Can Terrelle Pryor have a "Vince Young" type performance in the Rose Bowl?

  There been much comparison between the two ever since Pryor stepped on the OSU campus. Even their sophomore stats are very similar. Like Pryor, Young was also criticized much early on in his career. But many pointed to his game against Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl as the turning point in his career. He rushed for 192 yards, passed for 180, with 5 overall touchdowns. The success carried over to the next season as Texas won the national championship and Young finished second in the Heisman. Can the same happen to Pryor?

  Yes it's possible, he's got the skills to do it. But Tressel's offense will not allow it to happen. Tressel's offense is often one dimensional. Whether it be Pass Heavy like against Purdue, or Run Heavy, like everyone after purdue, Pryor's stats will lean towards however Coach calls the game.

  125 rushing, 150 passing 3 total TD's.

  Wont happen. May pass for 100 or so, but won't come close to 192 on the ground.... Tress's gameplan won't allow it. They are afraid to let him play because they are afraid he'll make the big mistake

  Yes, he's probably one of the greatest players to ever play QB when he should be a WR.

  In one word, no. I don't see it happening. Pryor will be doing mostly handoffs and short 5-7 yard passes. The coaches don't trust him to do much else.
  
  The big yardage plays will be broken plays that Pryor scrambles in.

  I think Pryor plays well, but his numbers will be a bit harnessed by Tressel's offense ... my guess, something like 135 passing yards, 85 rushing yards, 2 total TDs.

  I look for him to have a game similiar to his performance against PSU. A quiet 3 TD's while the running game dictates the offense. With that being said, no, I don't think is performance will be as brilliant as VY's against USC. But anything is possible, I guess.

  Just waiting to see how the game progreses and whether the staff adapts. If the Bucks are going to town on the ground I don't see JT opening up a lot as there won't be reason to. Should the ground game be ineffective then we'll see.

  Of course anything is possible, but based on what we've seen from him this season, there is no reason to think it will happen.
  
  When Tressel wanted him to be the focal point of the offense, the offense struggled. When he turned Pryor into a game management, mistake free QB, OSU started playing much better. That tells the tale.

  He did have a bum ankle for the last four games so any game management/leadership criticism should be tempered by that fact, at least by anyone reasonable enough to understand that.

  I doubt it. I have absolutely no faith in his passing. As long as he doesn't make the big mistakes, the Bucks have a chance.

  No way in Hell he can have a Vince Young type day. He'll be asked to not do anything stupid on offense, and hopefully the D will keep them in the game late. Pryor hasn't performed real well (getting a W) against top flight competition, and has shown the ability to make some horrible reads and throws. Just don't lose the game is what JT and the staff will be telling him.

  But just remember that the same was being said about Vince before his first Rose Bowl game. Pryor passing numbers may be a bit better than Young's at this point in their careers

  Terrelle Pryor regular season sophomore stats - 1668 yards passing, 15 touchdown passes, 9 interceptions, 146 QB rating.
  
  Plus Young had a extra year of experience due to Redshirting. Pryor did not Redshirt. I do agree though that Tressel's offensive philosophy may prohibit Pryor to equal the same kind of Rose Bowl game success. It should be interesting to see what happens.

  The Vince Young comparisons are not fair to Pryor. That's not him. Sure they are both big, black, athletic QB's; but that doesn't mean they will have the same on the field success.
  
  I'm not certain of Young's sophomore season, but Pryor only put up the statistics against the bad teams on OSU's schedule. He didn't really do much against USC, Penn State, Purdue or Iowa.
  
  There is no doubting that he has tons of potential, but let's base our expectations on reality. The reality is that Pryor has been an average QB this season and there is no reason to think that he will have a dominant performance.

  But against bowl eligible Big 12 teams his passing went:
  
  8/23 86 yards against 0 TD 0 INT against Oklahoma
  10/15 142 yards 1 TD 0 INT against Texas Tech
  8/15 71 yards 0 TD 2 INT against Colorado
  18/21 278 yards 1 TD 2 INT against Oklahoma State
  12/18 131 yards 0 TD 0 INT against Texas A+M
  
  56/92 (60.8%) 727 yards (141 ypg) 2 TD 4 INT
  
  And again, all of those teams outside of Oklahoma lost 4-5 games. It was a weak, weak schedule. But he was not a very good passer at all his sophomore year. Even against Michigan his passing wasn't great. He tore them up running the ball.

  CORRECTION....That was Vince Young's REDSHIRT Sophomore season, his THIRD YEAR at Texas.
