I miss the Old Big East. Championship Week has sucked in comparison to what it used to be. Wednesday was almost always jam packed with great games all day between basketball powers in the Big East. All the action this year doesn't really start until Thursday.

By far one of the most dull Championship Weeks in memory. I mean, things will really being to pick up tomorrow and this weekend, but the Big East always made the early week exciting. Fuck change and the assholes who insist upon it.

Georgetown's bubble was presumably already popped, but a loss to DePaul in the first round of the Big East Tournament ensures Johnny T III will be coaching his dad's team in the NIT. How does the sharp left turn the program you built just took feel, Big John?

    NCAA Second Round
    NIT First Round
    NCAA First Round
    NCAA Second Round
    NCAA Second Round
    NIT ?

The reason I am so anti-JTIII is that I have always admired the Georgetown program and believe it should be a national power again. There used to be a Hoya fan from the Lima area on this site. Wish he were here to offer his thoughts.

Lol, your hatred for JTIII is awesome.

Also, I saw on a few different KU boards that a lot of MSU people believe Tom Izzo will retire at the end of these NCAA's. Said that he's killing himself over getting that very desirable second NCAA title, and that the pressure is wearing down on him (hence his recent freak outs on the sidelines--like in the OSU game). Said that he is normally a very nice and respectable guy to his staff, and that this year he's been very "different"

Obviously, just message board talk..but very interesting to think about this being the last time we see Izzo on the sidelines in college bball.

I could see him making the jump to the League before flat out retiring.

That'd be crazy. This has to have been as frustrating of a season as he's ever had, though. On paper, he has a team that's as good as anyone out there (not necessarily the phenom young athletes that some have, but a veteran core of really good to great college players), but they've just been decimated by injuries to the point where I think the vibe's gone from "they'll be real good when they're all healthy together" to "they could have been real good if they all could have been healthy together".

Saw Izzo the other nite in Columbus watching a recruit. He looked very relaxed, was posing for pics with people. He was also in area a few weeks ago to see same incoming player. I highly doubt if he had made his mind up, that he would be doing all these extra trips for a kid that is already signed with MSU.
This is one of his most talented teams. And they have been very inconsistant as well as very injury prone. 15 different starting lineups this year. ANY coach would be very frustrated with all of that.

I'm just relaying the info, not trying to say he is retiring.

But just because he snaps some pictures with recruits in Columbus and "looked happy" doesn't mean he's not thinking of leaving msu.

Who was he looking at in Columbus?

    Javon Bess from Gahanna.

So far, 'Nova is not looking like they want to get that final #1 seed. Losing 28-15 in the first half to Seton Hall.

I mean, at what juncture is "Dad coached team" not convincing enough an argument to justify keeping Little John around as CEO of one of college basketball's most historically great programs? Since making a run to the Final Four in 2007, Georgetown has not advanced beyond the second round of the NCAA tournament.

That would certainly make for an interesting off-season and set the coaching carousel in full motion. After watching this season unfold, I could definitely buy this as a possibility. This year has to rank right up there as one of Izzo's most disappointing ever in relation to expectations. This MSU team just never got better or really built upon last year's Sweet 16 run, despite basically everyone returning. That coupled with some big recruiting misses (e.g. Jabari Parker) and Izzo is left to contemplate if he'll ever get the Spartans back to the pinnacle of the sport.

Good news for Wisconsin and Syracuse/Duke. Who gets it if those teams falter early and don't reach their conference title games? A Big XII Tournament champion Kansas? An AAC champion Cincinnati or Louisville?

    What a mess.

FIFY. Don't give in to the NCAA calling the first round the "Second Round". Tuesday and Wednesday are play-in games, not the First Round. :)

Also, they have lost to a double digit seed their last 5 tournament appearances.

Haha, believe me, I have never and will never give in to that fake second round bullshit. It was a typo as I was typing fast while looking at his Wikipedia page lol.

On top of it all, it's not like Georgetown hasn't had at least Sweet 16 level talent. As you allude to, the Hoyas have entered the Field of 64 twice as a (2) seed and twice as a (3) seed in the five NCAA Tournament appearances that have ended in first or second round exits. The man is a pathetic coach and deserves an award for milking this job for all it's worth as long as he has.

Precisely. The games on Tuesday and Wednesday can be called the FIRST FOUR or the PLAY-IN GAMES. Or if you want to use the terminology used in high school wrestling when there are more competitors than can naturally fit into a bracket, call them the RAT-TAIL games.

But it's not the first round. Fuck that shit.

Apparently 'Nova decided to show up in the second half. Just checked the score again and they're up by 3.
  • Heretic
And now Seton Hall is back up by 5. And here I am in the fucking office only being able to follow this stuff online.

Oh well, I have tomorrow off and I have next Thursday and Friday off. I can bear this cross. Even if it is the greatest injustice anyone anywhere has ever endured at any time.

EDIT: And while I typed this post, 'Nova tied things up again.

Hmm, lets see...believe/relay was some dork on a message board is saying...or see someone in person, showing up in another state for an already signed player, enjoying himself with the crowd. Ya...you are such a tool.
  • Heretic
And Seton Hall just beat 'Nova 64-63. That probably ends their dream of being a #1 unless all the conference tournaments are pure carnage.
  • reclegend22
Nova is done. Losing to the last-place seed in their conference tournament seals it IMO, especially considering they had only one really good win to stand on as it was. The Pirates' resume was incredibly weak for a potential number one seed.

I think the last number one is now up to Wisconsin, Syracuse, Duke, Michigan, Cincinnati, Louisville or maybe even Creighton or Kansas. It's gonna be a wild ride this weekend.

    Multiple people on message forums*

You certainly don't have to believe it but I definitely didn't hear your cute little story and think, "hmm nevermind he is def gonna be back at msu next year."
  • wildcats20
Final 1 seed will come down to Kansas, UM or Wisky, and the winner of the ACCT.

That doesn't really narrow it down, but Nova is now out of the running.
