live up or come close to living up to the hype. Not always, but most of the time.

This. Obviously I'm not worried about Parker, Wiggins, Gordon, etc. It's the lower ranked freshmen that are expected to have an impact but what that impact may be is the unknown.

After taking Embiid in the 2nd RD, I am pretty much resigned to 1 (or none) more freshman. I really dont want that unpredictability on my team. I would go so far as to say only the top 4 were really predictable, this year. Wiggins, Randle, Parker and Gordon.

Who honestly knows what Embiid, Selden, Vonleh, Harrison Twins, Johnson, etc are going to give you. Heck, some of them are on teams where they might not even get enough looks for this game, despite being top 40 players in CBK this year. Im not Sure Wiggins will even put up top 10 numbers, and he is the best player in college.

Yeah I'm in the boat of just staying away from freshmen. Im mostly trying to target guys who have 2 years of decent stats or they are juniors/seniors whose production has increased year to year and should increase or stay about the same this year.

Also I'm kinda glad I have ESPN Insider has really helped with looking into guys and teams in general.

I have been thinking. Why not just draft 13 rounds, and that 13th round guy be the guy that can fill in for suspensions and injuries? I know we would have to add some special criteria to go with it but just an idea to help limit adds/drops.

Maybe this is a terrible idea, I don't know lol

The thing with that is our "sub" rule is going to have to fit a position on your roster (so if a C goes down, you will need another C to move from UTIL or add a center) and must also have a lesser PPG (league points) than the guy who is subbed out. I'm not sure if people are also wanting to narrow this down to also having them be from the same conference or not.

With this criteria, it's difficult to draft a player, otherwise we would've just made it like 10 starting players and 2 bench spots. I set it up this way (everyone on your roster plays) to alleviate having to maintain roster changes.

Only problem with this idea is we don't know what position would go out. I mean it wouldn't matter much if it was a G/F but if a center goes out no one is probably taking one of them.

But maybe we do 2 more rounds and we take a G/F and a Center who are ours to use in case of injury suspension?

    I like your idea though.

I'd rather just fill in at this point. Same as before, I've been drafting based on it. I probably would've taken another g/f to have more flexibility and then drafted a 3rd center if I had known about this.

Yeah that's a good point. I guess it's something that can be discussed for next year as I'm sure most if not all of us will probably do this again.

I think ironman02, wildcats and swami -- although he's not here as much -- would have been good additions as well. Maybe they'll join next year. The draft was really fun. I'm kinda disappointed it's almost over. It's great fun doing all this research and really getting to know teams that you otherwise wouldn't this well.

Yeah I kinda surprised wildcats didn't do this. And I agree this draft was a lot of fun. I've really been slacking on my sports watching this year but maybe this will make me want to watch a lot more CBB then I was planning to.

I wish I could redraft. I didn't start making my list until 2 rounds ago and I missed out on some real good players that were still available earlier on.
  • Azubuike24
If we do fill-in, which is fair since we had that set up from the beginning, I don't think we should limit it to the same conference.

So, if your center goes down, you can't move a guy from UTIL to C (if you had a 3rd eligible center) and then pick up a guard. You will need to find another center with the specific criteria, but he doesn't have to be from the same conference.

Haha, that's how I feel. I just kind of winged it until round 4 or 5 I think then started to spend time looking at guys. Also really wish I hadn't gone with 3 guards in my first 3 picks because they seem to be the deepest position. Will just learn for next year.

Only need sportswizhurd and pick6 to post in the roster thread. Once done, it's only going to be a roster move thread going forward, and each person can edit their post for the correct scoring. Going to use this along with time stamped edits for each roster. Any roster moves need to be posted below in the thread.

Okay, so we're slated to start with games of November 8th, running through November 17th for week 1. Majority said $20 buy-ins and that's it, no additional for a pickup as we decided the subs had to be filling the same position and with a lower PPG total than the guy they are replacing. You also must wait until the start of the next week to make the sub, meaning if you choose to take a guy out, you can't swap him out until the next Monday.

I'd appreciate if everyone keep an eye on their scoring. I'm going to create a master sheet that quickly calculates points (in Excel), which should make it pretty easy to do with ESPN box scores. There's only 12 teams so if a few people keep the scores and everyone keeps their own, we should be fine.

All roster changes will be in the roster thread, where each member has a roster post. Please just edit this post to reflect a current roster, and post any changes as a new post in the thread. If someone could stick this to the top, it would be appreciated.

For buy-ins, everyone can Paypal the money to me at [email protected].

The only thing we haven't decided is the payout breakdown? Do we want to reward weekly winners, regular season champ and the top 3 finishers? Maybe something like $5/week (total $70), overall winner $100, runner-up $30, 3rd place $20, regular season winner $20? Let me know other options.
  • Laley23
I like that payout. I think we should definitely reward weekly winners for this, 5$ seems appropriate.

As for the player subs, you have it spot on. The only thing I will add is that you can announce you are adding a player for an injured player as soon as you need to (if you might be away from a computer for awhile or something). Since rosters arent being locked and arent being modified on a site, just us keeping track, it wont be an issue when he is added. We all know his points wont be counted unless your injured player missed the entire following week. I hope that all made sense lol

Im going to sticky all the relevant stuff as well. Draft will be unstickied when we are done.

    I don't think 3rd should get anything.

I'd give $40 to the regular season winner. Besting 14 weeks should trump going 1-1 over the final 3.

I disagree with that. 3/12 deserves their money back. Thats a good team. Its not like we are giving 3rd money back in an 8 team league. 3rd out of 12 is pretty damn good drafting.

    Money sent.

Az, I forgot to sign off as reclegend now that I think of it, but I did write Go Duke! in the email. Haha.

Pretty pumped I will be getting 1 of the wild cards it had pegged in my top 6 at the start in the last round!!!
